The best solution is probably to stick with 4-2-3-1 (I can't believe I just said that) and have Kennedy setting the defensive line, have Bresciano, Cahill and Holman in just behind (from L-R), Holman running straight at Vidic and exposing him to the pace and pressure, balls not to Kennedy's head, but to his feet becasue Vidic will crush us aerially. Use Kennedy to lay the ball off one-touch to Bresc, Cahill or Holman as they move through, keep the pressure on Vidic and you could well get him sent off as we know he gets flustered.

Worth noting that he struggled a little against Maierhofer as well during the season. So I don't know that he'll necessarily dominate against the height.

Shame Spiranovic hasn't developed as much as expected,but there is plenty of time and he will come through. Quality,he just needs a decent club who will play him

In the past Beauchamp has often looked like a deer in the headlights in the centre of defense when playing for Australia. He seemed like he felt totally out of his depth, had poor decision making and made loads of mistakes.

But the Beauchamp I saw play in the leadup games to this world cup was a different player, confident, assured, making the right decisions and playing well. I think he's finally turned the corner and is starting to live up to his potential. I think he'll do a good job for us replacing Moore.

And defending against someone isn't all about being taller, a lot of it is about positioning. If you can get your positioning right you can still beat the taller player to the header and the only way he can get to it is to foul you.

Pims selction dilemma is not at the back Beauchamp is a certain starter, if he doesn't play then it is typical Pim no clue Verbeek tactics, But up front is where his dilemma is, play an out of form Cahill and play an inform Holman up front to run around like a headless chook or play both with Rukavytsya up front to play with a front three who have speed to burn against a big slow Serbian defence, this would result in dropping a defensive midfielder which would be Culina .
I know some will call for Kennedy for his height, but in all honesty Vidic will have a field with him, but Vidic does not like guys who are quick really quick.

Yes, John I made a sweeping statement which clearly wasn't correct. But he has made mistakes and let the team down, he was arguably at fault for the goal against Japan in the asian cup (since this is what you choose to site as evidence of his apparent quality).

@Afroman the style of play you've suggested will be the way to go against Serbia but Beauchamp is the best direct replacement for Moore. Milligan gives away 13cm to Beauchamp and 24cm to Zigic, plus I still have unkind rememberances of Milligan's disaster at centre-back for Sydney against Perth a few years ago.#-o Beauchamp has already partnered Neill in the lead up to the World Cup so there should be a shorter integration time for him. I just feel there are too may positives to having Beauchamp play over Milligan.

Unless you want to put Schwarzer or Kennedy on him #-o You've got to cut off the supply to him down the wings, close down with our fullbacks and make sure that Valeri ensures Stankovic's passes don't find a way through. You've got to force Serbia into playing a narrow game and stop them from getting aerial balls onto Zigic's head, where they would hurt us the most.

How is there a questiom about this? Beauchamp is a much better defender and is suited to play against serbia coz of his height. Milligan is a spastic and the most overated defender we have.
