So when the Australian economy hits the skids and goes into reverse (inevitable) and the arse falls out (and I mean really falls out) of the housing market, what will become of Western United's already flakey 'guarantee' to build a new football stadium at Tarneit? Resimax (the property group that has majority ownership of Western United) has zero interest in furthering the best interests of football in Australia. It is only interested in generating coin from property development. When that coin stops generating, so too will Resimax's 'interest' in football. Shame, shame, shame on FFA for letting property developers in the through back door. South Melbourne was robbed and football cheated. On another slightly related topic - I'm curious to know as to whether or not Resimax's principal owner, Aziz Kheir, is related to the Melbourne-based Kheir crime family?

The question is, if the owners go under, or lose interest, or whatever, does the FFA bother to save them? Or do they let them go the way of the other expansion teams?

But probably make them an AAMI Park tennant with a generic rebrand. I still believe the ffa were desperare to get team11 in but the governments refusal to come to the party and the less then desirable Casey fields scared them off. Eventually WU was a AnYthINg BuT HeLlaS choice.

It's up to the independent league. They have a fund set aside for helping clubs with financial difficulties but that's not the kind of money that completes a stadium, it's the type of money that pays salaries. As with any privately funded project, there is the very real possibility that circumstances change and the stadium is not completed or experiences lengthy delays.

The duel additions of property developer-backed teams to the expanded A-League is starting to look like a very bad decision. The current perilous state of the game (based on a wad of metrics) should have demanded a 'safe bet' choice for the two expansion slots. Safe bets being football focused bids such as South Melbourne or Canberra. Indeed, the FFA board would have been wise to invite bids from the likes of Sydney United, Melbourne Knights, Sydney Olympic etc. But alas, the FFA board is anything but wise.

I reckon their kit would've looked better with more green on the tops and less black. A bit more like Nueva Chicago's in this clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7GF3QP3GqQ

Points deduction, probable relegation, let themselves find their feet in a lower level. Under the proposed model that won’t happen, they created a special fund to finance clubs through the tough times .... but once Div 2 is up and running there’s no reason why it can’t work this way - at least the points deduction part.

The awarding of the two new 'franchises' to 'bids' with no link whatsoever to football/soccer in Australia is a massive kick in the guts to great clubs like Sydney Croatia, South Melbourne Hellas, Adelaide Juventus, East Sydney Hakoah, Sydney Olympic, Melbourne Croatia and the Luke Wilkshirov-coached Wollongong Wolves. It's a kick in the guts to Australia's proud history of being a true multicultural nation, and it's a kick in the guts for reason.

Clubs that held football back in this country for decades more like. As bad as things are today, they are a lot better than when those ‘great clubs’ continually ran football in this country into the ground. Now we qualify for World Cups, we have a national league with crowds twice as big as the NSL, we have a tv deal where matches are actually shown.

Wholeheartedly agree Gyfox. However, once a second div is in play, let the weak be relegated and the strong - possibly old soccer like South Melbourne succeed.

Will they compete in the aleague with those names...bet they don't. Will a comp in an Italian or Croatian league accept a team called Southern Sydney Stallions?

Any recent developments RE: Stadium/stadium precinct? Or is still hush hush?
Looking at the squad they've assembled I wouldn't be surprised if WU are right up there this season.

The game was at Caroline Springs Georgies, the Storm played at AAMI Park last night. No word on Victory's twitter though, oddly.
