Unbelievable drama at the end of that game. You have to feel for Gyan though.
He will be having nightmares about that for years.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Uruguay Defeat Ghana On Penalties?
URUGUAY defeated Ghana 4-2 on penalties to set up a World Cup semi-final against Holland. The teams were level at 1-1 after extra-time.

Have your say.

Yes, poor old Gyan. I hope that when his captain was talking to him after the game he said "At least you scored your penalty during the shootout, unlike me".

The fact is Ghana should have been given a goal. Shouldn't have to take the penalty for clear cut intentional handball for a ball which was going to be a goal. This is clear cut cheating, 3 arms in the air trying to stop the ball. Can't understand how this is rewarded, there is always going to be the chance of missing the penalty. Red card as well as goal awarded.

As someone who has played other football codes, this is what lets football down, as does the penalty box and offside rule which can be dubious at the best of times.

By your logic, Ghana shouldn't have had to take a penalty against Australia either then for Harry Kewell's handball.

"bummer for Ghana, goes to show how far the Aussies could have gone."

That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Had the Socceroos got through instead of Ghana, the US would have knocked us out in the round of 16.

hey yatagarasu = way bad tat!!
Good riddance to Ghana I say!!They were simply the most over rated team ever to make it to the quarters, I feel for the Socceroos and Serbia and other WC finalists who were much better than these over rated wankers!!

Correct! But there is a bit of difference to the handballs. I suggest Harrys wasn't intentional, therefore should only get a yellow.

@ Cheers, if a foul is called for handball then the referee has declared it intentional.

In Harry's case, it could have only ever been play on (if it was not intentional) or a penalty (for the foul in side the penalty box) and a red card (for deliberately stopping a goal with your hand on the goal line).

They are the correct rules. It could never been a yellow card.

The problem with the rules is, however, that if it hit Harry's arm and deflected into the goals and ref plays advantage, then it is only a yellow cause he has not called the foul for the handball.

Football can be a very cruel game!!!
It was sad that clearly much better side (Ghana) lost game and in my opinion a deliberate handball on goal line should have been given a goal?

I don't know what was worse, seeing Suarez using his hand to cheat Ghana of a certain goal or seeing him celebrate like a petulant child when Gyan missed the penalty. He must feel like a real "hero".

Unbeleiveable! God was on our side, no doubt about that.

This has to be one of the most dramatic, incredible finishes to a football match I have ever seen in my life. When Suarez was sent off, I thought that was it. They were going to score and that was going to be the end, Uruguay were going to be knocked out.

BUT, Gyan missed! I knew then, we were destined to win the match. It was our divine right to make it to the semi-final.... [-o<

Now though, a semi final against the Dutch, wothout Suarez and Fucile and maybe even Lugano will be extremely difficult.

ghana deserved to lose. if you cant aim a shot from 6 yards (which they clearly can't, as theyve hit 3 outfield players on the line in the entire tournament) then you don't deserve to score. im tired of this team. they can't shoot.

so ironic. they can only score from penalties, yet they can't score when it matters. glad to see them out.

xfirestormx...i think u just showed how big of a dud u are, for starters the penalty spot is 13 yeards out not 6, secondly what exactly did ghana do to you for u to be 'tired' of them?? face the facts they deserved to progress, however uruguay did play well in patches. Suarez did what he had to though it was THE MOST UNSPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIOUR i think i've ever witnessed on a football pitch.

Look, in all honesty he would have had hardly any time at all to think about what he was going to do.
Imagine you were in the quarter finals, and in the 120th minute the ball was going in the back of the net, you would do whatever possible to keep it out wouldn't you? Suarez did not have 10 minutes to decide if he was going to leave it, or try and stop it anyway he could. It was a split decision, some may call him a cheat but what was he meant to do...

Bye bye Ghana =) Gyan will be having nightmares about Suarez for a while. The best team does not always triumph, something the socceroos found out against the italians in 2006. Being south american very happy Uruguay won and hoping for a major upset against Holland.

Cheating? He handballed and paid the penalty, Suarez will now miss the semi and very sure the GF or 3rd.4th playoff. He gambled paid the penalty and Ghana failed to take advantage. SImple as that.

Still think it should have been the socceroos not Ghana to have made it this far.

I wonder if Suarez will cop the same shit as Henry.

Henry> Handball that put France through, dumped Ireland.

Suarez> Handball that put Uruguay through, dumped Ghana.

Opposite ends of the field, same result.

You CAN NOT compare Suarez's handball to Henry's.

Henry's was at the opposite end of the pitch, and it helped France make it to the World Cup, and also he got away with it.
Suarez's was defending, he couldn't do much else, and also he got a red card and Ghana was awarded a penalty.

If Ghana had scored the penalty, no-one would be complaining.
