The only way there will be a 2nd tier competition in Australia is if the clubs themselves set it up - and even then, it will only happen if the FFA ALLOW them to do it. For me, it's the ideal scenario - all the responsibility and finances would be on the clubs themselves, and Australia would pick up a better development pool for the non-A-League talent. However, the Mirabella Cup/FFA Cup debacle leads one to believe that the FFA would allow it to happen for fear of us poor dumb football fans getting confused about which league is which, and due to the fear of sponsorship going to the newer, lesser competition than the new one. keepersball wrote:Macedoniaisgreek wrote:How weak is the A league getting wen they cant have there own junions Its called the National Youth League? Its early days, let it continue. The NYL is NOT a juniors set-up. It's a gathering of the best of the junior systems around Australia. The (majority of) A-League franchises do little to develop young players - that's left to the clubs that the FFA want little to do with.

BTW, i think you'll have Buckley's (no, not that Buckley) chance of a smell of interest in the telecasting of a second division football comp. You don't think that fox would cover it if the game was held at a normal A-league home ground say Jets youth vs. south coast, before a jets home game, with an early kick off at say 11 before an arvo game and match day Saturday started. no additional costs as they will already be setup for the HAL game. I doubt they would get any significant ratings, but I'd assume it might pull in some viewers to match day Saturday.

Don't see the issue with having the A2, being an expanded youth league, give the youth a chance to play more games, give the stronger state league clubs a chance to step up and provide a proving ground for any new club to start in. HAL teams must comply with the youth rules as they are now, everyone else can have a mix. Give the youth a chance to mix it with some older and more experienced players every now and then. Would also allow for the HAL to recruit from the A2 league.
Get maybe 1 game on early before the HAL starts on fox sports, make it part of match day Saturday's coverage, to extend live sports coverage for the day. Maybe have say a requirement for the youth team to play before the seniors for the Saturday game, and fox can just transmit that instead of having to go out to any grounds and add costs. Give SBS the rights to go and cover any games not involving HAL teams, to help keep foxsports happy.
No promotion or relegation, promotion would be by criteria & invitation. Give the lower clubs something to work to, whilst the HAL still controls its own destiny.

How weak is the A league getting wen they cant have there own junions and reply of a few players from various state leagues and buying lots of overseas rejects every year 1 in 5 are duds or 35 plus as long as we call the A league the pensioner league
Creation of the b League is neccesary fcuk this a league is gettting shitter and shiter every year You're a fucking stooge. How will the A-League standard get better with a B-League anyway. In recent years the standard of the league has tripled, and there have been a lot of very talented young juniors coming through the A-League, I can think of 10 off the top of my head. The standard of imports has got much better as well, and there haven't been many over 35's come into the league over the past few seasons. The Youth League is perfect for younger players who can't get a game, it's already there, make use of it, don't break the bank to risk forming a B-League which will be sure to fail.

why cant this topic just die? the FFA doesnt want to expand at the moment it just wants to consolidate its position becasue it is bleeding money and almost broke.
If you think that this is fianacially viable at the moment then you are kidding yourselves.

Oh and when I was at APIA Leichhardt Tigers in the NSW Premier League in 2009, they had changed their name to 'Sydney Tigers.' This was in order to be looked at for the 'B League' that was being created in the next year or two, and also to remove their ethnic background (Italians) and start over. Some were up in arms, but they name was changed. Funnily enough though, in 2010, once I had left, they had changed the name back to APIA Leichhardt Tigers. So much for the B League/APIA's involvement...

Two more youth league players off to England (Edwards') Semi-pro B league based on former NSL clubs could fill the gap. Bridge the New Football / Old soccer divide. Promotion / relegation could be left for 5 years or so down the track. Wollongong Wolves, NQ Fury, Canberra, Tassie, South Melb, Knights, Marconi, Olympic. would be enough to get it started.

I call fakes since there is no way in hell the FFA would be stupid enough to call it the "B-league".... oh wait.

Reminds me of the "US to bomb Iran within days" threads on Whirlpool. The last thread I found was from 2003

The rumour is strong every fucking 3-4 weeks this comes up. If it happens and it's successful then great but really at the moment it's all just the same bullshit we've heard over and over again. Until someone comes out with some 100% hard proof that this is actually being discussed then bullshit is all this will be.
