Ok but on the other hand, he hasn't played the full 90 minutes in a competetive hit out in 18 months (and just once in a pre season kick around).

Doesn't worry me that he isn't playing 90 mins every game.
I've been very impressed with Arzani this season in many Vic games. I've always loved flashy players.
We need his creativity and flair in the national team.

Arzani under Popa is a much better all round team player now. He is 1 of the best scoring chance creators in AL Not many. He struts around like a peacock. There are better options available. In the last game he created at least 4 clear opportunities for someone to run onto and score - one of them a real one on one chance after dribbling with real skill through defenders and spotting a pass to a running player through the lines with fantastic vision and application. I agree he comes across as a peacock, but there is a reason peacocks behave like they do. They have something to show off ;) There are few options close to his ability to cut through opposition players and I can't think of anyone who can do it consistently. Not particularly liking the player I can still see what a positive impact he has against stacked defences, the vision and skills he possesses, and how much he benefits Victory and the league. If you can look past the annoying shit you might find him worth watching now.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Sorry, but you are completely wrong, Lurker. Just watched the second half of the Victory v Western United game last night from the point Arzani came on as a sub. Without counting them, he had 2 assists for the 2 Victory goals scored. He also played 3- 4 more potential assists or killer passes/crosses, which other players fluffed at goal attempts, or didn't anticipate them quickly enough. When a team is dominating possession, Arzani is exactly the player any team, including the Socceroos, needs to break down tight defences. If Arzani receives with his body shape facing forwards with his right foot/right side of the body, he is dynamite. He needs very little time and space on the right foot/right side of the body to be effective. He is also so adept at beating the first defender, the other team often needs to commit 2- 3 players to mark him. This creates other free players. Moreover in the Western United fixture, he had 2 shots which went close to scoring. Arzani was a menace at the 2018 WC in Russia against World Cup winning France, and against Peru and Denmark. Arzani has the X factor and is a classy ball player, who is also adept at playing on both flanks. In his current form we could have done with him at the Asian Cup. If another team is dominating, like South K did against the Socceroos, it may be more prudent to have a Leckie, Goodwin, Boyle, Metcalfe, McGree, even Bos type player, who are effective when the other team has the ball. Arzani has improved this facet of his play, but isn't as effective as the aforementioned. With the ball at his feet, he is better than any of them, with the possible exception of Bos, albeit Azani is more effective in tight spaces at ball carrying and dribbling.

He's one of the most creative attacking minded players we have in Australian football and still some people on here have an angle to criticise him? It seems like some Australian football fans hate creative players period. Enjoy your Olympic runners/rugby players then because thats what we usually historically develop in this country...

I thought we lacked wide attacking options at the AC. Arzani should definitely be considered.

Arzani is having the best season of his career, there is no question about that. That doesn't mean that he should walk into the national team either. For me, he was two very glaring weaknesses. He lacks final product and he is inconsistent.
That's why I think Goodwin, Leckie (short term), Tilio, Silvera, McGree and Mabil (who has been playing very well in Switzerland before getting injured) are better options at present.

Just cause he doesn't play in Europe doesn't mean he can't be an important part of the national team.
Look at someone like Craig Goodwin. Never made it into the big leagues in Europe. In the A League for the vast majority of his career. Yet he's been amazing for the national team against almost every team we face. Looking a threat to assist or score almost every time he takes the pitch.
Leckie and Kruse have been great servants for the national team in their own ways. They made it both to the Bundesliga and were able to establish themselves in a top league. Yet for the Socceroo's while giving us great avenues in many ways, were really really really really not clinical at all lol.
I would take Craig Goodwin of the last couple years and start him ahead of prime Kruse and Leckie anyday for the national team.
Just because a player has a great career and plays at a higher level. Doesn't mean that their skills will naturally fall into place for the national team. Tom Rogic another example. Fantastic for Celtic in a good league and playing champions league football. For the Socceroos he was mostly invisible in most games he played, literally.
A League players can do a great job for our team and especially if they are playing well and in great form, should be given consideration to start over players who are playing at a higher level but form is not so great.

I believe Popovic has improved his tank a little and with that he has found more consistency. Although I believe stamina will never be a Arzani strength his ability to beat a man and vision to pick a pass is on another level.

Arzani at least can take opponents on and create something as we all have seen that we lack in the NT so I can forgive his lack of finishing........

Yeah he could've had 4/5 assists Tuesday night alone, if his teammates had timed their runs etc. He could easily have had double digit assists this season. His ability to beat a defender one on one, play the perfect through ball, dribbling ability, cut backs, crosses etc etc make him a must pick against Lebanon. I said it before the Asian Cup, he needed to be picked as he's a game changer who can make things happen like no-one else in Australian football at the moment. I'm trying not to go over the top, but he's just next level this season & probably better than he was pre 2018 WC.
