These are cross-posted from another forum, so until I'm caught up, I'm just naming them update 1 etc.
Update 1 finished pre-season, have the 2nd leg of the Champions Cup vs Spartak (first leg 1-0 our way), first things first, terminated pretty much 80% of the staff, bringing in the highest quality coaches, youth managers, scouts and physios I could get, have 7 stars in everything but Ball Control and Set Pieces (6 stars), an awesome Youth Team coach, 4 Physios with 19 or 20 for physio, and 6 high quality scouts. Only have 2 crap scouts I can't get rid of. All up spent about 3 million on the new staff. Might need a new Assistant Manager, the current one is a bit dodge.
Player-wise, I sold Joaquin (26yo AMR) to Arsenal for 17m, and Miguel (27yo wing back) to Inter for 14m to get some working capital. I didn't really see Miguel being worth all that much to me, and the 2 sales were more than enough to get me through pre-season.
Loan wise, brought in Chris Eagles from United and Badara Sene from Sochaux for midfield cover. Bought Lloris, probably over-paid for him (11.25m up front, 6 over a year or 2, and 45% on-sale), but not some of the stupidly high prices I'd seen later on in the game for keepers. Bought Bruce Djite (and sent him on loan) because I could, and tried to buy Pique, but no dice.
***************** Update 2 Into the group stage. Morientes 89th minute Away Goals winner 3 minutes after coming on Manchester United, Lazio, Anderlecht.
Spartak scored 3 goals in 5 minutes after half-time
***************
Update 3
Probably going out of the Champions League. First 3 games saw united/lazio/us all on 7 points. Drew to ****ing Anderlecht 1-1, stupid 90th minute long bomb after I spent the previous 60 minutes trying to score a 2nd. At least they missed a penalty 2 minutes later.
Played United away, lost 3-1, had my DM sent off for 2 yellows after 30 minutes (2nd was a major joke, we had 4 other players back against 2, it was still inside their half, for a "shirt pull". What kind of ref gives a 2nd yellow for a shirt pull 30 minutes into a champions league match for a foul inside the other teams half). Morienties scored just before half-time on the break.
Then they scored 3.
Got two reports about the presumed hairdryer treatment Fergie gave at half-time. Will have 3 supsended for the final game vs Lazio, and no villa. Anderlecht providing a ray of hope by pulling back a draw with another 90th minute equaliser) leaving me a point behind.
4th in the League (7w, 2d, 4l).
Transfer news: Arranged for a few of the old midfielders to go out for a few million each. Also brought in Gael Etock from Barca for 4.3, and Toni Kroos from Bayern for 14.75.
I've also released Eagles from the loan. I am simply sick of hearing about how poor the free, loan signing was every ****ing month by the board. ********************
Update 4 Well, that's a load of bullshit. Go 3-1 ahead (at home) in the final game (vs lazio), then they get a 2nd with the Jumping 11, Heading 15 beats the keeper and scores. Then comes the typical bullshit FM injury time penalty, at a corner, everyone including the lazio keeper up for it, somehow the ref spots a "shirt pull", gives the penalty and we draw and go out, commentary says it looked dubious.
The "controversy" news item after the match, is should Lazio have been given a penalty 10 minutes before the one that won them the match. Hunk.Of.Shit
****************
Update 5 Half-Way through the season, in 3rd, miles behind Real and Barca, only just ahead of Sevilla, Zaragoza. Upcoming games include Uefa Cup 1st KO and Spanish Cup Semi vs Barca.
Transfer wise out went, Ruben Baraja, Edu, David Albeda, Hedwiges and Marchena for about 16 million. In came Abdou Razack Traore for 3 mil and Ben Arfa for 17m.
GK: Lloris/Hildebrand
DR: Alexis Ruano DC: Caniera/ Helbuera/ Albiol DL: Traore/ Moretti
D/MC: Albiol/ Sunny/ Banega
AML: Vincente Gullen/ Juan Mata AMC: Silva/ Kroos AMR: Arizmendi/ Angulo With Arfa floating about just new to club.
ST: Villa/ Morientes/ Ziglic

Quote:on football manager 08 i used the modifier and i want to change my teams stats bak 1) you're a muppet for not saving it as a seperate database. 2) You can just download the original databases and various changed databases from the FM forums at http://www.sigames.comIntersting team you've got there mack...Shouldn't have really sold Joaquin though...Valencia are almost unstoppable with: -------Villa--------- Vicente--silva---Joaquin ----Albiol----Banega---- Also, Aaron Niguez is one that you should promote from your youth team *taps nose*

I created 11 player who were all around 50-60 and inserted them all at Excelsior (i liked the name lol) and played 10 consecutive seasons there. The keeper is now 97, and the outfielders range from 92 to 85
I also have bought every over 90 outfielder to the club, just warming the bench. hehe
this is in fifa 08 btw.

Finally found some success in my long career save (up to 2030). Took over Inter 2 years ago, and since then have won everything there is to win, except the Italian Cup. Had an awesome year in the Serie A last year, didn't lose a game, and only conceded 26 goals. That said, only won by a point, Roma were just as good. The only game they lost was to us.
Also, for those who might have been interested, The 2 new A-League teams will not be in FM09.

it arrived today !!!!! been playing the last couple of hours with it. The be a pro season mode is brilliant, haven't got online with it yet. Servers don't seem to be up, or are still empty. So many little changes to the gameplay, much more depth now and so far ahead of the ps2 version or Pro Evo. No doubts at all now, as much as i miss the PES days, fifa 09 completely destroys it.

So I take it you've played Pro Evo 09, had a chance to go through all the gameplay and features in that too, thus being able to make that judgment?

Has Fifa fixed their transfer system yet? There's something wrong when I, as Melbourne Victory, was able to sign Gerrard, Ballack, Inzaghi, and others only 2/3 years into the game. I distinctly remember trying to sign someone, but they knocked me back because the A-League was too low a standard for them. Fair enough, until I offered them an extra 5k a week, and they couldn't sign fast enough.

I dunno if i'll have the budget for big signings, be spending up on coaching upgrades to build my squad players. Be great if they could get some j-league on there, already has k-league... just needs a few more for ACL. The Euro leagues are great with the full seasons... European and cups on top of domestic leagues.

Whats Ronaldo rated? And Torres? Top 5 overall player ratings and schocks, who you thought would be higher. Also highest A-league player and highest australian player. I want this on my desk by 9am.

European and cups on top of domestic leagues. I did enjoy playing through the seasons in Europe, with the proper competitions and etc. But i enjoy the challenge that PES presents more. In Fifa, I got bored because I was constantly winning, I'd built up my team, there was basically nothing that could stop me. Hell, I'd perfected the art of scoring straight from a kick off, I could do it probably 6/7 times out of 10. Thats impossible in PES. you constantly have to be on the ball, thinking about what you're doing, how you're going to get through the defence to score. And that's why I'll be sticking with PES09. But in the end, its each unto their own. You'll enjoy playing FIFA, I'll enjoy playing PES, in the end that's all that matters.
