So what is The Wire about? 8-[ Haven't really seen it, but it's essentially about a Baltimore (?) drugs operation. Yeah basically, it begins as a single sprawling murder investigation that ends up unraveling a big drug operation, it's created by crime journo's from Baltimore who've seen this shit first hand so it's essentially a gripping social commentary on the political and criminal environment of Baltimore. The way it's portrayed through the eyes of the cops at the heart of it, and the dealers on the streets is just pure brilliance though, it's probably the most realistic and well polished crime drama of all time. The Wire and The Shield are both pretty full on. I haven't seen a lot of The Wire and it's one of those things where if you don't start at the start you've got no idea what's going on  Quote:Just finished S1 of Dexter, well and truly hooked. Read the book.

Yeah The Wire is one show where if you're gonna watch it you can't go from anywhere, you have to start at the beginning.

Watched the first episode of The Wire last night and wasn't a fan. Need to find a new show.

It definitely starts a bit slow but if you stick with it I guarantee you won't regret it. I'm going through Season 4 now and think it is quite possibly the most gripping and realistic story telling in television history. Once you start watching consecutive episodes you realize how brilliant it is, the way it just bluntly portrays the drug culture and the fucked up lives of the kids on the streets is just natural story telling at it's absolute pinnacle. It's not as full on as a GoT/BB in the sense of overtly shocking scenes like the Red Wedding, but the way it uncovers the way of life for the kids growing up in the projects it's just as shocking in it's realism, it definitely gives you a sense of perspective of another culture and even has you empathizing with some of them.

Finally got around to watching the rest of Season 4 of Community.
Had some great moments and all, but I think I built it up a bit too much. Seemed underwhelming. If I re-watch it, I'll see if it changes my opinion.

It took me like 4 attempts to actually watch that whole episode. So boring and nothing makes sense to you at all. Not liking the first ep is not an indicator if you're a fan or not. Literally no one likes it. You just have to push through till it starts getting good midway through the season. jlm8695 wrote:Just finished S1 of Dexter, well and truly hooked. Great... after you watch season 2 you should lower your expectations big time. Each following season just gets slightly worse and worse until it just becomes an embarrassment by season 7. Also, other shows worth watching obsessively that I didn't mention last time:
Arrested Development: Favourite non drama show. One of the few comedies that doesn't assume you have a 5 second attention span and is semi-serial.
Death Note: I usually steer clear of Japanese anime media, but my friend nagged me to watch this and then I caught the flu so had nothing else to do. The Japanese'ness and unnatural behaviour of characters is a bit of a put off for me to a point, but the brilliant story is more than worth the watch.

I think tried to get into it twice beforehand but gave up after the first episode, quite often in a quality show like The Wire the pilot doesn't try and impress you with flashy gimmicks to draw you in for the inevitable downslide, it is the start of an intricate and quality piece of television that gets increasingly better as you go on. Band of Brothers was the same for me, probably one of the most boring opening episodes I've seen but thank fuck I stuck with that. I just finished season four of The Wire and have never been more impressed with a television series before, Breaking Bad is still my favourite but holy shit The Wire is amazing.

Not as good as the previous three seasons, but it has it's moments. On the whole though, it felt like 13 fan-made episodes. solid like jelly maybe. sure it had its moments but they completely missed the mark every time with every ep bar 1 (ep written by Jim Rash). For example the whole 1st ep holds to jokes worth half a community chuckle 1. the dean walking through the college holding the not to unveil the hunger Deans and Abeds fantasy where he replaces Pierce with a different character all together. The inspector Spacetime ep was destroyed by the fact 1. if there was a Winger look a like out there he would have known because he is so vain he'd have googled his own look a like years ago and the ep where they al play look a likes with French Stewart to pay off Abeds debt would have revealed this as well as abed mentioning it to Jeff a thousand times. then there is the whole Annie love affair part and the complete sociopathic fan boy thing was done so shallowly that it was just cringe worthy. I can go on but just to say the whole season lacked the Laugh out load brilliance of one single scene in any ep from season 1-3.

Edited by jlm8695: 26/8/2013 04:28:34 PM My thoughts exactly, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are just ridiculously talented actors, the direction and cinematography of the show has been super impressive this season too. Jesse has definitely become my favourite character, I really hope aaron Pal kicks on and has the amazing career he deserves after Breaking Bad finishes up.
that scene with Jesse and Walt in the dessert was just an amazing showpiece of two actors at the top of their game, Jesse just flipping out looking for an honest human response from Walt and then the look of absolute terror when Walt advanced on him was amazing. It's a sign of how far the show has come and the amazing chemistry between the two that they can deliver such gripping performances and keep us guessing all the time
I've just stared watching Breaking Bad again up to season 1 ep 5/6 (fell asleep right at the end of ep 5) it is remarkably good, I just can't currently see myself watching it over and over because it is seriously heavy. But I'll happily watch all seasons.

Im so excited they doing A league of their own, I just fear that with most things Australian tv, they will make it way too over the top and cringeworthy.
They just need to follow the UK version to the tee.
Noticed that Warwick Capper is on the show and the way they have been advertising it, just makes it seem like another cheesy show.
I love the uk version, I hope they don't eff up here because its so damn hard to find anywhere to watch the UK one.

Fucking hell Breaking Bad is intense, my heart was pounding and I was on absolute edge for the entire 46 minutes, sort of like the onset to the Red Wedding scene in GoT when you knew what was about to happen, except I have no idea what is going to happen in BB.

Favorite bit was when Holly started laughing when Skyler was screaming at Walt in the truck.
