I like Maritimos new stadium, just under 11,000 built for €35mil, cost probably higher due to being on an island in the middle of the Atlantic. Would be perfect for a smaller A-League/potential A2 club. http://stadiumdb.com/stadiums/por/estadio_do_maritimo

agreed SutherlandFan, another rippa small stad. I know where that is having visited Madeira, my inlaws are from there - Funchal is the capital. Beautiful place and football is everywhere, its CR7's home. 35,000,000 Euro equals AU$58,654,296.68 :)

You know. This is exactly where the stadium should be for a Coolangatta/Byron bay team. Get the southern region involved. No idea how you fit a whole stadium there, there is some park land on the other side.

The UK has so many lower division and non-league clubs needing to build facilities cheaply that they actually do have companies offering prefabricated stands, for as little as 1000 quid a seat. It would be nice if the NPL scene could develop something similar, which would avoid fiascos like this: https://www.smh.com.au/sydney-news/the-saga-of-fraser-park-the-little-club-that-wanted-a-big-grandstand-20180511-p4zerm.html

Brisbane Roar think they can get a 15k seater stadium done for $60m. According to a mortgage calculator, at 4% interest, paid back over 30 years, that would come to $3.4m per year. At present they need 13,000 fans to break even at Suncorp, so they are basically losing money from playing there. Let's say they can get 13,000 at a new ground. Then that's:
13,000 x average of $20 per ticket x ca. 15 home matches per season = $3.9m per year.
Concessions, corporate hospitality, advertising and naming rights would be on top of that (say, maybe $2m all up) and there would also be the potential for hiring the ground out for other events (NPL finals, international matches, concerts, etc.).
If a boutique-sized stadium can be built economically then the finances of teams owning their own grounds actually start to stack up.

I suspect owners aren’t going to jump into this type of commitment until there is stability for their investment, ie: - a medium term (5 years+) plan to reform the league - clarity around the operating model - secured revenue from a new brodcast deal - (and I hate to say this one) potentially long term guarantee of being in the league in the form of another 10 year license renewal meaning no relegation

Mudgee stadium was built in 2010 for $9M in 2010. Including lights and playing surface.
Only 1000 seats but a nice little stadium.

Those stadiums are great but to reduce onsite labour costs the way for cheap and most importantly sustainable built smaller stadiums in Australia are modular designed stadiums. Bear stadiums are amazing ranging from 5k upwards. you could easily custom design their modular stadiums to suit. https://www.bearstadiums.com/ennot sure what other companies are offering similar but I’m sure we could get a good price.

Yeh Bear Stadiums are really the way of the future. they are modular so you can easily upgrade and continue to grow the stadium. They can be tweaked or have add ons so stadiums can look different from each other as well. i am in no way affiliated with Bear Stadiums just was researching affordable stadiums and came across these beauty’s! They are made from timber which is amazing and keeps costs down.
the range can work from NPL teams starting off. To mid range NSD sides to 20k ALeague designs!
Does anyone else know of affordable stadium designs like bear stadiums that can deliver stadiums this way?
Love for a Club to cost a stadium like this to be built in Australia and see what the price comes out too.
very interesting to see!!
thoughts?

Being an Italian company they have probably had a hard time thanks to Coronavirus, and I imagine that their sales people would be coy on a pricetag, but it'll be good to hear more.

It’s quite a nice design in its own right and the scalability makes it a good option for lots of clubs. The only reservation would be it being wood which might freak some out.

I'm fascinated by the wood design, for aesthetic, affordability and sustainability reasons. Pity it's all imported though, using local responsibly harvested timber in a place like Tassie would be a big selling point.

If memory serves me correctly, the Brisbane Strikers were proposing to build a 12,000 - 15,000 capacity stadium for $15 - $18 Million back in 2004 when they applied for the HAL. Land costs excluded. Would imagine it would now cost some $30 Million for the same thing, which is the entry point for a minimalist but functional, fit for purpose stadium.

It was about that, although Strikers never applied for the HAL
Also the lease on Perry Park has changed - they are no longer the tenants and are actually sub-tenants to the YMCA

Unfortunately something like that would cost $100m here.
A couple of UK stadiums I like are both from rugby league, Warrington (15k) and St Helens (18k). Not sure how to post images, but check em out.

