I never wanted Mulvey gone. Something clearly changed big time between the beginning of last season, and the beginning of this season. Beginning of last season there was a wind of change in the club. They wanted to do things properly. Give the manager the job to manage the team, and give the fans more of a say in the club. They had this philosophy and ideology.
The club won the title. Things then changed in the off season. Mulvey got given some shit players in the recruitment. Mulvey had to make do with what he had and it wasnt working. He clearly voiced his concerns, the board did not agree and Mulvey was out the door.
Then Thijsen comes in and does bugger all. Roar get in to the finals thanks to Perths eff up. Roar board still think things are all dandy, clearly not. You could always tell that something was not right at the top. There was this idea that the club was going to be more open and accessible, but it never was going to last long. And it was proven this season.
Now we are taking our time on a new coach, who wants to bet Thijsen gets the job. We also dont seem to have any idea of what is going on in terms of our structure and philosophy. We had the best philosophy in the land, but now it seems that that is all but semantics as the club seems to be focussed more on making money.

We had the best philosophy in the land, but now it seems that that is all but semantics as the club seems to be focussed more on making money. Not a chance Thijssen will get it. Tribulietx is a shoo-in. That said, Fong needs to appoint a MD before the head coach position is resolved. No point recruiting a coach and then a MD who cannot work with the coach. Not upset to see either Stead or Dobson gone. Hopefully Thijssen follows and we can stop the rot by bringing in some quality. The biggest loss in our non-playing staff in recent times has been Trimmers. We've never been able to replace him at the club. You can have the best coach in the world, but if you have absolute numpties assisting you, you're screwed. It's no secret that our recruiting has been poor - we've made terrible use of our visa players to be honest. I'll never understand why we don't contract in an AFC visa player in seasons where we know we will be competing in the ACL and having 5 non-AFC visa players is pointless. Look at any title winning side in recent times and the common theme is the 5 visa players form the core of the team. What point is it having Henrique (not visa now), Solorzano and Kaluderovic occupying 3 visa spots when the three almost NEVER play in the same XI?? We need to spread out our visa players throughout the squad, re-negotiate Broich's contract and get him under the cap and bring in a more influential visa marquee. Preferably a striker or #10. When's Broich eligible for citizenship, too? Hopefully we don't sit on our hands for as long as we did with Ricky's... Kaluderovic is a better striker than Solorzano (not by much), but given Solo is contracted for next season and AK is not, I wouldn't be adverse to seeing AK be punted and we bring in a CB and #10 with our two visa slots. There should be a good amount of money available in the wage budget for recruiting after seeing Miller go, Sarota go back to Europe, Stefanutto released and potentially one of Young or Theo to leave. Besides, If Victory can fit their star-studded squad under the cap, there's hope for everyone. The other point is retaining our quality Aussie players and being first in line when decent Aussies become available, ie. Franjic if his European dreams have been soured by his experience in Moscow. Why weren't we first in line for ex-players like Erik and Kosta (yes, Visa player) when they came back? Why weren't we knocking on the door of Burns, Rukavytsya, Valeri when we knew they were interested in coming back and we were lacing big time up front? We need to be looking ahead and in constant dialogue with player agents to get the inside run on decent Aussies and ex-HAL players in general who are looking for a return to the league. [rant]I'm jack of watching teams like Victory and SFC fill their first teams' with players who have made their names at other HAL clubs, including ours, and then those other clubs are forced to go back to the drawing board whilst unimaginative football departments profit. If nothing else, it makes the competition weaker. Berisha is the one that irks me the most. You can't tell me that Victory couldn't have found an equivalent striker to give a million bucks a season to if they'd have sent a scout overseas. If they'd have done that, Bes would have re-signed as a non-marquee visa player and we might still have a competitive side and MV would still have their 20-goal a season marquee striker. The only reason Bes left was for the money (and who can blame him?). I can't think of any other clubs aside from SFC and MV who have made a business out of stockpiling talent from other clubs either directly or otherwise. [/rant]

No doubt at the moment BR are in a mess.Everything that happened preseason to now proves that. Mulvey may have been hard done by to some extent. But he still was responsible for the preseason and there is nothing to prove he didn't have some say in recruiting. Everything that has happened reinforces the view that bad management leads to poor everything down below as well. BR this season was as disfunctional as NJ and probably CCM. The players deserve some credit for battling away despite the hurdles. The real danger Roar now face is losing their style/ philosophy.Because there is noone there now to continue the legacy.

