+x+xReal ‘dodgy bros’ stuff this WU mob. Seems their main interest and priority is to sell cheap townhouses in the middle of nowhere with a WU membership thrown in to unsuspecting migrants. One day this complete sham will unravel and all the $ide deal$ between council, property developers, FFA and ‘silent’ investors will get exposed. WU is a farce of the highest order, a joke, a scam, a lie, a disgrace to football in this country. They’ll never ever gain traction. People aren’t stupid and can see through this complete charade. Still bitter 2 years on. Time to get over it and start dreaming of your team being part of the second tier very soon. Btw, Tarneit is not in the middle of nowhere. 2 years and STILL no sign of any stadium that was promised and was their main bid selling point. Not even a shovel of dirt has been turned over yet. Just bullshit, excuses and delaying tactics. It won’t get built, ever. These property developer shonks will get their cheap land from a gullable council, sell it off and then fuck off. They’re no doubt relying on government cash to somehow get it built. Just a farcical situation. Enjoy.

+x+x+x+xWent to the game, was one of 200 people of the general public to get a ticket.
Tickets were sold on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis.
There was certainly a large contingent of North Geelong fans there. Their active group ‘North Fans’ were there in good numbers and provided good atmosphere.
Tbh, their active group would stand up well against a lot of A-League teams, wouldn’t surprise me if the vast majority of their group were also North Terrace members.
Stupidly they weren’t allowed to bring in a drum either, security stopped them at the gate. 😂
Anyway, on to Western United.
Yes, the ‘sell out’ crowd was 200 general public members, plus officials etc.
Was a good atmosphere thanks to the North fans, and there were plenty of Western United fans too, so I wouldn’t say they had no fans there at all - it was quite the opposite.
Was just great to be at a game again.
The game itself was a foregone conclusion.
North Geelong had only been training for two weeks and are NPL2, but as someone who’s a big advocate of the Geelong grassroots scene, it was a magnificent game to be at and it felt like a ‘derby’ in some ways.
Hopefully these two teams can face each other in pre-season at GMHBA stadium each year, would really build a local rivalry there.
I personally hadn’t been to a game since February, which I’m sure is the case for many of us on here.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to being able to go to more games, and it was just great to be back at the Football again! serious question, no agendas - do you get the feeling that geelong and western suburbs melby people are buying into WU? i thought that it was a poor decision when they were awarded (and i still think that) but now they are here, aus football needs them to thrive. There's a fan base in Wyndham area small but they're there . Most are first time aleaguers who didn't follow mv or city for numerous reasons. I got a feeling the Geelong fans aren't interested since after a while the team will up and leave g town I have a few friends and family that live in/around the area and they are genuinely interested in the club, however they are all very much in the 'lets wait and see' camp. They may go to a few games and watch on TV, but they are not keen on becoming members/regulars yet. There are two main reasons for this. First is the stadium (or lack there of). Until it's built, people are less than eager to invest their time and money. If the stadium never gets built, they may as well just follow the successful MV or well-backed MC. The second reason is the memory of Heart. It was half arsed in the beginning and lacked any real identity. CFG have slowly started to turn things around, but Victorians still very much remember the disappointment that was Heart. WU has a similar vibe at the moment. It still lacks identity. Sure they claim to belong to the west, but it's a very vague/broad definition of the west. That combined with the lack of a home, makes it a hard sell to the fans at the moment. I live in werribee and there is that attitude about with a lot of wu fans. Hell the council did promote the club a lot but its been pegged back. Probably start up again when the season is about to start.

Personally for me, if they don't commence building before the end of the upcoming season, I think serious questions need to be asked and answered. I think it is somewhat reasonable to cut them a bit of slack this year, as it would be ignorant to not recognise how the covid lockdowns have effected all businesses and projects in Victoria. However, as things are now returning to somewhat normal, they really need to get cracking. The upcoming season ends June 30th. If no shovel has touched that land by then, then it probably never will.

+xWestern United FC is pleased to announce that it will be entering two teams in the 2021 National Premier League (NPL) Victoria season. I'm pretty happy with this. Also the throwaway at the end of the article on the website states they plan to be fielding NPL juniors in 2022. All good signs as far as I'm concerned +x+xWent to the game, was one of 200 people of the general public to get a ticket.
Tickets were sold on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis.
There was certainly a large contingent of North Geelong fans there. Their active group ‘North Fans’ were there in good numbers and provided good atmosphere.
Tbh, their active group would stand up well against a lot of A-League teams, wouldn’t surprise me if the vast majority of their group were also North Terrace members.
Stupidly they weren’t allowed to bring in a drum either, security stopped them at the gate. 😂
Anyway, on to Western United.
Yes, the ‘sell out’ crowd was 200 general public members, plus officials etc.
Was a good atmosphere thanks to the North fans, and there were plenty of Western United fans too, so I wouldn’t say they had no fans there at all - it was quite the opposite.
Was just great to be at a game again.
The game itself was a foregone conclusion.
North Geelong had only been training for two weeks and are NPL2, but as someone who’s a big advocate of the Geelong grassroots scene, it was a magnificent game to be at and it felt like a ‘derby’ in some ways.
Hopefully these two teams can face each other in pre-season at GMHBA stadium each year, would really build a local rivalry there.
I personally hadn’t been to a game since February, which I’m sure is the case for many of us on here.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to being able to go to more games, and it was just great to be back at the Football again! serious question, no agendas - do you get the feeling that geelong and western suburbs melby people are buying into WU? i thought that it was a poor decision when they were awarded (and i still think that) but now they are here, aus football needs them to thrive. I know a couple of people in Geelong who have seriously brought in but they are concerned when Western move to Tarneit and if they will still be able to attend as regulary as they were in Geelong.

Stop with the negativity.. seriously this is out of control.
They are here now so deal with it. For once just hope that something in this sport is a good news story instead of constantly trying to bring things down to prove a point or further an agenda.
It’s good need that WU have made big strides in creating a W-League pathway and now also the NPL sides. It’s good work only 1 season in to get it up and running so let’s hope that they can continue to take steps to create an academy and get its infrastructure built.

At the end of the day, it’s a bigger issue than just them, as the structure and the willingness of many clubs to take part will be tested depending on the model that is considered viable.
As for WU’s entry, I think you can blame MV and MC just as much as neither wanted another inner city based club. I think that SMFC’s bid should have got the chance instead of MH at that stage, but this time around it was a non starter.

As for WU’s entry, I think you can blame MV and MC just as much as neither wanted another inner city based already established club. I think that SMFC’s bid should have got the chance instead of MH at that stage, but this time around it was a non starter. Yeah I know, they both actively spoke out about South's bid.... I don't blame them really as they where just looking out for their existing clubs and are afraid of loosing a portion of their fanbase ... not that I think they would have lost many members but certainly a few would have come back to South. No this is all on the FFAs crooked dealings with the WMG group.