Central Coast stadium was build off side then the cement parts bolted to the steel .. on site ...
In 1999 it costs 30 million to build excluding land costs ..allowing for inflation my guess is between 45 & 60 million today...

If you were to build several stadiums in bulk exactly the same design, the cost would be much lower.
i suggested Larry kestleman do the same for basketball instead of shelving all,the revenue elsewhere. with the cairns convention centre renovations, they building a 2000 seat arena within a bunnings warehouse. knox arena 6000-8000 seater proposed to be built in next few years for sem phoenix. Building ya own on a piece of land would be half the cost.

+xIf you were to build several stadiums in bulk exactly the same design, the cost would be much lower. I like the Ikea scale of economy approach. If as much as possible of a modular design could be built in one location to be shipped out and assembled on-site then that could offer significant savings, and of course buying in bulk would drive the costs down as well.

Ooop sorry, forgot its not even called soccer anymore its football now becuase the millenials like it as they can pretend they are in England and on the set of "Green Street" Oi oi.... It is “ Football “ all around the world, bar maybe a couple of rogue nations. Their is also a hint in “ FIFA “. Imagine having a crack at people calling the game "football" on a football forum. So pathetic. Yeah well this is the Dickhead known as "Monoethnic Social Club", South Melbourne Hellas invented football remember. I don't know of anywhere in England where they call it soccer, Mono again sprouting his FACTS on us. He is about as credible as a Greek War Hero. That fat windbag Churchill himself claimed that "Heroes fought like Greeks" and even Stalin thanked the Greek people for delaying the Nazis enough in the summer of 41 to delay operation Barbarossa and ultimately give the Soviets enough time to prepare for war... what are you referring too?

Hmmm I think the next gambit might by "prevalence of homosexuality in Ancient Greece" hahahahahahha Not sure though, its certainly entertaining :) An old Greek man and an old Italian man are arguing. The Greek man says "Look, all I'm saying is that the Greeks invented everything the Romans get credit for!" The Italian says "Yes, may be, but the Romans improved it and made it useful!" The Greek man says "We invented the Democracy!" The Italian says "We realized the challenge of direct elections and the benefit of the legislature, and thus created the Republic!" The Greek man says "Yes, but we created beautiful architecture like the Parthenon!" The Italian says "And we improved your building techniques, and used them to create aqueducts and structures that stood for centuries longer!" The Greek man, frustrated, finally says "Ah, of course. But the Greeks, we INVENTED sex!" The Italian man says "That may be true, but we introduced it to women."

+x+x+x+x+x+x+xThat’s all you need we need to look at Scotland for size of stadiums with a few exceptions victory and wsw and say Syd fc all the rest around 10k stadiums as that is all we are going to ever fill, the glory days are over in terms of people going to the stadiums Is that Tarneit?? No mate THE "Western Wembley" is going to be amazing when it is built, exactly as promised and to schedule. Revolutionary AND groundbreaking, it is going to change the face of soccer in this country... Nothing wrong with calling it soccer. My kids call it football. I grew up with soccer and interchange between the 2 depending on who I talk to. I really don't care and marvel at blokes getting their panties in a bunch over something so trivial. Well talk to your mate Mono he is the one who chose to highlight to deflect from some other "FACT" he was sprounting, Just pointing out his "FACTS" saying that I don't know anyone in England that calls it soccer.

I disagree. the word "soccer" has a stigma attached to it in this country. its associated with the negative side of the game. Its also the choice word of the bogans who have no understanding of the beautiful game.

It has always been called soccer in this country mate, only after Lowy's little refresh in 2005 did it change because, in the FFA's way of thinking they wanted to distance themselves from "old soccer"... I don't think anyone I know calls it Soccer in a negative way, its just what we have all grown up knowing the game as. I think the "new football" crowd are a little precious about this to be honest when there is no need to be.

Tradesmen in Australia think they walk on water though OP. They charge like a wounded bull for minimum wage shit. Half of them couldn't even work a coffee machine or spell their own name yet expect to be paid like $40 and hour for carrying bricks on a Monday ffs. *True Aussie heroes*.
That's why stadiums cost $200m and most Aussies will be burried in debt until they die from their mortgage so some bogan drooling out the side of his head can paint dirt on bricks for $300 an hour.

