Thanks for that certainly looks different than the original concept renders. Also seems like the roofing material certainly has changed. Value engineering :)

Certainly different comments on here then what ive heard, apparently all clubs in geelong had representatives there which is a good idea to keep them involved. Ive heard Rudan appeared confused as to his philosophy which isn't much different to what ive heard here whether thats an overstatement and move of the fact that he hadn't had long with the team. Lastly i was told they were overly confident on off field development, including the stadium and train station (vic gov have the train station for 6 years away).
Was definitely a good turn out from pictures but if they have reps from local teams ffv, club employees etc it doesn't seem as impressive.

+xThe club will play 8-9 homes at GMHBA in Geelong and the remainder at Mars Stadium in Ballarat. Personally I’m slightly disappointed they won’t be playing at Morshead but the positive is they’ll be playing home derbies in Geelong and not Marvel (big plus imo). Very disappointing that they're going with Mars Stadium, but I imagine Western United's hands are tied given the council's lack of investment in spectator facilities at Morshead Park, despite having an excellent pitch and brand new back of house facilities. If it was to snag a few more AFL games they'd have come to the table, no doubt.

Here’s a pic of mars with its new stands, I wonder how they’ll orientate the pitch

Only way that is acceptable is if they ram the pitcg against the stands and build temporary stands. Ballarat Council should be shown up for being fucking gooses for not properly finishing Morshead Park as planned now by losing these games to Knights Stadiums. Accepting these oval stadiums has just allowed Southern States to only build afl grounds as we have allowed it to be considered "good enough"

I think it will be a worse than GWS at first, but maybe over 5-10 years it might be more viable as the area grows, well, that's probably what they're trying to do.

some good stuff. some bad stuff.
good: - 2021 timeline remains. - derbies in Geelong. - cheap ticket prices and memberships.
Bad: - 15,000 stadium with capacity to grow by "4,000-6,000" isn't ambitious enough for mine. it should be 18,000 with capacity to grow to 25,000. - Mars stadium instead of Morsehead - Parking issues in the short term

+xPS yes, I came away feeling this club may have better support than we expected, was pretty good for a Monday night in Geelong. Fingers crossed anyway, but the night was professionally run overall. Already have seen a few Adelaide United fans change over to them.

Im fairly certain Knights Stadium has 4-5k seating which is on par with Mars and at least the viewing is very good for football.

Gut feel but I reckon one of the Ballarat games will involved Adelaide United.
Mars stadium isn't too bad for an oval stadium.
Was there for Port Bulldogs in 2017
A shame they don't have the Miners Tavern there anymore so interested what supporters will do for a pre game venue.

I think there’s a few who are “wait and see”, well at least two here who went to that meeting in Geelong. There’s a few WU supporters on Reddit.

Good thing is there will be a natural synergy between these two clubs. As the game gets bigger and the league gets bigger and the clubs get bigger.. Melbourne to Adelaide is a long way still but really there's only an arbitrary line that separates SE S.A. & Western Vic. A club representing what's West of Melbourne is a cool thing I reckon, I'm glad they've come along.

Agree, massive lack of vision/swifty support from the local shire in Ballarat. Hopefully something great comes from this upcoming info session at, errr, Morsehead Park.

Don't these type of decisions invariably come down to the magnitude of 'corporate facilities' on offer?

Temp seating at Morsehead for a guaranteed 4 games or whatever a season would be incredible. And really worthwhile and justifiable you'd reckon. Maybe their hands are tied, more likely WU lack the broad, wider support or maybe Lou Sticca just loves the idea of football on ovals.

It was Phil Cleary and Peter Jess that took Carlton to Olympic Park and Epping Stadium afterall.
