Wyndham council is also pushing extremely hard to get the building of the Sayers Rd/Tarneit West station brought forward.

+xthe Lou Sticca interview ^^^ was really good if you have a spare 70 minutes. front shirt sponsor to be announced in early July and information regarding the stadium to come out in mid July. its interesting to note that they still the think stadium will be ready by season 3. +xImagine if WSW had been playing in Wollongong until BankWest was built... that’s basically the Sydney equivalent of what Western Melbourne will be doing. Considering how turbulent it was whilst WSW were playing at Homebush (which is only 20 mins down the road from Parra), I have no idea how WM are going to make this work. clearly you do not know the Melbourne geography. Geelong to Tarneit is 45 mins by car and 32 mins by train. Tarneit is exactly halfway between Melbourne and Geelong. WIN stadium to ANZ stradium is 80 minutes by car and over 2 hours by train. Yeah, surely it is like The Southern Expansion bid playing games at Wollongong, except that Wollongong is a fucking great football stadium and Geelong is an AFL stadium.

Of the AFL grounds, Geelong is likely the best option as it is narrower. As for comparisons to Southern Expansion, unlike that idea this is not exactly by design, but by necessity. In the interim before the new stadium, the majority of matches will be in Geelong, but due to stadium usage limitations, it has been forced to look at alternatives to play a few matches each year. Not ideal, but not a deal breaker. I heard on a podcast the other day that WU will be opening a club shop near their offices at Truginina in a few weeks. Not sure exactly where though but that’s what was stated.

Yep been pushing since 2016 https://www.starweekly.com.au/news/push-for-extra-stations/https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2019-02/Victorian%20State%20Government%20Pre-budget%20Submission%20-%202019-20.pdfPre budget they pushed for funding Sayers road station - I am lead to believe they got nothing from the budget for the station.

They've got a big task ahead, they've got some smart administrators, they've got some quality football people too.
In the end their success will be based on how many people turn up and pay to watch them. Along with how many corporate sponsors back them and how deep their owners pockets are.
I doubt they will be a short or medium term success, history is littered with many smart people making poor strategic business.
In my opinion this will be a spectacular failure, the future will tell.

+x+xRealistically how many members will they get in their first season? 6-7,000? I'm picking no more than 3000 unless they sign a serious marquee. I'm predicting about the same. The stadium situation is simply not suitable for growing a 6-7k membership from day one. I have a few friends that live in the Wyndham area and are interested in the club but are not going to pull the trigger on anything until the stadium is available. They said they would probably go to the games at Marvel but less likely to go to Geelong. They said they aren't going to become members until they have a local easily accessible stadium. Which is completely understandable. So, my prediction is there could be a good number of casual supporters, but few that are willing to be members just yet. WUFC really need to prove their worth first. There simply isn't enough to get excited about. A big marquee may have some effect, but he would need to be of the ADP calibre or above to have any real effect.

The western United guys have been loitering around the local clubs in geelong, was at drysdale a few weeks ago, horvat rocked up stood around and left. They've got no hope, geelong is victory with a pretty decent drop of city, they aren't going to convert people or bring in new people just by existing. Quite frankly its been pretty piss poor.

If the FFA had any foresight or long term vision, they would’ve granted this mob conditional approval to be one of the 13/14th expansion sides. They could have gone away and built this stadium to have it ready for their entrance into the competition. In doing so they would have had a set date for the next round of expansion too.

+xif WU don't hit the ground running this year it will do more harm than good having them in the comp It will all come down to on field performance. Their minimum target needs to be 4th on the table, but they really need to be top of the table to gain any real momentum. They have nothing else going on for themselves, so the only way people will pay attention is if they are playing well and winning (especially against MV and MC). If they miss out on finals the first season, it will be very difficult to win any potential fans over. If they go the first two seasons without making finals, it will be disastrous for them.

I don’t think they expect it to be easy, but I get a feeling they may do better than we expect, on and off the park.
If they had their own stadium from day 1 though I think this would have been a far easier club to build. They will be playing catch up, spreading their resources across a vast area trying to get all the support they can, be it the Surf Coast, Geelong, Ballarat, Wyndham or the inner west.
We will wait and see I guess.

If WU get more than 5k members in the first few seasons I'll be stunned. I hope to be proven wrong, but I just can't see it happening. Kardinia is just a graveyard for football.

The only way I can see them getting those sort of numbers is If they come out swinging and somehow manage to win the double two years on the trot.

Looks like WU will be having a roadshow this month at Geelong (Kardinia Park), Ballarat (Morshead Park) and Hoppers Crossing (at a shopping centre).
With 100 days to go, good to see they are stepping up their game, but do think they have been too slow on engaging to a level that would have strengthened their base.
Good luck to them. We really do need them to be a success as another failed expansion would certainly not help us much.

That has long been my hope that the reds gain traction in Western Vic, I'm always on the recruit.. great news. Still really hoping WU's home games v AU will be in Ballarat, they'll get lots of reds fans on the road I reckon.
