still a convincing loss but they are confirming that England have perhaps the 9th or 10th best bowling attack in the world cup

england have been lucky with the tosses they have won against minnows
if a team bats first they have every chance of putting 300+, even as a minnow and under world cup pressure its game on

To be fair to Engand their bowlers have averaged under 30 this world cup and Australia's bad game against india actually puts us behind them. We need our 3rd and 4th bowlers to really lift
New Zealand going along beautifully with 30 wickets at 18, albeit against easy opponents

There is a notable difference in how the two countries press covers their sports squads and I reckon it makes a big difference to how the teams handle pressure

any others?

india defend their total with a diet of yorkers at the death
I'm surprised there weren't more scoop shots
1 or 2 of them and the bowler changes their plan and its much more in the favour of the bastmen

team of the tournament?
Bowling would be tough to pick with Starc, Dorff, Cummins, Bumrah, Locki, Joffra and Bolt all being options
For batsmen the openers are finch and warner
middle order are hasan and root
For the three all rounders stokes is daylight ahead of the next but the next two are tricky. Probably go maxwell and Carey/Butler

When I’m watching Jofra Archer rattle batters with his pace, he wasn’t as fast as Tasmanian Riley Meredith when they played last season for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Archer often bowls in the high 140s, but Meredith goes over 150kph.
Archer probably bowls straighter, but I think Meredith bowled faster last season in the Shield than anyone in this WC.
Wood has bowled balls at 154 kph, but doesn’t even average 140kph.
Meredith was recorded at 154 kph in BBL.
I wonder whether Meredith could’ve been a better option than NCN or Richardson?

+xWhen I’m watching Jofra Archer rattle batters with his pace, he wasn’t as fast as Tasmanian Riley Meredith when they played last season for the Hobart Hurricanes. I wonder whether Meredith could’ve been a better option than NCN or Richardson? he's quite young, might get a chance next world cup I wish we had James Pattison in the squad. Another oldball specialist who might be even better than cummins!

I must admit I was beastly careless about LOC before this WC, but I’ve loved this event!
I really enjoy all international teams in the one place at the same time.

2 things have put England ahead at this stage of the game
1. Poor fielding cost them about 20 2. A conservative first 10 overs had them 1/27 after 10 maybe 15 behind where they needed

Much prefer these shots off the back foot.

+xI don’t like a lot of the front foot hooking and pulling from Pant. Much prefer these shots off the back foot. I was a front foot puller I always thought it was a safer shot than the cut shot against the short wide deliveries. I would front foot pull through the covers or mid off/on rather and try and drag it onto the legside (which increases the risk in the shot!)

probably a touch too many for the kiwis but we will see
they havent looked like scoring 300 all tournament
The toss today might have been huge if speculation about the pitch slowing up is correct. It could be worth 50 or so runs
If its a new ball pitch the kiwis should go a little harder at first

they have gotten out so far through sheer stupidity and there isn't much in the pitch
not sure if win predictor takes that into account

if your main goal is not to get out, back of a length bowling is good for both sides because the runs and wickets are stopped (except today with NZ not reviewing a howler and knicking down leg side)
I think you should be positive. Its easy to hit back of a length over the infield if you are willing

I texted a mate last night to ask? I'm interested too. I'm going around to his place tonight for a cricket party, so I will know in a few hours after a few beers!

Unless England get to the final now apparently The epic 2005 Ashes was shown blanket coverage on ch4 and the whole series did wonders for the game. After that they promptly put intl cricket behind a paywall. Now it’s become a niche, uncool sport. Clever that.

Headingley is the ground, which is Yorkshire’s home ground.
I think it is in Leeds.
I’ve viewed cricket at this ground before, but it doesn’t seem familiar.

Yes, me too - watched Tests/ODIs in the 80s there, the ground is completely revamped now aye, the miserable Yorkies only agreed to get out their brass when they realised they’d never be allowed to stage international creekit again otherwise.

Afghanistan is staying competitive.
Didn’t realise they had a decent domestic comp to produce players as good as they have at this World Cup.

Good pull from Rahmat!
Are these guys guys playing Test Cricket now, along with Ireland.
Shots like this pull, and his current off drive indicates these blokes are good enough for the long form.

runouts are so devastating
they literally turn a match. You go from needing 4 top order wickets to get into the tail to only 3

India 4-52 off 17 overs does not augur well for India winning this game.
The Kiwi 239 looks like a big total ATM.

Panda and Pant going alright though. And with Dhoni and Jadeja still to come India definitely have the batting left to do it. NZ need to keep the pressure on

India seemed to be consolidating until Pant has just been caught in the deep off Santner.
5- 71 off 23.

Not sure if Dhoni is the batsman he was.
He has plenty of experience in big games his teammates might not have in such a high pressure match in the World Cup.

+xNot sure if Dhoni is the batsman he was. He has plenty of experience in big games his teammates might not have in such a high pressure match in the World Cup. May not be what he once was but hes still supremely talented and I would be wanting him out soon if I was NZ. Hes got too much experience and talent to know how to construct the case.

So far you are correct. What a partnership under extreme pressure.

Jadeja can bat after hitting that 6, but if one of these two loses their wicket it will be very tough going for India.

Jadeja gets 1/34 off 10 overs with the ball, a superb catch and a run out in the field and 77 with the bat but doesnt get man of the match
