Arisa wins gold in skating, youngest medalist for australia ever
Nailed the third run
The commentators for skating have been hilarious. My favourite moment
"I know that looked easy" (right after they did a trick i could never do) "but its a bit like eating cereal with your weaker hand. Its harder than it looks!"

Serbia win in OT. Australia had a 3 point lead and the ball and just kept stuffing simple stuff.

Mills levels with 1.8 sec to go and it's into OT.

Serbia lead by 2 with 9 sec to go. It's just so annoying to have led by that much and to allow the opponent back into it. Australia will get a chance and maybe the clock will stop again.

Serbia now lead by 2. FFS these teams are frustrating and overhyped.

Boomers coming out hard with 18 point lead. A buffer but got to be wary.

yep agree johns, being inbt he shadow of a sibling can really effect you till you die. Really happy for her the plaents aligned each of her runs kudos on her reading the currents and flow and importantly her competitors style in the final. The Fox fam must be on such a high and forever in the records. 100M finale, I always find it such a show, yes its the so called pinnicale event of the games so they say. Mericans showmanship is too much for my liking but sometimes they talk the talk. That photo finish you'd be damn pissed being the Jamaican eh. Lyles well not my type of persona but kudos winning and on the back sometime ago calling out the NBA loling saying how can it be called a World Championship haha https://www.sportingnews.com/us/olympics/news/noah-lyles-nba-world-champion-controversy-usa-track/5bf95c5653fca520ee10f62aIn an August 2023 press conference at the end of the World Championships in Budapest, Lyles criticized the NBA's notion of labeling its title winners as world champions. "You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have 'world champion' on their head," he said. "World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the U.S. at times, but that ain't the world...We are the world."

Get in! Noemie Fox wins gold. What an effort and being in her sister's shadow gets her own massive moment. The way she used the current to save energy while the others struggled.
Bit of luck on the last reverse red where the British nudged her right in the spot to see her turn and go forth and then the British was like a cat in a bathtub trying to get composed .

Great effort by Noemie Fox to make the Kayak cross final. Both Australian men crash out. It's just top 2 each race each round to a final 4 so really challenging stuff. Surprised no one has whacked another Kayaker due to frustration when they crash and hinder progress.

+xWomen's hockey eliminated to China. FFS they cruise to win the group and China were 4th in their group. Apparently a very controversial VAR call was made. Frustrating and hockey needs a review after these eliminations. Assuming it is the decision I think - the ball clearly bounced off the Chinese player's thigh in the lead up which should have seen the goal it disallowed. VAR decided they could not definitively say it hit the leg rather than 'just missing' when my eyes saw it hit and deflect clearly. But the Chinese team were playing much better hockey and we looked to be playing like the Socceroos - across the back and down the sides then back round again and largely ignoring the centre. We kept trying to turn 1 on 3 into a winning situation up the wing and got stifled and turned the ball over almost every time we got it. We also did not show any passion or urgency in our play until the end of the 4th quarter when it was too late. Looked like the team played within themselves expecting a result when they still had to earn it. Huge shame for the players after doing so much better in previous games. We looked strangely disjointed.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Australian teams lack the ticker they used to have. A similar thing happened with the 3x3 basketball. A cultural shift seems to have happened in the past decade.

For shits and gigs - the most recent 'points' tally (3x Gold, 2x Silver, 1x Bronze) - all countries over 20 points are listed (which is the top 11) | Country | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Points | | USA | 19 | 26 | 26 | 135 | | China | 19 | 15 | 11 | 98 | | France | 12 | 14 | 18 | 82 | | GB | 10 | 12 | 15 | 69 | | Australia | 12 | 11 | 8 | 66 | | Korea | 10 | 7 | 7 | 51 | | Japan | 9 | 5 | 10 | 47 | | Italy | 7 | 10 | 5 | 46 | | Netherlands | 6 | 5 | 4 | 32 | | Canada | 5 | 4 | 8 | 31 | | Germany | 5 | 5 | 2 | 27 | For comparison, the actual top 11 (sorted by most golds, then silvers, then bronze) | Country | Gold | Silver | Bronze | | USA | 19 | 26 | 26 | | China | 19 | 15 | 11 | | France | 12 | 14 | 18 | | Australia | 12 | 11 | 8 | | GB | 10 | 12 | 15 | | Korea | 10 | 7 | 7 | | Japan | 9 | 5 | 10 | | Italy | 7 | 10 | 5 | | Netherlands | 6 | 5 | 4 | | Germany | 5 | 5 | 2 | | Canada | 5 | 4 | 8 |

Men's hockey out to Netherlands. Frustrating after two somewhat surprising results with India eliminating GB but the bigger shock was Spain beating Belgium.
Silver in women's 50m free. Happy for the Swede who has been a true professional and is nearing the end of her career. Close run things across so many races. The Americans still got 28 which is a bit under recent totals. Interestingly, for those who like numbers, 19 countries won a swimming medal which is the typical total or 21 at other recent games. The non USA/Aus Gold could was 20 which is fairly close to recent games too. The biggest difference was the number of silvers.
I think I've cracked it. The Russian absence is where the Americans and others got a lot of the podium.
Women's high jump on with 2 top chances.

USA smash the WR to secure the most golds. Strauch for Australian breaststroke was a deadly decision. She's just so slow. Ramsay should've been chosen. McKeown showing fatigue with a lower back. I think they all crumbled under the pressure knowing history was at stake. Looked rushed in the water.

They'll be added to the official tally but the open water events feel different to the pool. They're coming up in 2 days.
Last time USA didn't top the gold count was 88 pipped by East Germany.
Absolute showdown now and there can't be a better set of Australian swimmers to attempt history.

Showdown in final race of meet. Australia and USA tied on 7 golds. Women's medley to end where Australia have a great chance but the Americans will be so motivated to prevent 2nd place.
Australia men's medley utter garbage finishing 6th. China win in with beef burher hormone bloke at the end. Our backstroke and butterfly way off the pace. Yong a decent breaststroke prospect.

Australia women's waterpolo winning their group awaiting 4th placed opponent from the other group. Semi against Hungary or USA which will be very tough.
The men have shocked everyone by finishing 2nd in their group. If the tables are accurate, a very tough game against Greece awaits who were 3rd in their group.

+x+x+xGermany beat Canada on penalties and Brazil beat France in a bit of an upset. There was meant to be a European dominance coming in womens football, both Spain and Germany pretty lucky to go through. Semi's are Germany v USA and Spain v Brazil. No shame then in the Matildas losing to Germany and USA. If we are just going there to make up the numbers, then yeah it was fine. But we were battered by Germany, and the USA had already qualified with nothing to play for still looked classes above until stoppage time when we got desperate. You’re obviously getting caught up in the Channel 9 hype.

We don't progress by going, "oh, well then, if the others didn't do it then we are fine" Reality, that’s what we should be looking at.

Spain beat Colombia on pens.
Mckeon with a surprise bronze on medley having finished 4th but for the American to have made an illegal turn and be disqualified.
Australia bronze in mixed relay. Somewhat stuffed it but McKeon would been the butterfly swimmer allowing Chalmers to do freestyle but the medley final didn't allow enough time to do both.

Spain 97th min equaliser against Colombia in the womens football quarter final. Would have been a massive upset. Going extra time now so could still be. USA beat Japan with Rodman scoring the only goal in extra time earlier.
