Is it because it is perceived as not the top level?

Test cricket being the highest form of red ball cricket.

Shield cricket is the stepping stone to Test cricket DC. All Test players have been state cricketers as you are well aware..

With GOAT’s 7 wicket haul for the game, he is 6th highest Test wicket taker of all time behind Harbajan, Herath, Kumble, Warne and Murali.

Warne thinks he will end up overtaking him!
Disappointing by the Black Caps. They sure gifted Lyon a good swag of his wickets with poorly executed slogs.

Cant see him overtaking Warne. He is good. Not that good. Will eclipse Harbi and Herath..

With Burns having scored Test 4 tons and a Test 90, weight of runs probably has him a deserved opening spot.

I had not noticed good strike rotation, which helps a bowler build pressure.

DC Burns four tons are over four years. Two are first innings two second innings. His last one was 180.. part of a massive score.. from memory three made tons. His 90 was also scored on a batting belter.
Good strike rotation is important but occupying the crease is paramount. Joe simply does not do that as often as we need him to. When Renshaw sorts out his game he will be back. Then there are rookies Bryce Street and Henry Hunt..both of which are very correct and love spending time in the middle. I want to see one of these two chosen in the Aust A v England Lions game this month.

Yeh maximum 500 person per game. In other words poor. I honestly do not know why state red ball cricket is not better patronized. I attend every state game outside of the SCG.

Lyon just bowled a ball that went straight on and bounced high.

Is this a finger spinner’s top spinner or slider?

If it had been a wrist spinner I would have called it a top spinner, which I can bowl.

its easier to face 3 balls in a row against world class bowling with bad technique than it is to face 6 with good technique

both burns and warner are good at quick singles when batting together

Not up to what was needed as the team's most senior player. Time to hang up the bat.

A bit harsh for Taylor, Baggers.

He could have made more runs abroad than most current Aussies with a 47 average.

Who said I'm not on there using a different name? Don't worry Baggers I don't reply to anything you personally write, I let the others do the work LOL.  I personally have no problem with them, and see quite a bit of respect from fellow posters. Love the movie forums better though I will admit.

Whirlpool is far more entertaining, but finding sites that offer reasonable arguments, from intelligent international cricket followers like Paddles, are difficult to come by. .

Apologies to Paddles if he is reading this, because what I’m going to post is hypocritical.

Whirlpool is a terrible cricket forum. Some knowledgeable posters post there occasionally, and are immediately attacked by gangs of Forum regulars with little knowledge. They think because enough people say 2plus 1 makes 4, they are correct.

They even ignore axiomatic cricket stats supporting the qualities, of lack of, or loss of form, of specific players.

They’d hate Mike and Paddles’ usually well researched stats.

Some posters on Whirlpool, devoid of any serious cricket background, think they know more than Aus’s top cricket coaches.

Rather than being ridiculed, they become emboldened because they are supported by more cricket cretins.

I’ve seen the same happen a little on FTBL Forum, but nothing like Whirlpool.

Knowledgeable people can sometimes shake their heads and avoid participating, which could result in other posters thirsting for knowledge denied the opportunity in a number of sports.

I am hoping these two can take us to stumps. Wanna watch some cricket tomorrow.. not denied.. as this is the last Test we will see until mid year and that is only a shortie two tester.

Plus we could be losing five day Tests altogether.

game management is arguably more important than technique and burns allows quick strike rotation so a bowler can't build up pressure
not sure if we have anyone better for the opening spot but maybe khawaja anyway

Taylor clean bowled by Cummins with a Jaffa!

It swung in through the air, then seamed away off the pitch.

Poor Ross.

I was hoping he would go on.

To my knowledge it is a co Kiwi/Aussie forum. I was pissed off with Paddles. Didnt mean it. He was posting soon after so he knew I didnt too. Like you he posts his opinions down your throat until you have had it. On this occasion I did have it incorrect and acknowledged that fact. But who the hell knows that the ICC does not make up its own FTP. Its name is on the home page which you will find on its website. If member nations do in fact make the FTP then what good is even having the ICC. It is a toothless tiger to allow the big three to walk all over it.

As I see it if we want to move cricket  from the backlot into a world sport we need to begin promoting more Associate nations. I wanna see a lower tier introduced for these nations to play each other and for it to run on a promotion/relegation process. Over time these minnow nations will  be the standard needed to play the stronger nations. Probably a pipe dream but if Test cricket is to survive over the white ball game some serious thinking outside the box is required.

We need something to arrest the decline of red ball cricket.

I thought Burns has too much of a gap between bat and pad with vertical shots?

Like Wade and Paine.

Your stats show they have had a fair bit of success though.

Not at all DC, here is the list of opening partnerships in the history of the game, that played 10 or more innings together. 215 in total

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=fow_average;partnership_wicketmax1=1;partnership_wicketval1=partnership_wicket;qualmin1=10;qualval1=fow_innings;spanmax2=6+jan+2020;spanmin2=01+jan+1880;spanval2=span;template=results;type=fow

Notice that burns and Warner have currently jumped ahead of Hayden and Langer, (probably will change after this innings is completed), better than Slater and Taylor, Better than Greenidge and Haynes (and that won't change after this innings is complete).

More recent in the last 20 years?

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=fow_average;partnership_wicketmax1=1;partnership_wicketval1=partnership_wicket;qualmin1=10;qualval1=fow_innings;spanmax2=6+jan+2020;spanmin2=01+jan+2000;spanval2=span;template=results;type=fow

Burns and Warner partnership is one of the best! 7 century partnerships now.

Not bad for an opener who has all these so-called technical batting problems, or maybe someone is just talking through his proverbial.

WP Cricket site is a den for trolls mate. There is a certain clique of veteran posters who think they are cricket gods. You post something they disapprove of and within ten minutes at least four of them have replied for their troll mate.. with totally unconstructive, critical, insubstantive rubbish.
