You don't really do much ball work in preseason so anything running basically??
I don't really do preseason training but I'd be quite interested to see what other people do.

We do a shitload of fitness work. Usually a 10 minute group jog to start with some exercises thrown in (e.g side steps, touch ground, jump for header, etc) Then a good stretch afterward.

Then different running drills like:
Set up cones on corners of park. Run in figure 8 pattern. Run 1 section, Walk 1 section, Run 1 section, Walk 1 section, etc. Usually do this twice before a break & stretch

Set up cones in 4 corners of the pitch for shuttle runs (e.g 3m, 5m, 10m & 15m apart) do 20 reps of 3m, 15 of 5m, 10 of 10m and 8 of 15m, walking to the next set of cones after completing each set. Do this twice.

Set up circuits and do them for 30 seconds each (star jumps, sit-ups, bourpees, knee-jumps, etc)

Do some close in ball work like 1 or 2 touch passing from 1m apart and gradually spread to 10m and gradually back to 1m while keeping the tempo up.

Our training for the last month has been pretty much all fitness training 2 nights a week as quite a few of us let ourselves go in the off season and we were training with quite a few rugby players because about 3/4 of the team were unavailable.
We would start with a few laps around the ground, which we measured out to be about 1.2km. When you got there you started pretty much and finish when you don't think you can do anymore. Most people did around 2 or 3, some 6 or 7.
After that we set up a shuttle run with cones every 5m for about 60m. We jogged to the first cone sprinted back, then jogged to second cone sprinted back, etc. We would repeat the sprints 3 times.
Using the same course we then jogged to the first cone did 10 sit ups ran back to the start did 10 push ups, then back to the second cone, etc. until we could go no more.

This week as most people from our started becoming available and we received our training kit we started working our ball skills into our fitness. We still do the run until you have to stop around the field to start training. When you stop you form into 2's about 5m apart and pass the first time between one another or have one chip the ball to the other to volley back until everyone has recovered from the run. Then we play a game of 2 touch possession until we have run each other into the ground.

I loathe pre-season training after what my cunt of a coach did in U17's. Said we'd start with a light 15km jog. Did that 3 days a week for about 4 weeks. We won the comp undefeated, basically by just running teams off the ground but still, that's just fucked

All that running is crap IMO.

Football training = Fitness training

You get more out of learning how to press as a team physically then if you run 10km as a team IMO.

This is because football is not about running distance its about

explosive action - recover time - explosive action etc

Obviously pre-season you start of slow and build it up.

If you want to build fitness than definitely do some beach running. Great for your calves and when you make the transition from sand to grass running on grass feels so much easier. Kinda of like how Baseball players swing two bats when they're warming up so that one bat feels easy.
