MNewton the use of the shoulder is a shoulder charge. Please don't try to blur the facts. He hit Feki at speed leading with the shoulder. Have a look at the replay it is clear as day. If the NRLol (gotta love that one) wanted to eliminate that type of tackle then they just blew the perfect opportunity. Just watch next year shoulder "collisions" galore.

Except that they will change the rule again over the off season now that Billy gets his fairytale ending and Churchill medal.

Big difference between a shoulder CHARGE and shoulder COLLISION.

If the rules change next year, for eg including the term collision it will mean the exercise was a crock...
If it wasn't a crock, there'll be no need for change, with the verdict reached according to the rules...
Do you think there'll be a rule change or adjustment as the NRLol would most likely promote it?

For what it's worth, the judiciary made it clear it was never about a shoulder charge. It was about careless dangerous contact, accidental or otherwise.
When I saw it again on replay tonight it looked like it was a combination of self preservation, leading with the elbow & forearm & trying to smash the player over the sideline without using the hands & without trying to wrap up the ball. The clip can be misleading though, easier to just call it a shoulder charge. :)

Not that it's relevant, it reminds me of what happened to John Singleton many years ago. If memory serves me, he was driving from Newcastle to Sydney when pulled over by a highway patrol car & charged with speeding. Singo contested it in court on the grounds that there's no such offense or charge as speeding. The prosecution were unable to prove otherwise & it was dismissed. If they'd written something like driving at 125 in an 80 zone, he would've been prosecuted.

BN since when was the charge altered. The referee penalised slater for a shoulder charge and that is how it should have been presented.

Look guys, the reason for the 40min deliberation is because the NRL took Billy into a private room and told him he'll be let off on the proviso that he does the exact same tackle in the GF.

The NRL will then charge him and he'll fail to beat the next charge due to a slight reclassification of the rule and he will he suspended. No worries for Billy as he retires anyway, but the NRL ends up with a precedent case for 2019 and beyond.

Win-win for everyone.

And people think Trump is not protected.......
Even Billy can have rules changed for him and he's not even president.....

I didn't watch the match, so I didn't know what the ref did at the time. I only saw it briefly on the news the other day, then a replay again tonight.
The definition of what they were all there for was a quote tonight from the head hearing guy which was relayed by the media.

In all honesty though, I would be very happy if the NRL adopted an allowance to use the shoulder when defending a try scoring play.

Whether it be on the wing or under the posts.

The game is a contact sport. It's not legal to hit a guy on the head, but why should babies be thrown out with the bath water? Why should a legal shoulder to another players torso be penalised.

Car races and motorbike races feature lots of crashes that result in minor or major injuries. You dont see them ban speeding now do you?

It's unfortunate for all concerned that it didn't happen mid-year. The timing has put a bad spin on things. They could've had the best of both worlds, he could of had his GF & they could've made an example of it to discourage it happening again or often at least. But yeah, it was about careless without intent, not a deliberate shoulder charge.
