Can this thread be moved to Extra time when only talking about AFL/NRL. Good for when A-league is on and Socceroos are playing but no relevance here atm

The A-League is still on
there was a game on Saturday, and another this weekend, and don't forget there are clubs still in the ACL, plenty to talk about

Which football are you referring to in your username?

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Not a good week for the NRL either Ozboy. usually more they get a couple over 300k. Nice of you to pick on them too.

Is 15k for NRL in melbourne correct?. I know it is a big ask but is it possible to see what origin rated in melbourne FTA or fox? Would be rather curious as I really thought the NRL was making inroads here (well before whole salary cap thing anyways)

What were the ratings from last years AL grand final and are we expecting to be beat them this year?

Wow - this really is a shocking Foxtel ratings result for AFL, isn't it? And, both teams are heavily supported in strong AFL States.

The NRL would rely heavily on free to air figures. Generally the best games are on Friday night where fox has no coverage or is heavily delayed.

109k thats a great rating number for sport with a 10th of the tv money those other hmm sports get, even though it was a final this is probably two of the lowest tv drawing teams we could have and to get 109k is great numbers.

Interesting to see that the HAL is more or less punching its weight compared to Super Rugby. From memory, their TV deal netted them in excess of $400M, although this is obviously boosted by the inclusion of marquee Wallaby matches.

Is it outlandish to suggest that soccer has a legitimate claim to something approaching this figure next tv deal? Providing of course that Socceroos games aren't siphoned off to FTA, where, presumably, SBS would pick them up for nothing in the absence of competition.

That would be for SANZAR not just Australian Rugby Union, there is no way they are worth that, I would think within a couple years A league football should be knocking off their ratings. Hopefully Foxtel and or channel 10 see a big future for football, if we are given real tv money we could have a much better standard and even more entertaining competition than we have now.

Just a correction. The $421 was our share of the SuperRugby broadcast deal. I don't know whether Tri nations is included in that. Bledisloe Cup is huge.

If we had a Uruguay qualifier every year it would help. :)

This is what I was thinking; it seems that HAL and super rugby ratings are more or less comparable (wherein the lowest rating HAL game possibly equals graveyard south african time zone games in the SR). The big international rugby games are arguably hotter properties than socceroos games at the moment, but this therefore might comprise the $100M differential.

More than we get now. :)

I hope.

Its not an area that I have any expertise in but with NRL tipped for $1.4b and 20/20 being renegotiated we will get whats left I reckon.

Sorry disagree with you. Apples for apples time zones, Socceroos World Cup tv ratings utterly thump Wallabies World Cup tv ratings. Socceross are a more valuable commodity than the Wallabies

3 Bledisloe Cup games a year all over 400k rating and 3 against South Africa at a bit less is what gives the ARU its big pay day.

If we had a Uruguay qualifier every year it would help. :)

Really? If so, why isn't $300m/5 years acceptable for Socceross/HAL?

3 Bledisloe Cup games a year all over 400k rating and 3 against South Africa at a bit less is what gives the ARU its big pay day.

Which I would have thought more than allows for a potential $121M differential. Let's see what the 3 upcoming WCQs in Australia rate.

Interesting to see that the HAL is more or less punching its weight compared to Super Rugby. From memory, their TV deal netted them in excess of $400M, although this is obviously boosted by the inclusion of marquee Wallaby matches.

$421m over 5 years according to an academic article I was reading over the weekend.

Is it outlandish to suggest that soccer has a legitimate claim to something approaching this figure next tv deal? Providing of course that Socceroos games aren't siphoned off to FTA, where, presumably, SBS would pick them up for nothing in the absence of competition.

Just a correction. The $421 was our share of the SuperRugby broadcast deal. I don't know whether Tri nations is included in that. Bledisloe Cup is huge.

I knew there was talk of that. Good that it has happened. International Union is by far the best Union to watch.

what does gyfox honestly expect from our next tv deal?

More than we get now. :)

I hope.

Its not an area that I have any expertise in but with NRL tipped for $1.4b and 20/20 being renegotiated we will get whats left I reckon.

With Foxtel's profits expected to reach $1.1B next year (up on $930M this year), hopefully there'll be enough left in the pie to keep us going for a while.
