-PB They see it as important to behave in line with community expectations. One of those is that the league is clean and drug free, hence the association with WADA and ASADA. If they were to ignore this ruling, the association would be dropped. Felt sorry for the players but then I read a number of them tried to cover it all up so I don't have as much sympathy. Pretty much, it's an issue of perception. Adhering to the WADA code is seen as adhering to minimum acceptable standards in sport that ensures the detection and removal of drug cheats. The AFL could tell them to get stuffed but there would be much more commercial interests at risk by doing that. The government for one would not be able to give any grants to a sports organisation that isn't seen to be doing enough on performance enhancing drugs.

Yep, government and corporate pressure are also factors.

I only feel sorry for the younger players at the club who obviously would've put faith in the coach/s, doctors and senior players that what they were doing was above board.

What pisses me of is hirdy fucking has the gall to say its an injustice. He has tarnished his reputation , just to get us into finals. He sold his soul, the hird name is synonymous with essendon and now the name is dirt

Yes initially I felt that way but the CAS report describes how the players tried to deny and cover up what had happened. Those that did that I don't have much sympathy for.

interestingly watching AFL footy classifieds on CH9 one of the panelist, damien barret ( ? ) ... mentioned , afl heirachy tried to manage this is in their own inner sactum .... but it backfired big time once WADA was involved ( he mentioned the big end of town ) also the other panelist, gary lyon, mentioned how the AFL dealt with tanking( is that cheating ? ) and if that was handled hypothetically by the world anti tanking commission, would of slammed the way the AFL did backroom deals..
in essence , it has made the AFL look very amateur....

As a crows supporter I was pretty dissatisfied with how they dealt with the Tippet fiasco. Then the tanking situation with Melbourne and finally Essendon. All about protecting their brand rather than integrity.

Protecting their brand rather than integrity is how Lance Armstrong got away with his cheating and it is how many more cheats get away with it. Messi, Ronaldo and the likes are just to big to fall unless something goes seriously wrong. They are probably all on something.

AFLPA supports drug cheats WADA and CAS convict drug cheats. Of course they are not happy to be part of the WADA code, their members might be subject to JUSTICE. Now Jobe Watson needs to be stripped of the Brownlow Medal he cheated to win.

All american sports dont follow wada . But they do have their drugs code. Asada if it wasnt so useless needs to be beefed up as letting essendon off shows how incompetent they are.

Tard News wrote:ASADA about to crack down hard on 5 more AFL clubs.
My source advises that the raw list is Melbourne, Geelong, Collingwood, Gold Coast and Carlton.
Also, AFL going hard to wipe out James Hird from its history books.
Watch this space. If those bolded sides are using performance enhancing drugs then fark me

It is not only winners who dope, it is not only the successful who dope. Some dope just to stay in a sport, some dope to be the best in the sport. The chances that no AFL teams has had players doping in the last is zero. It is almost certain there are dopers in the AFL, there are dopers in the A-league, there are dopers in the Big Bash, there are dopers in NRL, there are dopers in the NBL, WNBL, the netball.

Anti Muslim Banner at AFL gameNot that this has anything to do with AFL, its the plurality of 'Australians', society or community, those who go by the belief that "afl is great - if its their thing" its stuff like this which stirs discontent- although when Gerard Whately often says that the MCG is the Mecca of the sporting world: Mecca is Mecca, not the MCG Hence the banner...