The team didn't address weakness in the offseason. there was a lot of things small things wrong that can be ignored if your winning. the whole philosophy bs was just that. The people that understand mulvey being sacked are ones that are going he did a rubish job in maintaining the standard of the team. But at the end of season dobson and stead being management have to take a big part of the blame. they are gone, I think ill be happier if the bakeries are not indicating they want out. Otherwise i would be a little more hopeful in this situation of a big clean out. todays courier mail got an article the a local group is interested in taking over including a previous owner. we shall see. It is going to be tough to do anything until ownership and management is sorted. I wouldn't be signing any players.

Could you please point out the 7 games we lost in a row to lead us to struggling to make the top 4? 2. This supposed disharmony under Mulvey - yet the captain only wanted out immediately AFTER Mulvey was sacked? Does anyone seriously think that MV will sack Muscat next season if they were to lose 5 of their first 6 games? The sacking of a double-winning coach was an act of bastardry, the nature of the sacking was a farce, and the club isn't getting any membership money from me next season. I'll still be supporting the team each week of course.

He probably should have been given ten weeks. But does anyone seriously think anything would have changed?

He probably should have been given ten weeks. But does anyone seriously think anything would have changed? I included the FA cup loss to AU. The thing was this was mulvey 2nd off season, there was no changes, his fault? stead fault? both most likely. but the buck stops at the coach and winning the title the pressure is even greater defending it, losing those games at the start of the season by the way we where playing means he was out of his depth and was lazy in the off-season. Not addressing issues from last season that was still there. It sure wasn't looking like things where going to improve after 7 games so its probably better sooner rather than later to get to the magical 10 games. Smith would have been toying with the idea way before mulvey left. its never good look for the captain to go. he has responsibility to the player group and soon as things got tough he was out. which screams disharmony in the group. miller scenario had players complaining about being left out and lets not forget miller was one of mulvey players. But i agree that the management is rotten and glad they cleared out. But it surprised me how quickly it went from very good management for all the time with bakeries took over and ange years to just falling apart this year. We never had leaks, things we very much long term ideas and goals. It may be just the bakeries running out of money and putting pressure on the club, stress= stupid decisions.

zimbos_05 wrote:I never wanted Mulvey gone. Something clearly changed big time between the beginning of last season, and the beginning of this season. Beginning of last season there was a wind of change in the club. They wanted to do things properly. Give the manager the job to manage the team, and give the fans more of a say in the club. They had this philosophy and ideology. Mulvey once had control over most things in his initial 18 or so months at the club, that changed when Stead was promoted to TD. You have Stead (who simply didn't have the capabilities now in charge) He had the final say on recruitment, the quote from Fong above is obviously about Kurtishi. Stead also used his new found power to undermine Mulvey ie putting him on warning despite us being in the process of doing the double. Mulvey obviously had enough and stood up to Stead and was sacked as Fong had such a strong obsession with the TD approach in Europe so he and the rest of the board sided with Stead and allowed him to bring in his own yes man in Frans. (Which failed spectacularly) When there is talk of a manager losing the playing group its generally a large number of players, just look at the Jets. That didn't happen here, you had Miller who has a long history of only thinking only about himself getting the shits when he was dumped to the bench for poor performance. You have our captain Smith who always spoke of retiring in Brisbane suddenly departing the club after they've just walked all over Mulvey and that was it. Talk of it being Mulveys fault for poor fitness/preseason is ridiculous as well. We had a 'world renown' strengths and conditioning coach in Stead promoted to TD, giving him full control over everything and your telling me, we suddenly stopped using his methods or that he decided not to bring in a replacement. As TD (& giving that was his specialty) that's his ass on the line there. When it comes to sacking a manger (particularly one which had the success that Mulvey had at the club) it would take weeks to make that decision not to mention bringing in a replacement. Mulvey was a deadman walking for some time, the club didn't suddenly decide to get rid of him 48 hours after our sixth match of the season. It wasn't about results. Seeing as there was no TD role for Frans and he was watching that sixth match it meant he was doing so as he was taking over as manager. So at the latest the decision was made when we were 1-4, we thumped that jets in that fifth match as well, I doubt the club would make such a call after a great win, so are you thinking four rounds into the season is enough to make a decision based on results that the Manager must go? Honestly you had Fong two rounds into the season speculating about our managers future, there is simply no logical reason to support what Fong was doing unless it was a way of softening the shock of an upcoming sacking of Mulvey. Just look at Popa and how its taken until Round 20 or so for the media to slowly apply the blowtorch on him. Given Fong was so adamant on the European model of TD and now its suddenly gone, it appears that he's finally realized that Stead played him as a fool. @ned7 I agree with some of what you say, although you have to keep in mind that we played the majority of last season with 4 foreigners (and Henrique wasn't in the starting 11 that often either) So I don't think its the be all end all. When Kosta was coming back to the Aus, we simply didn't have room to move in the cap like MV. Doubt Paartalu would be welcomed back, he (along with his manager) kicked up an almighty stink in his final season at the club, in that last season his performances were poor, he was lazy & unmotivated. Was rightfully shown the door. Brattan stood up in the past 18 months and shown that he was no longer needed as well. Agree with Franjic, we shouldn't of signed Polenz to such a long term deal without an actual manager in charge, there was no rush. ](*,) Also a lot of people talking about how we missed Bes this season, perhaps we missed his energy and passion but in terms of pure goal scoring we really didn't. Kurtishi, Henrique, Solo & Kaluder combined for 19 goals (Solo & Henrique did play some games on the wing) but nonetheless that's a good haul. Should really be focusing on how woeful our defence was.

