Still loving Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Caught up on the Halloween episode last night, loved it!

Also I caught up with the recent South Park episodes. Recently I realised I hadn't caught up on S16&17 so watched them, and I don't know if it's just me or not, but I found quite a few of those episodes boring, which is very out of the ordinary for me watching South Park. I've enjoyed so far of S18 though.

Luckily Homeland will rake in all the awards come award night

Whereas shows Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead can win its "niche genre" awards instead

Luckily?
If we go from the two horse race of Breaking Bad and True Detective, to Homeland as the standout program then it's been a pretty shit year for TV. There's way too much opposition to the recognition of GoT from elitists turned off by the hype, the hate is completely unwarranted IMO.

Just watched Season 1 of Party Down. Hilarious! Apparently according to the mate who recommended it, Season 2 is even better so I'm heaps keen to get cracking on it.

The Chaser are back on TV.

They're doing a new show called 'The Chasers media circus'.

They're putting their episodes up on youtube - currently two episodes in. It's nothing on the chaser, the lads will never get back up to that level of awesomeness, but it's still half decent. They get random panelists on for the sake of poking fun at the likes of Ch 7,9, 10 and right-wing radio shock jocks.

What did people think of Six Feet Under anyway?

Think of this line->

"That's the thing about Narcissus, it's not that he's so fucking in love with himself, because he isn't at all, he fucking hates himself. It's that without that reflection looking back at him... he doesn't exist. "

^ So relevant to the kids on social media these days

American Horror Story

Its a show the girls would like watching more, but its something worth watching courtesy of the FX? Also it has Julia Roberts 2.0 - the niece who played Johnny Depp's daughter on the movie 'Blow'. Anyway on AHS, shes there to remind us of who she was from a few generations ago

TWD: I love that the show is just about a shot for shot remake of the comic for the first 3 episodes.

There are still continuity issues, and the show is way too character heavy now. Now that
Gareth and the hunters are all dead
there's a lot of filler needed between now and Alexandria. I can see a major chunk of the season focusing on a non-comic arc with Beth and wherever she is.
If you hadn't already figured it out, Eugene is full of shit
Wow

It was brilliantly done though, initially I thought the time jump and the Nucky back story stuff was going to ruin the show but I couldn't have been more wrong, it tied the whole show together perfectly. The way this final season has been shot is just perfect, I've never seen TV look so good, honestly I think this final season has put it right up there with The Soprano's - personally I've enjoyed it more.
About that twist at the end - I'd seen the rumours about the kids real identity a while a go and thought it would be way too cheesy for BE, but it tied in perfectly with the direction of this season, it had to end with Nucky dead and being punished like this was a much more fitting death than just being whacked by Luciano and co. I've been sick of Gillian's arc ever since Jimmy died but after the true extent of how fucked up her life became after Nucky sold her out I couldn't help but think this ending was just perfect.
Unlike other HBO series like The Sopranos, True Blood, Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire just never really took off, or raked in a pile of awards

And the show did have a remarkable premiere (directed by Martin Scorcese), and with the show finishing it confirmed what many thought, that it lost momentum pretty much straight after the pilot, and never really recovered it

I disagree with that, I thought the first season got better as it went on and the show peaked in S2 whilst still maintaining an excellent standard in the following seasons.

I think the main reason it hasn't won the awards is because it didn't have a standout powerful lead like a Gandolfini or Cranston type, and this isn't a knock on Buscemi as he played the role brilliantly. I just think the character of Nucky didn't have the creative license to dominate the screen like Walter White or Tony Soprano had, instead that freedom seemed to be afforded more to the antagonists of the show like Jimmy Darmody and Gyp Rossetti (who did win an emmy), and even in supporting players like Capone, Van Alden, Harrow etc.

Honestly though I think the quality throughout the large cast is the best I've seen, there were so many iconic characters created here (Jimmy, Chalky, Van Alden, Harrow etc), and other ridiculously talented supporting players like Rothstein, Capone, Eli, Narcisse etc. Plus they absolutely nailed the casting for the flashbacks, particularly the younger Nucky.

Game of thrones has the exact same problem, yet its the most talked about show on the internet

HOWEVER, there are many hostile fanboys who suggest that the show is sacrosanct

The show has won jack shit at awards night. But hey, Its got boobs, right?

That's not at all a problem though, much like Boardwalk it's actually a strength of the show as both boast very talented and extensive casts.

Also FWIW Game of Thrones has actually won a ton of the less glamorous Emmy awards (writing, costumes, editing, direction etc) over the years, and Peter Dinklage did pick up a best supporting actor win a few years back now.

Perhaps it's because tone isn't very clear when written, but I think that the show has made a mistake in its portrayal of Eugene. In the comics he is a smug arsehole the way he is in the show, but it's much less pronounced and his story about
being a genius scientist with inside knowledge on how to stop the virus
is a lot more believable. Abraham is also annoying me a bit with his
save the world
schtick.

Comic spoiler:
In reality, he's just a high school science teacher who is using his very broad and shallow knowledge of high school level science and biology to fool other people into protecting and looking after him. He's not a bad guy, and is above average level intelligence, but was desperate when he realised he had no survival skills when the world went to shit.

He redeems himself in a big way in the future.
How did you go with the game?

I'm about to give up on Gotham.

I just can't get a grasp on what it's trying to be, and find the continuity and era errors in it really grating. The cars and clothes are from the 80's, the computers from the 90's, cellphones from the early 2000's. None of the characters other than Wayne have any apparent motivation and the performances other than Wayne's actor are cringe-worthy at best.

Even Alfred is an annoying prick.

Boiled down, it seems like a sub-par buddy cop show with the only draw being the DC universe that barely features that universe or characters in any meaningful way.

Not to mention that DC won't even tie Gotham, Arrow, Flash etc into the movie.

Really missing a big chance there (and one that Marvel has done well with Agents).
