So, everyone I speak to seems to think Flores is a done deal for us. If this is true, what formation do you guys think Arnie will play?

Considering Hutch and Monty are both automatic starters, it'll have to be a formation with 2 DMs. The only logical explanation considering our current crop of players is a 4-3-3 IMO:

-------------------------Pasfield-------------------
-----Morton--Sainsbury--Anderson--Rose--
------------Montgomery---Hutchinson----------
--------------------------Flores---------------------
--McGlinchey--------Simon--------Duke--

Now obviously Duke isn't a winger but, similar to Taggart at the Jets, he's too good to not start. Either that, or Fitzgerald starts and Duke is subbed on for him or Simon early on in the 60th minute or something :-k

4-2-2-2 with Simon + Duke upfront and Flores + McGlinchey CAMs could work, but would be very narrow...

Thoughts?
I don't know, he has Sterj and Fitzgerald Caceres to play with too, and that's before any more signings. Perhaps he will play Monti, Hutch and Caceres as a tight midfield and play three forward players, Flores could play in the middle as a sort of false 9.... :-"

I'd keep the same players. However Wee-Mac can play on the left and Simon was used out right before he left - so

Good point, although not ideal having him out wide IMO.

I like the fact we can still field a strong line-up after losing so many players. All we really need is a new GK (Not Reddy pls) and maybe a RB, as I'm not convinced Morton can handle a full season of first-choice RB just yet.

Another centre back? For cover at least if Sainsbury doesn't go.

When you look at these suggested formations , you start to realise that we are going to have difficulty fitting all our talent onto the park.
Hope it's true re Flores , can imagine how good a midfield with him and weemac and Fitzgerald somewhere in the mix.

There is talk of Matt Thompson. Covers CB/RB/DM.

Worried about Morton to be honest. Don't rate him. Maybe Griff to come in and get some game time.

With Flores, would like to see happen but I don't want it to take till final 2 games for him to have a go, ala Mile this past season.

I think he's an option but only if Sainsbury is sold.

My choice for 2013/14 if Flores signs with the 2012/13 Australian champions:

433:
--------------------------Pasfield---------------
--Ridge Mapu(CCMA)--Trent---------Zac(?)------Rose----
-----------Caceres-------Monty------McGlinchey-------
-----------------------Flores----------------------
--------------Dukey------------Macca------------

4231:
--------------------------Pasfield---------------
--Ridge Mapu(CCMA)--Trent---------Zac(?)------Rose----
----------------Caceres---------------Monty-----
------Dukey-----------------Flores---------McGlinchey-------------
----------------------------Macca------------

Due to the youth of some of our defenders I would like to get an experience CB for onfield guidance when needed .IMO, Zac or Trent aren't up to that stage yet.If Flores's transfer to CCM fails,I wouln't hesitate to play Caceres as AM.

Get real! Mapu? 5 minutes in the NSWPL and he will start for the Mariners!!! And club captain Hutchinson is going to be dumped for Caceres? Don't think so! Esp if we have young defenders - the Monty/ Hutch combo served the Mariners well last year. Caceres hardly set the world on fire.

I'm extremely real mate!As you're entitle to your opinion,I'm entitle to mine. It's obvious that you've not being to many games of CCMA.I've watched all games.Mapu = 5mins!!I think you're the one that needs a reality check mate.I've seen him played at least 10-12 games for the CCMA and that's why(IMO!!), I believe that he could be a better option than young Morton who I believe, needs to develop further before even being considered as a CCM A-league starting player.
As far as Hutch is concerned, I respect your input but I totally disagree with it.First of all, being the team(not the club)captain doesn't make you irreplaceable.Nobody mentioned the words "dumped for",you did.Is he such a great player that you Don't think so!he can be replaced by a better prospect like young Caceres or any other player out there? In my book,Caceres is 10 times a better footballer than Hutch.Don't involve Monty in this.I rate Monty. In fact, I believe that he should be the captain in 2013/14 due to his past(12 yrs in the EPL), experience, character and most important,he's better than Hutch in the football department. The combo served well? IMO,Monty served well.Hutch's performances were very average in most games.Caceres hardly set the world on fire? Unfair comment about a player that only played 160 mins in 3 games.Debut V scum(thrown into the deep end after Rogic left), v roar(did well) and v mh = mom and team of the week by Bozza. Not including ACL matches where GA praised his performances. You might disagree but he's our best prospect in the creativity aspect of the game.It has to do with how you interpret football.

OK, Arnie's in negotiations which is fantastic, most of the roster has been filled apart from alternative GK. What is the betting on a formation change? I'm basing this on the lack of cover for the CDM possies. Only Caceres to cover for Monty and Hutch. Go You Yellow may have hit the nail on the head with a reversion to a diamond, getting more of our forward options on the park. If this is the case would you pick Monty or Hutch for the CDM role. Personally I don't think either of them have enough presence to hold the centre by themselves in the way Griffiths did, but Sainsbury might, with the new Dutchman and Anderson behind him this could work very well. But then, what to do with Monty and Hutch?

Interestingly the CCM website only has 4 players listed as midfielders with Flores yet to be added, to fill 4 spots in the current formation. 6 are listed as forwards, all of whom would be vying for the 1 strikers position.

Totally agree on a new approach. With the strike power we have attacking attractive football should be the go.
Our defence looks as strong as with one Dutchman replacing the legend.
I am interested to see hoe Flores will be used.

Any latest PAX for today's game hosting Roar? Hopefully the crowd pushes a figure in the early teens, though that's pretty hopeful - Hopefully atleast 10k is drawn.

With the Mariners and their highly successful few seasons, leading the way in this league, hopefully this club can push crowds, a crowd average, around their own club record from S3 (12-13k), if not even surpassing it - medium term. The Mariners are arguably as good a team as they've ever been and perhaps even the most entertaining Mariners team in their history and honestly, what more could fans want!

Weather's a bit dodgy so that might affect the walk-ups.
Though I wouldn't knock back a 12-13k average, I would be more than happy to maintain the steady growth CCM have shown over the past few years, anything above 10500-11000 average should be seen as a good result (and would probably keep us 6th or 7th on the table). The bar always seems to be set higher for CCM than some other clubs for some reason.
