+x+xSo Broncos release Lodge and will pay 1M of his contract for next 2.5 years to Warriors. They did this to free up money for Capewell. I reckon we need to do the same with Flanagan. It's clear to me he is behind Burton, Averillo, Wakeham and even Lewis. He is probably the highest paid of all those. Club should farm him around and pay up to half his contract out. Use the money for hooker or forward FMD... so now you’re a Broncos supporter in addition to roosters, saints, Parra and Melbourne???... No. I'm a supporter of good decisions. It's all relative Dman.... If the whole league is shit, we just have to be slightly better than shit to be ahead of the pack. But if the whole league is making smart, astute decisions with their roster and improving themselves, we cant judge ourselves on being better than what we were last year. We need to be better than the rest of the league. It's like improving 10% on last years 15th place. It's useless if everyone else improves 20%

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xI dont understand. I thought we had a war chest. I thought we had a heap of players coming to end of their contracts (at least 8 or 10) at years end. We have 3 known recruits (JAC, Burton and Naden) who will all be in the top 30. By my count, we would need to either resign existing players to fulfill the top 30 commitments, recruit new guys or promote from lower grades. I can understand the top 30 but I would be livid if our current squad is even at 75% of the 9Million cap. If its beyond that I want a complete overhaul of the board. NOW. Don’t do your sums based on who we have off contract, do them based on who we have on contract. For ‘22 we have in the outside backs contracted on NRL money, Allen, JAC, Cotric, Naden, so there’s four of five spots with NRL money spent on them. Complimenting them we have Sloop and Alomoti, one of if not both we’d be hoping becomes a permanent NRL player and as such will have to be upgraded come the end of ‘22. Ockunbar whom I’m expecting we’ll keep, and there’s Avo who might be tried at FB, if not we’re also over flowing in the halves. Burton is on a two year deal with an option in his favour, so I would guess and I bet I’m right he’s open to offers come Nov ‘22 and seeing as we’re obviously under- paying him before he even walks in the door, we got to have room to upgrade him, probably by near double, for ‘23 and might even have to upgrade him as soon as he walks in the door for goodwill. Remember we’re getting him for… $400k I think, somebody’s gonna be offering him $800k plus for ‘24 ( in Nov ‘22) so we gotta be ready for that. And remember Nicks Hynes comes at 3 years (and that’s important, considering who we have to upgrade, (Burton, one or both of Sloop and Alomoti) at $600k p.a to enter the bidding. Do your sums man, The Board’s done theirs. Dude..... i HAVE done my sums and unless you're telling me we have 4 players on over 1M dollars, i cannot for the life of me and my dead grandmother figure out where the fekk our SC money is being spent?????? Can you? Like i have said many many times before.... prior to the downgrade in SC last year, it was i think around 9M for 30 players with min wage of 100k That's an average of 300k for every fekking top 30 player. If we assume at least 5 of them are on the 100k mark, 5 are on the 200k mark, thats 10 players on no more than 1.5M cap. If you then consider another 8 or so players on 250k and lets say another 8 are on the average of 300k - that's another 4.4M. This leaves 4 players to share 3.1M with an average of 775k. Now...... who the hell are we paying that kind of $$$ to? Which 4 players you reckon? I can tell you who i think is on the highest....... Jacko, Hoppa, JAC and Cotric. The question is...... would you pay ANY of them that much? I would pay it to JAC as we had to pay premium for him. I can understand we might have to pay it to Burton as an upgrade but we can give him that upgrade in 2023 after we release Stimson. Its not rocket science man. Its simple math. The only time it becomes ridiculous is when you consider stupid re-signings have taken place on players who dont deserve that kind of money. Can i just add that i reckon we would be one of the clubs with a more "normalised" distribution of SC, meaning we probably spread the vast majority of it on bulk of top 30 players, meanwhile most other clubs spend probably 80% on it on their top 17 players and only 20% on the remaining 13..... We need to change this. We spend too much on reserve graders because they are in and out of the first grade team because the first graders arent much better than the reserve graders. We have been unwinding previous front loaded deals, so we are running on a significantly reduced real cap. Some of our signings particularly in the Pay era were from the bargin bin. But we also paid overs for DWZ. Next season we are closer to a full cap than we have been for 2-3 seasons. I would expect a corresponding lift in the quality of our squad. Players like Britt and Stimson may be replaced with better options. But what this also means is some of the cleanout doesn't free up as much as we imagine. Our squad should start to look similar to the other squads. You must mean backloading. If we had front loaded them, our players would be on 100k each! Yeah backloaded and play for other clubs. With Flanno we need to find a club that wants him. Mid--season after a few injuries is the best chance. No I mean front loading.... We have a bunch of players that don’t deserve big coin... and some that do.... Pay the players not worth big bucks what they’re worth (not overs) then front load a bloke on $600K a year with $700K this year... then he’s only $500K out of the cap next year... Thank you. At last someone that understands the logic and proper management of it.

