This is an interesting topic. In the Deloitte Football Money League reports they measure revenue from three different areas; Broadcasting, Commercial and Matchday. It is interesting comparing the top teams in the different leagues. The top Serie A teams earn huge amounts in broadcasting revenue. This is mainly because each team individually negotiates its rights with the tv stations. However, its Matchday revenue is a long way down compared to other leagues. Perhaps new stadia will do it, or perhaps cleaning up the corruption will do it. Either way, new stadia won't hurt the competition and perhaps give these teams a chance to gain more revenue and ultimately be able to afford the best players.

How does this aid the development of the league, another problem with Serie A. Big clubs command big TV fees and less notorious clubs are left to scramble for scraps. I mean what station wants to pay Catania big money for TV rights? Premiership performance based proportionate model ensures fair reward for teams performing well in the league.

The Nerazzurri were keen on the Roma midfielder but they don’t seem willing to spend the mega bucks for the player.

Matteo Ferrari has been linked as a possible target in order to cover for the club’s defensive woes as Walter Samuel, Cristian Chivu, Ivan Cordoba and Materazzi are all in the treatment room.

He is right. Burdisso looks like hes on the way out and our central defence is undermanned and old. We should definately bring in central defensive reinforcements.
I don't think Aquilani is the way to go if we buy in midfield. He hasn't really proved that he is a top player.

And good stadiums doth not make a league.
That list is just an underquoted fans wishlist. Where the hell are Sampdoria going to get 160mil pound from??
Liverpool's new stadium is costing in excess of 400mil and just to add 10k to Anfield they were quoted 200mil!

And just because the stadiums are better doesn't erase the corruption in the league, nro does it erase the deep-seeded fan violence that is scaring the players away from the Serie A.

The reason the crowds are shit is because the stadiums are as well. People won't go to games at shit stadiums. There is definately enough support to have better attendances than any other league. The factors that are stopping the FIGC in getting guys to games is because the stadiums are shit, unsafe and terrible for viewing. Once these stadiums are built (looking at about 2012 at the latest) there is no reason why it cant be leaps and bounds ahead of the EPL. I have every confidence in it to be, should these structures be completed.
Crowd violence would plummet, and viewing would be better.
Your point for Samp not affording a stadium, there is no reason why they can't. They are a big club, and im sure they'd have rich owners capable of donating for one, with sponsors and governmen grants, why not afromanGT, why not? The Allianz Arena was almost fully funded by the ponsor, Allianz insurance.
And when was a player ever scared to go to Italy? Plz tell me of one.

The stadiums are shit in La Liga too, have you seen Vicente Calderon?? It's a mess at one end. But they're still pulling seuperior crowds to every club in Serie A most weeks. Your point is mute.
And Just because their owner is an oil magnate owns the club is no guaruntee of spending. Spurs have had very rich backers for a long time and they've always been rubbish.
Sure, Allianz funded one of the best stadiums in europe. But Sampdoria don't have any sponsors nearly as rich as to be able to build them an entire new stadium. You're looking at something in the ballpark of 400mil pound that needs to be raised, which is insane for an also-ran italian club. Never going to happen, you're having a wank.
Moreover, while you're using this as an argument as to why Italian football is better than english football, the irony is that Sampdoria's club crest depicts a sailor known as 'Giovanni-Battista'...now, my italian is a little rusty, but does that not mean "John the Baptist"...an englishman??
Quote:
Even with these proposed stadia the league won't be as you say "leaps and bounds ahead of the EPL". The Premier League stadiums are all well advanced and many of them are modern structures. The Premier League stadiums are built and enhanced to deal with growing demand whereas the majority of Serie A is just looking to make safe arenas, and in the case of Juve they are downgrading from over 60,000 to a smaller 40,000 arena because they can't fill the Della Alpi and costs of running the stadium weekly at an average of almost a third of capacity is crippling.