Well hopefully Melbourne Victory continue to take a leaf out of our book. Put Muscat on notice after doing the double in his first full season at the club, continue to undermine him through the off-season/pre-season, go over his head and sign players who he doesn't want, the chairmen two rounds into next season starts speculating about his future in the media and Muscat to be sacked after six rounds. #-o

Happy enough with that, didn't really show a lot. Bit worried who we are actually going to be able to bring in as a replacement though
Maybe start playing Borello central?

I'm was happy either way. He didn't quite click with the team. Played half the season so he may never had. But did score goals. Mifsud inbound???
I agree like to see Borrello central. The problem with so many of the young strikers are played out on the wing which really stumps there development as a central striker. Be interesting to see what going to happen with solo.

He scored goals but went missing far too often in games.
Not too bothered by it.

He actually only started about 8 games and scored 7 goals. Better ratio of goals/game time than Berisha - so what if he didn;t quite 'click'.
Suarez never clicked with the Liverpool team either - but then that's not what he got paid for.

Suarez never clicked with the Liverpool team either - but then that's not what he got paid for. The thing with Suarez (and bes) he could create his own chances. Kaludavich really dosn't have that, so when he wasn't on the same wave length its a problem. We became very spoiled with Bes, who offered more than just scoring goals. Which probably tainted my views of andriji. Wanting more from striker. All is forgiven if Alosi finds someone better otherwise its strike one on his judgement. Could also be lined up something else, his position next year was always up in the air.

Has the club stated where FFA Cup home matches will be played in 2015? Now that Perry Park has upgraded lighting it is available for FFA Cup games. This means 4 venues will be available
Suncorp (given the expense and what happened in the ACL seems not 100%) Gold Coast (as we all know -ACL, is it in the clubs mind?) Perry Park (number issues) - Adelaide, Newcastle and Melbourne City (Ballarat) all played at alternative grounds and all got around 2800. I do think Roar would make capacity easily and fans would complain to not having access. Although having 5000 in there against wsw would be fun. QSAC ( given FFA made Olympic play CCM there it must be available for an all A-League clash if Roar draw a home game first up)

Edited by scott21: 9/6/2015 07:29:23 PM I thought for all FFA cup matches in the early rounds at least are hold always at the NPL/state league sides home ground. The whole point is to help the smaller club by hosting an A league side to bring more people in.

BR will play an A-League team in the r32 because they did not qualify for the semi finals. BR played away in Perth last year r32 because they made the semi the season before an were therefore eligible to play a non A-league team Edited by scott21: 9/6/2015 09:01:16 PM

So we only get 13 home game again next season. Odds that Victory get 14 & 2 'away' games against Shitty?

FFA fixture list will be favouring NJ, same as Roar when the Coffee Clubs boys jettisoned. If the FFA are nervous about having to prop-up 2 or 3 licenses you can expect to see them helping out BR and CCM as well.
