+x+x+xIm usually the most pessimistic on here but hear me out....... WE CANNOT LOSE ON SUNDAY.... It is written, I dont know how I know but I just do.... The PM of Australia just discussed soccer tactics in Parliament AND SOUNDED LIKE HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT....... IN AUSTRALIA?!?!?!?!?!? Anyone over the age of 20 would know this is as amazing as a caveman being told that one day man would walk on the moon..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9HJBTlQ5Xo- We will beat the Argies, on penalties, with that bearded wiggle dude's dancing causing Messi to miss
- Australian fans will ALMSOT set the country on fire - the world will be in disbelief
- FFA, on Monday morning will announce NSD with promotion AND relegation to NPL and State level
- APL will call for expression of interest from Tasmania, Wollongong, ACT and a second club from either Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane to begin in 1-2 years
- FFA will then announce, FULL pro/rel with Aleague and ALL elagues below to commence from 2026
- Well all be so exhausted by Thursday/Friday the Roos winning our quarter finals match will be the cherry on the cake :)
Albo is from the inner west of Sydney (and used to be a regular at the Apia Club when I lived in Sydney so he would know plenty about football As for the grey wiggle - the last time we played at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium was the Peru game. mate he was on the piss at the APIA club and probably gambling for as you know its not at Lambert Park :) and he's a nrl bunny man through and through. I know his NRL background but you don't grow up in the area from Five Dock to Stanmore without knowing football. The 1974 Socceroos captain played for both Western Suburbs and Apia-Leichhardt in the NSL. Sure the Rabbitohs and Tigers were probably higher profile but football in the area was / is? very prominent. I lived in Five Dock and worked in Leichhardt and Apia-Leichhardt in particular were integral to the community across the area

Holy Shit in Parliament, in Australia!!!!!!!! Dont know about you guys but I never dreamed I would EVER see something like that, even if we got an ex Socceroo as PM one day..... remarkable.

I found my old 2010 Socceroos shorts the past month or so. Didn't wear them against France, but did wear them during the Tunisia and Denmark games. Hadn't worn them since the 2014 game against Netherlands. Not sure what we can put our success down to at the moment: Arnie, or the shorts?

I'd say he was being very diplomatic mixing around very populated ethnic area/s having 50% Italian blood but he was working hard being accepted Aussie due to his career path hence his nrl devotion but sure pj he would have an idea, more than many pollies I guess. Ol Wilson, mentioning him the mullet days haha. MSC I haven't looked at the vid I'll check it out in time.

The stupid windo shade on a QANTAS 717 seat 20A, arriving in Melbourne at 7.3pm on Wednesday is why we beat Denmark.... hHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I think our good fortune is down to having watched game 2 and 3 on my laptop with SBS, not German TV and wearing the same kit as the team on the pitch. 2 from 2 so far. We all have our superstitions.

That fucked nanny state I live in is pathetic. Some copper would have said if we have people in town a bottle might get broken. Better lock it all down.

Fond memories make kits better.

My head says we are going to get smashed, 5-0 or something like that. They are just too good.
But my heart is hoping that we can do it, somehow we can do it.
It does seem unlikely we can start with the same eleven as last game but there is no way of knowing who needs to be replaced and who is ready to go.

Our task is Argentina. They have less rest than us. We're not even in the same half of the knockouts as England. This isn't the time to be worried about everybody else's shit.

+x+x+xCan I ask why England gets a longer turnaround than us? What the hell?! We don't play England. Yes I know but why do they get an extra days rest for their R16 match? We seem to be the only match that has a 3 day turn around, everyone else will be 4 days (correct me if I’m wrong).
I think the way it balances out eventually is that if we make the final, we get an extra days rest compared to the winner from the other bracket, but there’s 2 games to get there before that and our opponents would have had the proper rest, our squad probably really could use the extra day, and even theoretically if we beat Arg and winner of Netherlands/USA, our opponent in the semi will have 4 hrs more rest between the quarters and the semi.
This really is the worst knockout game to be drawn in. Whoever wins the game is up against it to get to the final really.
EDIT - sorry correction, there must be another knockout game that also has a 3 day turn around. Same side of the bracket as us, so Japan/Croatia and Netherlands/USA theoretically have an advantage to get to the semi final. Netherlands/USA being in group a/B mean that they only had a week to start preparing before the first games, I guess that means theoretically Group E is the best group to be in to be in the best condition for the final? (I.E. a week and a half to prepare for the first game, and an extra days rest over the other finalist if you win your semi final match

Sir Alex Ferguson said that, in the 2009 Champion's League Final, if he had started Park Ji-Sung and told him to stick to Leo Messi like glue, he reckons Man Utd would have won.
We don't have Park Ji-Sung. Who's our player whose attributes are most similar to the great man?

It’s not impossible but Argentina scored 13 less goals than Brazil in the qualifiers which suggests pragmatism. I hope for a closer game, this is Australia’s biggest game and many will watch us, I want us to put on a show.

Saudi beat them.
Saudi had a spell for 15 minutes in the second, where they were right on top. They scored whilst in that short period of domination.
I hope Argentina are too knackered to Squeeze us like Denmark did.
Hopefully, the clinical finishing of our new potent strike force of Goodwin, Duke and Leckie, manifests again! The World Cup seems to have improved their finishing qualities.