Arsenal signed a major deal with Emiartes to partially fund their new stadium at Ashburton and fill it regularly although recently Wenger announced in an interview that the debt to finance such a venture is still holding the club back in terms of money for transfers and wages. Can a club like Sampdoria realistically take on a project the equivalent of the Emirates and still be financially sound enough to attract big name players? Italian TV revenues still aren't a patch on the Premiership funds.

Ronnie is again the shining light in a stupid argument by PazzaInter.
The EPL stadiums are some of the best in the world (for the most part)...even the ones that have been there for 50+ years! Altering the structiures and reducing seating to cut running costs in the serie A isn't going to do anything, it just goes to whos what a dire state the game in italy is taht they need to down-grade in order to bring people back to the game.

You mention Arsenal's deal with emirates crippling the club in the transfer market, I think liverpool are nearly in the same boat really. The spending is going to dry up sooner or later and we're going to be in the same position as arsenal and this is all due to the drive for a enw stadium which we need to get more people through the gates rather than turning them away week in nd week out. It's killing us, but teams like Sampdoria and Udinese et al trying to replicate such form financially would be devastating for them.
Quote:
I think it will go a long way to fixing that. This stadia would give the league a better image, so maybe the FIGC will really want to crack down on the corruption. Also recently the FIGC have been beginning to realise that the league has shocking corruption. Most of the coaches are very determined to change the state of the game.

The coaches might want to change things, they always want to win legitimately, but the boardrooms are still fucked. And aint nothing new stadiums can do about that.
Quote:
The difference between Samp and Arsenal getting a stadium is that the Emirates Stadium cost 430 million pounds, so thats like 500 million euros, and the new Samp stadium is valued at 126 million euros.

Uh...400mil pound = in the ballpark of 700mil Euro. If Sampdoria's new stadium is going to be 126mil euro, it's not going to be much bigger than Staabout 10k, it'll make monaco's home ground lookenormous!
Quote:
And as for your point of Juve not affording the stadium rent an whatever is complete bullshit and untrue as Juventus don't even own the stadium, the local council does.

My gods you're stupid. JUVENTUS ARE RENTING THE STADIUM, they can't afford the rent and running costs of a stadium that they're only half filling on a good day, is it really that difficult for you to see?? The local council DO give a shit about Juventus because should Juve leave (as they are apparently doing), there won't be a tennant in the stadium and they've got a big empty stadium on their hands not earning them any money.
Quote:
i just thought i'd show u guys this pic of the Estadio Artemio Franchi. You have to look through about 3 fences to see the ball. All the clubs need to do is where the ultras sit, elevate it like it is in Germany.

So your solution is "Move the ultras"?? Stupid, jif you move them, they'll just go back to the same place they've always gone and they'll then do whatever the hell they feel like. You'll get an incident like what happened with Atlanata and Milan...

Inter's defence is rubbish depth wise atm. But a forray into the transfer market foir a purchase to make short-term cover is just asking for trouble...co-ownership on a defender perhaps? Aqui8lany isn't that bad, he's been running the show at Roma with De Rossi.

Keane and Berbatov or Arshavin and Villa. Who would you take? I was watching a spurs pre season game and they had Lennon on the right and Bentley on the left. WTF? If bentley isnt good enough to be your first choice RM why the fuck spend so much on him? Gio looks like he'll be playing a fair bit this season. Looking like a very attractive team. I liked watching Tottenham last season cause you were pretty much guaranteed goals. Shit defence, good attack. This year shouldnt be much different.

Their owners aren't exactly poor, but it's got to dry up sooner or later and I do wonder when that's going to be, not to mention what they plan to do then.
They spent big back in the early 90's to lure Klinsmann and co to the club and that didn't work for them then so I don't know how much is going to be different this time. Perhaps Ramos will make a difference, perhaps he wont.

I dunno that there's any benefit to signing Downing. I think I'd probably rather have Barry. Barry has those leadership qualities that can be used to replace Gerrard/Carragher.
