+xNot surprised at all. Such an overrated manager it’s not even funny. Who's laughing? Better yet who pissed in your sandwich this morning? I was hoping he would do well and lead to more Aussie kids getting a go overseas. Can't imagine going from Australia to Belgium during a pandemic is an absolute cake walk for anyone.

If he never played for Victory and was only known in Australia for his career in England and service for the Socceroos I am certain that almost no Australian football fans would share this view.

Iirc the club head hunted him and will give him time. They aren't one of the big clubs in Belgium

When he was appointed, I thought he’d be done within 18 months and now he may not even last 12.
He’s finally been exposed for the fraud that he is.

Honestly way to show your support for a Aussie manager in a decent league. No wonder why Football is going no where got fans slagging of our own left right and center
these Kangaroos can play football - Ange P. (Intercontinental WC Play-offs 2017)

You can't concede that his time with the Victory has shaped your views on him even a little? Let me put it this way: were you booing him when he scored his penalty for the Socceroos in the 2002 World Cup qualifier playoffs against Uruguay at the MCG before he came to Victory?

The club are so confident in him they even kept his seat warm for 12 months with a subordinate while he got his European tickets, where else has that happened lately in the European professional game?

I’m not the biggest Muscat fan but am wishing him as much success as possible with this gig as he is effectively representing Australia’s coaching ability right now. Don’t really care about his playing history in this scenario.

Think as a player Muscat had ‘white line fever’ on the pitch. As some of you guys mentioned earlier he is 1 of the very few Aussie coaches in Europe and if he sticks around he can open up doors for Aussie players to play there. Dirty player at times for sure- but pretty good coach by Australian standards at least

Opening a pathway for Australian coaching talent in Europe and providing a key opportunity to grow the strength of our game as a whole isn't important, a 144p youtube video of a late tackle from nine years ago against some NPL player is much more important BECAUSE HE USED TO PLAY FOR A TEAM I DON'T LIKE.

I saw Muscat as a dirty player that got away without a red card but was happy that he scored for the Socceroos and put us ahead in the home leg against Uruguay. But the same as the 3-1 win against Japan in 2006, I thought that Timmy was lucky not to get a penalty against him to put us behind against Japan. That game could have been Timmy in disgrace rather than Timmy the hero. Glad it worked out for him and the Socceroos

I think your reasonable opinion of what happened in that game in 2006 does not have a lot to do with the vitriol leveled at an Australian coach in the Belgian league trying to pave a path for Australian football in 2020. If Kev did get a red for whatever reason in that friendly against France he still would have still been perfectly eligible for the WCQ, unless the rules have changed since then. Like sub I was a youngun' back then myself so I can't claim expertise on the specifics. I think it's helpful that you did tell us that you didn't boo him at the time, obviously as that was before Victory even existed. Thanks to your insights from back then I'm even more sure than I was before that 99% of what we hear about him in the Australian football fandom wouldn't be heard if he never played for Victory, or certainly not at the levels of vitriol we see in this thread today.

Look at the stats if you want a reasonable debate: https://www.ultimatealeague.com/records.php?type=mgr&show=msmThe third highest winning percentage of anyone with more than 100 games being "a pretty good coach by [insert relevant country] standards" in a given country should be beyond debate to anyone reasonable.

Just because I view him as a dirty player doesn't mean I hope he fails OS as a coach. I want to see Harry, Popovic and Muscat all succeed. Ange had a lot of success last year but seemed to have fallen off the pace this year. I hope he can turn that around as well.
