+x+xAm I missing something? Doesn't "the grassroots" pay a massive subsidy to the FFA through registration and academy and other fees just to keep the FFA in the manner to which they are accustomed. How will the A League being separated into a new Commission/corporate entity cost us more? Massive subsidies my arse. Have a look at the registration breakdown. It's fuck all. Having said that he had to go. BUT grassroots needs to be protected here. The worst result would be the top 1% of participants stripping out 90% of the money in the game. The contribution to FFA revenue by the players across the country totals about $10m and after having been frozen for half a dozen years is going up to about $13m this year but as you say its a very small part of what players pay to register for their clubs. Up until 2012 it helped subsidise FFA operations, including the A-League, but since the TV deals of 2012 and 2017 the FFA has been able to progressively redistribute it across the State Feds on a needs basis. I agree that the real grassroots needs protection, in fact one of the reasons that Crawford recommended an independent board was to do just that after decades of mismanagement by previous administrations where the emphasis was on the elite arm of the game. In my view the independence of the board must stay and I think that the CRWG proposal does not change that independence. At issue is the minimum $15m pa (some say more than double that) the FFA currently retain from A-League generated revenue that helps the FFA balance the books. Hopefully we won't see the professional part of the game bankrupt the rest of the game by its demands for ownership of the professional game and the funds it generates. To me that would be the worst outcome possible. The progress over the last 13 years in seeing the game grow in professionalism, revenue and participation has been pleasing to an old bloke like me who despaired of ever seeing the game as healthy as it is now and I hope that whoever heads up the new board and whoever is voted on to that board stand firm on the need for the game to be governed for the benefit of the whole game and that the members of the FFA insist that be the case.

There was never going to be a scenario in which Lowy could keep his position.
- New congress gets approved, majority vote for new leadership
- New congress gets voted down, FIFA install normalisation, Lowy gone
- New congress gets voted down, FIFA suspend Australia, Lowy couldn't possible stick around after that
He was always out the door, better for him to walk now and retain at least a small amount of dignity rather than being booted out the door in a few months.

If the A-League was truly independent of the FFA (which is what Crawford said and I think FIFA requires) all the money generated by that WOULD eventually filter down the line. This assumes a 2nd Div and then P&R. The FFA could then get on with actually running the SPORT and not just worrying about it's cash-cow A-League 90% of the time. It's been a slow burn, but it is finally happening (kicking out the board etc) For better or worse, I think the game in Australia deserves to see where it can be taken now. It has paid its dues. True I imagine an independent A League will simply mean money into the A League is for the A League. There will even be an inevitable kickback of about 10% to support the rest of the game. The FFA, which includes grassroots, will thrive from this kickback and its own commercial partners, sponsors, and TV deal for the Socceroos The grassroots suffers because there is one organisation that supports both. We see futsal scrapped for 12 months and Cahill given $500k from the same budget Lowy is walking away from the problems he created I'm not excited about this news because nothing is going to change until we get away from this "Australian way" mindset. It doesnt matter who is captaining the sinking ship

The big issue still is whether the CRWG proposals will be passed.Lowy will still be able to cause chaos before he retires.
It would be diabolical if he burnt the house down and then said sayonara,leaving us vanquished by FIFA.
Having said that his actions suggest he is not going to be reelected anyway.So with him no longer going to be there ,the recalcitrant federations will be left unprotected if they veto the vote.
So i am now optimistic we will get a new congress.