Not a massive signing, but the Titans signing Isaac Liu from the Roosters surely means Herman Ese Ese is on his way out of that club.
He was someone we were linked with in the past, if a deal with Titans chipping in could be reached, I reckon he’d be a good buy especially coming off the bench.

His career hasn't kicked on as expected, perhaps a better option than Odgen. It would be great if we could get Odgen fitter and improve his defence, the potential is there, but he doesn't seem to be able to step up, Herman isn't that different. Maybe a change of scene might work for both. I recon seafood is a better player now than his last NRL stint, more focused and professional, fewer dumb errors. I was hoping Atoni and Odgen might learn from his example. You only get one shot at an NRL career, I bet the time passes quickly, before players know it they are retired or relagated to reserve grade for the rest of their career. Attitude and hunger are a big part of getting it right. The coach always notices guys not putting in 100% in defence, a player has to be fit enough to aim up.

You get a couple especially at bottom clubs like us, Broncos, Tigers etc. Some even get several chances and it's just desperation from clubs that keep giving them a go. The top clubs are more ruthless and tend to have stable rosters so your chances to make it and stay in the 1st grade team are certainly limited. Look at Flano at the Roosters. Was let go at drop offs hat, yet for us he is in and out of the team. Wont get many more chances if he doesnt make a fist of it till Wakeham returns.....

Yes, but years tick by when you don't take chances. Young players get the benefit of the doubt, as a player gets older and has a track record of failure they really have to earn their opportunity. With the current speed of the game, the fitness demands are high. More interchanges might help, but some players will not be able to get fit enough, it is hard work.

+x+xSome of this discussion is not making a lot of sense. Let's say Baz has a FB in mind for next year, then how are we going to sign a backup FB when there is hardly enough decent quality FBs for each team to even have one each. Plus all the talk of "why didn't we go for Hynes" it wasn't that long ago that everyone was saying that behind the lack of forward power we have now that JAC, Burton and Naden will look ordinary. We need a quality hooker and at least one quality prop. Fvck the FB position, fvck the backline, with a decent forward pack the backs will sort themselves out Its about long term plan ODF not short term. If we focus only on forwards and hookers, in a couple of years when we realise we are desperate for a top line young fullback, there will be non available or you'll pay over 1M. Nicko Hynes was a lost opportunity at a value price. Im not discounting the need for a good hooker or prop, our team needs more than 1 area of improvement. But you have to take the opportunities when they present and not bury your head in the sand and then ask why there is no opportunity when you want it. Nico Hynes is over rated. It would surprise me if he looks even half as good at Cronulla than what he is now. If Avo played in the Melbourne side he would be a superstar. He should be developed into our fullback if we don’t have somebody better coming through.

I recon Teddy was great in SOO2, he put in a lot of work.
I think that might have taken a lot out of him, that is one reason why the Chooks might not have been able to go with the Storm.
In term of fitness in the modern game, the hooker and fullback have to be 2 of the fittest players in the side and heavily involved in a lot of the play.
That is my only reservation about JAC, will he be fit enough and involved enough?
Meaney was better than DWZ and Hoppa, but a real step down from the levels of involvement Teddy has.
Of our hookers JMK isn't bad, but a more energetic, physically aggressive or smart hooker would add to our squad. Brains and energy would be good, but I'll settle for either one.

+x+x+xSome of this discussion is not making a lot of sense. Good player, NRL standard but not a superstar. I recon Avo, Burton and JAC are all better players. Avo would be a good fullback, he is also a good half. We really need JAC to fire, he is a critical signing for us at a critical time. Avo should be the first player signed for the next 10 years, Topine is also a keeper. We have some good young players, they should be the priority.

Hynes is now an established top player. He has added a new dimension to the Storm. I'd say he is easily pick of the bunch. Not discounting the rest. It would have been real good to get a livewire centre like Olam or Staggs or someone similar. It has as massive effect on how well JAC plays. Hopefully Schoup can gain confidence to be that kind of player. Allen I'm afraid is a solid player but wont set the world on fire or create enough for JAC if he's on the wing.

Yesterday I had a weird conversation with a work collegue who is a mad keen storm supporter. He said to me "didn't you blokes (Dogs) sign Brody Croft?". I didn't even know if he was available. Has anyone heard any rumours?