That's cheap. How good would it be to be a tradesman at the moment? Charge like a wounded bull, don't turn up on time, don't quote unless they can make an absolute fortune, do substandard shit. And all the while while they look at you with contempt because you had the temerity to get a degree and know nothing about the 'real world'. Almost wish a recession would hit Australia so a few of these pricks got a reality check.

It worked Mission Accomplished eh? The mission is to keep growing the code, popularize it and allow it to prosper on it's own accord. It's been much healthier in the last 15 years than ever before in it's history. But no, still a way to go to reach its full potential.

So a thread about stadium design ends up morphing into a discussion/argument about ancient Greeks and Romans, Greeks in WW2, and whether the game should be called football or soccer ................

Unfortunately true. Just need to look at who the instigator was. I'm still holding my hopes on a Roar announcement soon on a new / refurbished stadium, but not holding my breath.

We can include everyones heritage if you want, I guess most of our fore fathers came here on a boat of some description.(eccept of course our most recent migrants) Some peddled over on canoes 10 thousand years ago, some sat on the deck clutching their few possesions waiting to start a new life whilst others were chained down below deck and fed bread and water.

Here's an example from the article above of a club getting their decisions about their stadium really, really right: Sacramento Republic FC's Papa Murphy's Park: 11.5k seats, only $3m USD in 2014! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmEeT4pZqeU&ab_channel=SacramentoRepublicFCAfter playing USL (second division) games on an artificial college gridiron field inside an athletics track, they moved to their own 11.5k seat no-frills modular football-specific venue, but despite the lack of gold-plated facilities the fans came to watch the actual football (who'd have thought?) and they sold out virtually all their games for several seasons creating their own atmosphere and culture, eventually earning themselves a spot in the MLS, and (much like Victory being rewarded by the state government for our early crowds with AAMI Park) they've attracted investment and local government concessions to build this 20k beauty for when they commence play in the top tier. Proof you don't need geodesic domes, craft breweries, or whatever else developers can think up to pad the bill: football fans just want a place to watch the football.

I remember reading about Empire Field. Always thought it was a good way to go.
My only worry would be how they hold p long term. But as a start. I think they are perfect!

Nice to see a bear in the wild! Cost $8.8m CAD in 2018, which is virtually the same as AUD.

Unfortunately construction is just so damn expensive in this country, and that's what will [probably] hold back teams from deciding to build their own stadiums. I'm really impressed with some of the designs that I've seen in this thread, and the FK Krasnodar stadium is magnificent imo. Most A-League teams really only need a 20k [maximum] capacity for a lot of their games, and if they have a game with significant demand: there's plenty of stadiums within each state where the game could be moved to. I was talking with a mate in Thailand recently about Chang Arena, the home of Buriram United, and was astonished to find that it only cost US$12-17m to build, whilst the construction time was only 254 days! I commented that a stadium like that would take 3-5 years to build in Australia, and cost upwards of $200m to build. It's a truly magnificent stadium, but I won't be able to get back there for a while yet unfortunately.

Such a good stadium, a dream away trip. I've been to some awesome stadiums in Thailand, and I've been to some... not so good ones  The atmosphere is always so enjoyable, and that's the key thing. There's plenty more around the country that I want to tick off, whilst I'd also like to see a few of the other stadiums in the region that look quite good too. Got a few friends that are playing in Cambodia atm, so I'd like to get over and watch them play when restrictions allow me to.

Segra Field Segra Field is a soccer-specific stadium in Leesburg, Virginia and the home of Loudoun United FC of the USL Championship and Old Glory DC of Major League Rugby. 5k seats 15mil cost for the whole complex Using an imagined Tasmanian example both footall and rugby can push Hobart council and state gov to assist with funding along with interested investors. Could also be an option for second Adelaide, Brisbane team or even the WU shit showcould provide a neat little atmosphere similar to Dolphin stadium. growth potential to 7k which would be a good boutique size with corporate behind one goal and increased seating behind the other. Matildas, youth internationals, visiting A-League or home A-League team ,local club finals and or visiting Rugby teams plus concerts could make it worthy to Gov https://vimeo.com/350746520 good vid of the stadium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xl1n4raA4g game day
