I would honestly be amazed if Buddy wasn't a massive fan of the gear, I know a player he lived with was big into it and have heard a lot of stories from reliable people who claim to have seen things which support the rumours. Personally I've seen a lot of blatant drug use from footballers on nights out (some very high profile) in the off season, recreational drug use in sport is a lot more common than people think and every list would have plenty of players who indulge.

That being said though, if drugs are a factor in Buddy's mental health issues anyone who thinks that makes it any less serious is a dead set fuckwit. I think people hear the drug rumours and assume this is a cover up for his drug use or a cop out for addiction when it's linked to mental health, this is highly ignorant of the ways in which drugs can exacerbate and/or trigger pre existing underlying mental health issues.

They see it as important to behave in line with community expectations. One of those is that the league is clean and drug free, hence the association with WADA and ASADA. If they were to ignore this ruling, the association would be dropped.

Felt sorry for the players but then I read a number of them tried to cover it all up so I don't have as much sympathy.

no idea
I suspect the players will get a lot of sympathy from the media (especially AFL associated journos ) and the code itself will probably milk this to gain more support

ultimately though, the impression was always the AFL trying to protect the brand ,but not the integrity of the game.... hence doing their own investigation and coming up with their own summary/punishment and of course PR....

WADA has thrown all that out the window it took them years to get Lance Armstrong but they got him
... .... expect AFL journos to attack WADA now and defend the code...

I think other codes should have the balls to go on the offensive.
The problem is performance enhancing drug use is so common amongst amateurs (plenty of gym junkies inject roids, for example) that I have a feeling the public don't care.
The statement from the Court of Arbitration stated the players were complicit and even covered up their drug use - that can be used against the journos who want to protect the sport. IIRC, Caroline Wilson is not sympathetic to the players and I expect she will go after them with a sense of vindication.

Well, the AFL do promote their code very hard, and hence I suspect they are in damage control now, purely because they see themselves as "Australias Code " and have promoted themselves to the public very much.
So the public would expect a clean and corrupt free code... which is now being seriously questioned.
They ( AFL ) have the connections and the resources to smooth this over....but it will take a hit in the short term

and they say FIFA is corrupt (* which it is*) but the AFL is no clean house either

Speaking of timely announcements, good to see ex VFA Footballer Senator Richard di Natale slip this little nugget in, on the Monday before the CAS ruling was handed out.

Whose interests are you REALLY repesentating, Senator?

'ASADA may face a Senate inquiry. This may also include whether, as Federal Greens leader Richard Di Natale has suggested, the AFL continues to follow the "strict letter" of the WADA code.

"We've got to establish the facts so we can get on and fix the workplace safety and sporting integrity issues that doping creates. A broader independent review of the anti-doping response in Australia would help us get there," Di Natale said on Monday.'

Typical Greens policy. Follow the evidence & science. Deal in reality.

Well done Nostradamus - burden of proof for this was 'comfortably satisfied'.

Anyone who was following the hearing could have told you this would be the outcome.
