An interesting statistic: this is the 19th year in a row that the Swans have had the highest average attendance across all clubs in all codes in Sydney.

Pet memberships  In all seriousness, I don't know that record memberships are necessarily a good thing. I mean look at GWS - the reported membership count goes up by ~2,500 and the average attendance drops by nearly 1,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Western_Sydney_Football_Club#Support If this sort of inverse relationship between (reported) membership numbers and the number of people who actually attend matches keeps going, pretty soon GWS will be trying not to get new members, otherwise there will be no-one at the games.

The A-League "riots" to which you refer usually took place at the games themselves, while this event took place at the station and although there victims were wearing Carlton memorabilia there is no evidence that the assailants were football-related. You're wrong, the bulk of those ratings are FTA, and they are AFL specific.

So for the first weeks of finals, 4 games, that's a total of 4.6 million in ratings (Fox plus FTA 5 city metro).

Also why did only 51k attend when Collingoowd have over 80k members? The third tier also looked rather empty for a Pies match. How much will the ALF loose due to the Power getting up?

Scott Burns would have to be a decent shout surely, from what I hear he's pretty highly rated as an assistant.
