Just read this article on the SMH website.  Can't help but think something like the Wallabies indigenous kit for the Socceroos would be awesome.

I'd definitely buy one.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/genia-wants-wallabies-to-wear-indigenous-jerseys-in-every-test-20180813-p4zx7s.html

Genia wants Wallabies to wear indigenous jerseys in every Test

Will Genia has urged Rugby Australia to consider putting the Wallabies in their indigenous jersey for every Test match.

As debate swirls in New Zealand over the modern value of the haka, the veteran Test halfback revealed the indigenous jersey had fast become the Wallabies' own source of team and cultural expression and said he wanted to play in it every day.

Would be an interesting design no doubt and we've had indigenous players for the national team.

I would've thought some sort of fijian/tongan/samoan indigenous jersey would be more suitable for the wallabies

but yeah, just what we need. More tokenism. That'll fix the serious issues on the ground in those communities.

Old school galatasary tracksuits in red, yellow and black looked awesome and i always thought they’d make a great indigenous kit (or even aus would be much better with those colors)

Yeah let’s divide the national team into separate tribes - those who get recognised by a special jersey and the others - the second-class whities. Great idea!

Whats the point? They will only be accused on culttural approriation. Might as well throw in an aboriginal war dance, that will really get the lefties excited.

So much angst about a bloody kit design.

Politics asides I just thought it was a good looking design.

Obviously a hit with the punters.  The article said Adidas had to do a second run.

Look at belgiums kit sthrought the years to see the possibilities or using aboriginal colours. Way better than the shite we usually get dished up. We;ve probably had 3 good kits in the last 30 years

It's been interesting watching you develop as a forum user down the years.

From a shy innocent pre-teen kit nerd who knew nothing about football you have really blossomed wonderfully into a chem trail breathing, Putin loving, flat earth fake news neo-con kit nerd who knows nothing about football.

Congrats

If you're reaching that far for the definition of "political" then even having a single colour in the kit would be outlawed.

Any slogan, statement or image which falls into any of these categories is not permitted.
Whilst ‘religious’ and ‘personal’ are relatively easily defined, ‘political’ is less clear but slogans, statements or images related to the following are not permitted:

  • any person(s), living or dead (unless part of the official competition name)
  • any local, regional, national or international political party/organisation/
  • group, etc.
  • any local, regional or national government or any of its departments, offices or functions
  • any organisation which is discriminatory
  • any organisation whose aims/actions are likely to offend a notable number of people
  • any specific political act/event

So having a few extra colours from the aboriginal flag somewhere on the jersey falls into which of these exactly?

I don't even WANT our kit to change but some of those comments blew my mind and actually makes me really sad. Especially when it's young people.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but the Indigenous community of this country is as large and diverse as they come - would we be able to come to a consensus on a national design that wouldn't upset any of the Indigenous groups?

I honestly don't know what's happened to society but then I realise it's probably that these people always were there scuttling around and the internet's just given them the cowardly safe space pussy anonymity they need to express themselves and feel good about their own shitty little lives.

Some of us actually believe in racial equality and do not feel that any one race should be celebrated more than any other (Yes, next time I will write [SARC] in big letters after my comment about 'second class whities' just so you understand).
Then there are those who think we should celebrate a particular race either because:
1. They think said race is 'better' and more deserving, or
2. They think said race is 'worse/inferior/a victim' (and therefore should be given some sort of a gee up)
A logical person would see that either of those motives is inherently racist, i.e. treating people differently solely because of their race is the very definition of racism.
To me Jade North was just another Brisbane and Australian champion. If his race is what's important to you - that's your problem not mine.

Your wealth in this country comes from years of exploitation and destruction of Aboriginals. These "handouts" don't come close to helping them reach equal footing with the rest of the country.

"The flag was designed by Harold Thomas, a Luritja man of Central Australia, and was first flown on National Aboriginal Day in Adelaide in 1971. Gary Foley, a Gumbaynggirr man of north-east New South Wales and an Aboriginal Rights activist, took the flag to the East Coast where it was promoted in Sydney and Melbourne. In 1972 the flag became more prolific when it was chosen as the official flag for the Aboriginal Embassy in front of Parliament House in Canberra."
Yeah - there's nothing political about the Aboriginal Embassy, eh?

The fact all it takes is for someone to suggest a tip of the hat to history in a colour scheme on a sports jersey to bring out comments about feet kissing and gravy trains is pretty bloody piss weak fragile snowflake mummy didn't love me funny.

Yep, it's shameful the way we overran their cities, acquired their mines, and exploited everything else that they'd achieved in the 40,000 years they'd been here.
If Cook hadn't have landed here, imagine how much better their lives would have been.

By the way - where does "your wealth" come from?

Countered with an even more original comment...

I don't think wondering what happened in society or in someone's life to make them so angry at such a mild suggestion and whether it's the internet age that has bred such pseudo courage of ones own convictions is necessarily a personal insult unless you see something in the comments that rings true.

I did insult that one idiot personally though and I don't feel bad. There is nothing to "counter" with a comment like his as there is no thought or intellect behind it.
