It's not just about Muscat as a player, horrendous though that was - he's been a behavioural disgrace on the sidelines as a coach too.

He seems to lack any self control or sense of dignity when he goes near a football pitch.  So which is the real Kevin Muscat - the charmer who people meet off the park, or the player who quite deliberately inflicted serious injuries on opposing players and foul mouthed, abusive sideline reprobate?

Muscat failing will have absolutely no impact on the other Australian managers, managers get selected based on their competence, and if Muscat proves to not be competent then its all on him.

Also, I fucking despise him for the way he played. White line fever doesn't excuse his choices.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

If he fails in Belgium, looks like the Socceroo's manager spot may be open to him soon......

Would also go to ground like he was shot at the drop of a hat in the same game as stamping on someone behind play.

He may be the nicest family man at home but on the pitch he was an absolute piece if shit and Victory fans have to just accept that he was maybe THEIR piece of shit, but a piece of shit nonetheless

Injured during an FA fixture, Holmes' leg was so damaged that the surgeon feared he may lose it. In the aftermath, a six-year battle for compensation finally ended in 2004 when he was awarded a total of £750,000 in damages.

Kevin was an old player who couldn't keep up and laid a late challenge,

A late challenge?
Is that honestly how you describe that incident in your mind?

You can defend the man off the pitch but not on it.

You're saying other people are tainted by disliking Melbourne Victory but can't manage to see that if he weren't your team's championship winning captain there's no way you'd be defending his ON pitch actions with the same tenacity.

sometimes you just got to suck it up and admit, yer that guy in general has been great making a DH of himself and that he has (no matter who he coached), I'm expressing my thoughts gracefully.
It wasn't just his terrible behaviour on the pitch its been his arrogance when interviewed during his coaching here.
The crap Arnie gets bloody muscat is the same arrogant mouth type as well, thats how he came across.
Oh for the sake of Australian football now, spare me.
He sure isn't the type of spokesmen that will endear many in EU, yer might open a door for a young un great but I'm sure they'll be glad for the door hit his arse on the way out most liklely.
If I'm proven wrong good luck to him.

I am sure you do, but I am also sure many fans in Australia want him to fail and suffer due to his links with Victory, regardless of the cost to the Australian game as a whole.

Disagree with this outlook in general. There's been many players that played for victory that people wouldn't have any want that they fail after leaving the club. Another example is with Postecoglou coaching victory. He didnt polarize opinion because of his being at the club. Victory supporters have always been good at having a victim mentality and this is another example. Muscat is not a victim of playing for victory. He's a victim of his own barbaric way of playing the game.
What's embarrassing is how victory supporters, you included, play down his behavior. For example, who cares that he ruined a young players season with a purposeful knee high tackle. He's only an npl level player. What great justification.

Thug of a player but only a fool would has said he didn't show promise as a coach. I wanted him to do well for Australian football and its disappointing he hasn't thus far.

You have to admit that Victory fans have reveled in Arnie's failures though.

I suppose you're talking about me.

The Arnie head shaking gif is funny as fuck and I have no intention of stopping posting it any time soon. I certainly have my misgivings about his personality and his penchant for holding grudges, but as Socceroos coach I wish him every success and support him 100%, while still being critical.

I think that's a pretty reasonable position for a football fan, but the level of energy some fans put into hating Muscat is a little sad, in my view.

Not talking about you specifically.  It was directed at the shudder (I think this is the correct collective noun) of MV supporters :P

Everyone who has actually met him seems to affirm that he is likeable and good humoured.  But on the park, as a player, he was an utter barbarian, deliberately setting out, on occasion, to seriously injure opposing players.  He deliberately and seriously injured, in my watching, Dugarrry and Zara.  He was taken to court in the UK by a player whose career he ended through deliberately inflicted injury.  These three cases are beyond dispute, and I am sure there are others.  However he appears now - and frankly, Pal, he's been pretty unattractive as a coach on the sidelines too - he was a disgrace to the game as a player, and this is made all the worse by the fact that he didn't have to play like this. He was a fine player and his cynical violence was completely unnecessary.

Whatever negative things fall his way in the game now are long overdue karmic return.

I've spoken to the man several times personally and believe him to be of good character, while certainly an uncompromising competitor. I can even say I've tried to take some learnings from him in my own personal and professional life, particularly in the area of standing up for myself, leading a team and owning responsibility.

You can say whatever you like about me and my character, no worries.

Threatened Ashley young on his debut as a teenager. I like your input on this forum Pala and im happy to leave this as a disagreement but if you believe his conduct is a sign of a person with good character well guess that say more about you than anything really.

Yeah I’d be friends with the person who destroyed my dream career too, also it’s forecast to rain $100 notes tomorrow....jezz pull your head out of your ass.

"Destroyed my dream career", turn it up ffs.

You want him to have been on the cusp of being the next Messi when mean old Muscat deliberately harmed him because that's the narrative that appeals to you, but the boring old reality is that Kevin was an old player who couldn't keep up and laid a late challenge, and Zahra has had a decade of football to prove himself since then and has found his level in the NPL.

Guarantee you wouldn't know this bloke's name if it wasn't for that tackle.

Gertjan Verbeek is statistically Adelaide United’s best manager when in reality he was probably the second worst manager the club had ever had...

Again I've presented the stats, if you have your own interpretation of them then that's your business, but I think over several seasons and more than a hundred games I think it's a pretty fair set of data to go off.

They didn’t have better players after he left tho lol.

Your opinion.

Couldn't stand him as a player, but wish him the best in this role. I hope he makes a go of this position.  It could be ground breaking stuff for Muscat and Australian football.   If he can succeed, it will be a big positive for Aus football.

Funniest posts are the MV supporters (yeah the ones that incessantly bag Arnold as the national team coach - primarily based on the club he coached) lecturing other supporters to overlook their Muscat bias and get behind Kev.  Good stuff.

Couldn’t care less he played for MV, I judge the content of his character. And that content is dogshit. He’s the one Aussie football person I wish nothing but failure for and it’s shameful his coaching career abroad will reflect on Australian football, no doubt poorly just like his scumbag playing career has.

Put your MV loyalties aside and demand a better quality of human than this grub.

Stats are meaningless without context.

Nearly anyone could have that winning percentage if they were given one of the strongest squads in the league every season, more money to spend than other clubs and a board that gave him everything to succeed.

If he was instead managing a mid sized club, where he wasn’t liked by the fans and didn’t have what he was given at Victory, do you really think he could be successful?

Honestly I doubt it and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up on the managerial scrapheap.

Well, I presented the evidence, you can have your opinion but those are the stats.
