4:1 at HT. Insanely brilliant! With Iran leading Vietnam 1:0 at HT too. Still trying to get H2H around my head when 3 teams finish on equal points and have all beaten each other. Vietnam beat us, we beat Iran, say Iran beat Vietnam. We should be ok today with this lead. Some (probably Vietnamese internet guy) has updated the wiki table to live https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_AFC_U-20_Asian_Cup#Group_ATiebreaker 2 is GD amongst three teams in question so Aus GD should be negative 1 for Vietnam plus 1 for Iran to zero. Qatar can't be included for GD. Vietnam would be on 0 too 1:0 vs Aus and 0:1 vs Iran while Iran would be on 0 too 1:0 vs Vietnam and 2:3 vs Aus. So we go to goals scored. 3 for Australia vs Vietnam and Iran respectively. Vietnam only have 1 scored so far while Iran are on 3. I hope I've understood this. Vietnam currently 3rd on goals scored between the three tied teams in question. H2H is terrible!

So the game isn't on a 10 channel TV in Aus? But you can access 10 play via the app on the smart TV, right?

I don't think I've ever seen an Australian dribble around a keeper on the national stage. Onwards and upwards

5:1 Get in! Yet...If Iran win 3:1 I think we might be out on H2H by goals scored by the 3 tied teams in question? - Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
- Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
- Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
- If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
- Goal difference in all group matches;
- Goals scored in all group matches;
- Penalty shoot-out if only two teams were tied and they met in the last round of the group;

Still don't understand it. My hunch is Iran win 3:1 giving superior GD and outright first which then leaves us against Vietnam and we're 3rd due to H2H? Yet where would our H2H against Iran be validated?

My God we battered them. So table says Iran Plus 1. Australia 0 and minus 1 for Vietnam GD.
So the Vietnam H2H against us is waived as we all beat each other once and GD is the next tiebreaker.

Wasn't watching but reading Goodwin scored and created hell. Maybe he's just better against a tired defence? I've heard he has lethal instinct in front of goal.
Also, wtf is the aspire academy doing to serve up that?

A 9-1 belting of Qatar. I didn't see the whole game but we looked like we were fitter and in much better condition than they were. We were strong winning duels and carved them on the break with our passing.

You can see the large technical improvements that Australia has made in the last 10 years or so because the amount of talent coming through even at under 20 is very encouraging. When we joined the AFC were one of the weakest in terms of technique and touch I say its the polar opposite now and they can easily can match it with the best in the confederation on that front.
In terms of the games they are playing alot better than they were in the first game which is encouraging also, they seemed to have found a right balance in midfield as well I know he hasn't been in the mentioned in the same lines as others but Donnell has played very well as the No.6, not only has sound ball winning capabilities but has the ability to progress the ball forward the third goal was all down to him.
Also they are creating better goal scoring even on general play which they couldn't do against a stubborn Vietnam but also look dangerous in counter attacks too, it shows the benefit of playing more games together. Uzbekistan will be a hard game given they are the host nation and plus its a sudden death game too so they will try and frustrate Australia, however I dont get why they finished second when they have a better head to head on wins and on goal difference than Iran its also quite a common theme around the world to read teams on goal scored and wins so this is quite strange from the AFC.
Either way now, 1 game to win to qualify for the u20 World Cup!

Donnell looked fantastic at defensive midfield. It’s a shame Perth don’t play him more often.

Qatar were the pot 1 seed for our group....
We get to play at the wonderful Milliy stadium in Tashkent against the host nation. Holds 34k and they've had over 32k for their group games so this will be an epic.

Got to be careful as we've had players like Buhagiar, Gameiro and Dylan Ryan look good at youth level and never come through for the national team but it's an exciting bunch. I just want to qualify and hopefully we could call up Mo Toure who is back and scoring in France. I personally would like Garang Kuol to be picked if we make it.
