from what I understand lighting at the stadium isnt good enough for fox broadcast, and WU didnt want to fork out to pay for lighting fix. Pretty sure Peacock mentioned this in a fox sports podcast

They upgraded the lighting at Somers st and broadcast facilities before hosting yet ANOTHER (not rigged at all) South vs Knights FFA qualifier last year or 2019.. FOXTEL seemed happy to broadcast their round of 32 game against Adelaide a few weeks later?
I heard from one of the Knights boys  is that the terms Knights asked for, Horvat being a favourite son and all, where very reasonable, weekly rental was cheaper than GMHBA, and all they asked for in return was terracing on the quarry hill side and paving over of the carport..... maybe $3 -400 k.... worth... not sure why it wasn't agreed to but I heard that they also wanted to rebrand the stadium and put WU crap up everywhere and they were told to go and get f#cked.

Spending 300-400k is a fairly big outlay, but hey we all know that playing at GMHBA was going to be a soulless money pit too.

I have to say though, they tried very hard to make Geelong work but it was always going to be a challenge. They just seem lost to what to do, with too many places they are focusing on and not connecting in any.

I don't know about the actual numbers mate, just "terrace talk" I guess really.
I know everyone is sick of my constantly ragging on these clowns but seriously.... I could see this coming a mile away. Almost 3 years now since the announcement of the granting of their franchise license and ....... NOTHING!!!!! They are not lost with what to do, they are just bidding their time until the property market for low cost estate housing to newly arrived migrants turn (no migration into Australia for 2 years now) so that they can sell a few house and land packages to fund the infrastructure around their estate which local government is reluctant to build for them. Stadium/football team is SOOOO far in the future it may as well be a myth.
Team 11 would have been playing at Casey Fields, with temporary seating probably, and their government funded Dandenong stadium would be nearing construction.......
Is there NO accountability from FFA on this decision? Is Soccer in Australia NOT government funded to any degree and a corrupt bidding process which (allegedly) involved bribes doesn't warrant a commission inquiry? Don't you fans of other Aleague clubs demand answers as to why your own competition is being devalued so badly?
One day I hope some of you realize that the ethnic clubs are NOT what is holding soccer in Australia back ...... Hope its not too late by then.

I can see WU amalgamating with another club because they're Chinese faction of backers have abandoned them.

Why was my comment deleted mods?

All I said was that maybe they should merge with Cockburn FC in WA instead of Joondalup? Serious question?

Didn't they put their branding on the ground?  Only time I know its a Georgies home ground is when georgies play.

Ballarat is about half the size of Geelong isn't it?
And Geelong much closer to Tarneit.

Population wise, Geelong has about 2.5 times the population of Ballarat. Geelong is approx 40-50 Min drive from Tarneit. Ballarat is approx 75-85min drive from Tarneit.

The only plus is not as strong competition in the market
, as Geelong is dominated by the AFL, whereas Ballarat only has a couple of matches by the Western Bulldogs each season.

WU should really just play their matches at the football specific venue in Ballarat instead of the AFL ground, and the rest of the games at Somers Street if they can. Forget this Tasmanian idea, and just focus on a couple of markets to build some continuity.

The new stadium is in the never, never so nice point expecting much on that one.

I would have thought Geelong has higher level football representation than Ballarat does.

Agree, but Geelong doesn’t have a suitable venue (makes a mokery of the FFA saying that it had a high quality venue at GMHBA until they built the new stadium).

As I’ve said before, WU deked to put in a lot of effort to make Geelong work, and with a more appropriately sized stadium it likely would have been a better outcome. I do feel for the Geelong fans that did jump on board only for WU to jump off far sooner than expected.

Some Geelong wu fans feel betrayed.  This club reminds me of heart in the early days.  So much promise with little to show for it

Betrayed?? They never embraced them when WU was bending over backwards for them. There would be a exception for a tiny faction of supporters ofcourse. It's an Afl city, there's no support for them even if they were called Geelong Kittens.

There is a small band of wu supporters down there.  Or was .  Geelong has more mv fans down there . Wu have been horrid . They have school clinics down in Geelong but they have embraced them. I posted once why they didn't have clinics down in Wyndham? And they deleted it and had one in a local school..

They were between a rock and a hard place. If they were Geelong-based they needed to align with the cats somehow. Since Geelong wasn't an option it really did set them backwards.

They seemed to try to be something for everyone.

When your “heartland” is Wyndham and you’re trying to rope in people 70km south west, 100km west, train 20km north, claim to represent everyone from the Westgate bridge and westwards.... then not actually having a home ground anywhere... for a few years(Atleast)
well I think it’s pretty obvious it’s  gonna be a battle to have a true community that you’re targeting and get rusted on supporters.

You'll never appease everyone and having a home everywhere doesn't help. I get why Geelong people didn't buy in - they were never Geelong. Wyndham people I assume haven't brought in as they aren't there yet.

As most people have said until they settle down they will struggle to win hearts and minds. Even Knights Stadium isn't really close to what will eventually be their home. I get why they haven't setup in Wyndham now (there isn't any suitable venues available).

I don't know what the answer is. Maybe temporary stands? Again - where? It'd be interesting to know if the United bid team asked to be first in or come in after Macarthur as if they came in second they may have had a bit more support and at least some chance of finding a temporary home prior to the stadium going up.

They remind me of hearts early days.

Tend to agree that Heart seemed to have a very confusing start, as they kept talking for up a Casey base in the South-East and then suddenly set up at Bundoora, in the north, but still not trying to represent a specific area.

It also played matches in Albury and Morwell, and even though I became a fan at the start, I can see why many were confused by what the club represented.

Strange how they now eventually will end up in the South-East, over a decade later. The thing is though that the only way I see the paying off is by building a stadium out in that region.

What a great idea! With Edith Cowan University up there too, they could call the team ECU Joondalup. Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?

Maybe with their millions ready to invest in a football club they could have bought land in Geelong (or even partnered up with an existing council ground/club to improve an existing soccer complex) and build the facilities they based their bid and acceptance on??
Apart from the non existent housing development and the sweetheart deal the council of Whyndham have given them on the land to build low cost medium density dogbox housing what else about this group of "developers" makes people believe the "club" is anything more than a front for a real estate deal?

Maybe with their millions ready to invest in a football club they could have bought land in Geelong (or even partnered up with an existing council ground/club to improve an existing soccer complex) and build the facilities they based their bid and acceptance on??
Apart from the non existent housing development and the sweetheart deal the council of Whyndham have given them on the land to build low cost medium density dogbox housing what else about this group of "developers" makes people believe the "club" is anything more than a front for a real estate deal?

I'm not fussed if they do have a revenue stream outside of soccer via a housing development. If anything, I'm probably happy that they do have that outside revenue stream to back the soccer club so they aren't scraping for funds like lots of other clubs around the world.
