This will be the first football match played at Lakeside since the renovations commenced in 2010.continue reading at: http://www.smfc.com.au/news/1116/south-to-launch-new-stadium-with-historic-exhibition-game-against-sydney-olympic/

Why has this been moved from Australian football? I think a game like this is justified to be in a more exposed area of this forum, considering this is historically one of the biggest derbies this country has, and it'll be the first time these two great and historic clubs will be playing each other in 7 years.

Because both are state based Premier League teams. You know the reason. Either way if it was left in AF it would've just descended into a troll thread. Hopefully this game draws a good crowd, the stadium looks to have come up a treat.

this isn't a state league game, it's a friendly between two clubs that happen to play in the state league against their own will.

Since the announcement was made the response has been amazing across social media, with a good month and a bit to promote it looks like its going to be a great day with a bumper crowd.

Might pop in to see this. More to see how the stadium has come up than for the football being played ;)

To the assorted South and Olympic fans who may be offended by this being moved from Australian Football to State - as a paid up member of South Melbourne and a long time moderator on this sight - had I seen this thread before it was moved, I would have moved it myself.
We are both state league clubs. What's the fuss?

It is a friendly. Hence it's in SL. If it was competitive, it'd be in AF.

So you're trying to downplay the significance of these two Clubs meeting for the first time since the demise of the NSL whether it be a friendly or a competitive match.

Seriously a massive LOL to a lot of the people commenting on this website, who hate on the NSL clubs despite their great contribution to Australian football.
After the crowds that Sydney Olympic v Sydney United pulled against each other this year, hopefully there will be another good turnout for South Melbourne v Sydney Olympic to keep the momentum going

All I see are good wishes from the non South/Olympic fans, excitement from the pro South/Olympic fans, and some bitchy whining from some fans about this match between two state league teams being switched to the state league forum. Move along.
