It's a shame we can only emulate this by getting the likes of Boyle and Fornaroli.

Fun video
Probably a controversial view, but i dont see that as bad
I wouldnt want my national team dominated by naturalized players tho
Souttar seems to have a lot of passion for the jersey so gets a pass

Maybe boyle gets a pass too, even tho he has had an injury related form slump

+xMaybe boyle gets a pass too, even tho he has had an injury related form slump I think you could find a born and or raised Australian player that is of his quality. Souttar is very good Il give him that.

I've often wondered how many players in England have Aussie eligibility through family connections. We've seen it a lot with Scottish players (Boyle/Souttar/Cummings) but not English players. That strikes me as odd. There's a lot of immigration between the two countries. I reckon there would be quite a few if you dug them up.

Some young ones born in England and who've stayed there are starting to get noticed such as Francois and Watts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Australia_men%27s_international_soccer_players_born_outside_Australia

Might work out for Australia in 20/30 years considering most people 20-30 are moving away from Aus.
Australians moving to Spain, Brits moving to Australia.

Interesting read! Thanks for posting MCG. Qatar basically has a team of mercenaries playing. I've never been happy with Fornaroli playing, with no Aussie heritage but given the loss of Aussies, I'm pleased Souttar and Boyle have donned the green and gold. Not sure Geraint Jones is good enough? Indonesia have a diaspora of players with tenuous Indo heritage - many of who struggled with the Indo heat and humidity hen they played us.

Not that I could find, btw I'm using the football manager 24 database and looking at players with Australia as their 2nd nationality.

i guess you would need to look at FM2018 to check Souttar's status?
Reason Im curious is because if his aussie status isn't listed thats reassuring that there are probably a zillion others with aussie eligibility not listed...

I remember playing as Stoke (maybe even 2017?) and seeing this lanky 51 rated centre back without a photo. After an update, Australia was the nationality. Even then it felt like he wasn't even a real person and it was tough to find details I thought he was just a CPU. Thing is, even at 51, the towering headers and occasional long ball, I thought this name is one to watch. Probably my favourite national team player nowadays.

One from recent years I would have loved to see was Georgie Samaras Samaras was eligible to play for the Australian national team. His father, Ioannis, was born in Melbourne, but moved to Greece at the age of 13, and had a successful football career, playing for OFI, Panathinaikos, and Greece. [155] Additionally, his grandfather (also Georgios) was one of the founding members of South Melbourne FC. Although Samaras considered playing for Australia, he was never approached by Football Federation Australia and chose to play for the country of his birth. [156]

Would we have been able to lure Christian Vieri away from the Italian national team? What would it have 'cost'?

+x Would we have been able to lure Christian Vieri away from the Italian national team? What would it have 'cost'? The only "cost" would have been for the whole of the Australian football community buying into support of the local professional game from 1977 onwards and seeing past their assimilationist racial xenophobic instincts.....
