So I take it neither party admitted that their disgusting, sub-human policies on Asylum seekers were wrong and that they now want to help people who need help?

Is their any party that advocates the support, protection and aid of asylum seekers?

They'll never get my vote

Unless they actually are the only people in politics who demonstrate a sense on humanity on the issue of asylum seekers.

Based on what?
The ALP is in shambles, Rudd only holds his job because he represents their only hope of getting elected, his party despises him and absolutely loathe working for him. He abandoned, bungled or completely failed to deliver on so many election promises but seemingly made up for it by delivering the apology to the Aborigines. This is arguably the worst period of government in our nations short history and has been marred by turmoil, infighting and instability; and Rudd has to shoulder the majority of the blame for that in both poor leadership and in continually working against his party for his own selfish cause.

Didn't watch the debate.

If the rules said no notes, and either used notes, that is utter bullshit. Even if the bloke who used notes was the most pro-mining guy in the world (aka my man) I'd be offended by that. People can yap on all day about "i'm not voting for this guy, he's incompetent and sweats when put on the spot, looks creepy, whatever etc". If you're going to have a "showdown", play by the fxxxing rules. What kind of role model openly and blatantly cheats like that? Did he yap on about how important the education system was? Will he have to answer to the hundreds/thousands of emails of kids taking cheat-sheets into exams they weren't allowed to? Disregarding my bias - Kevin Rudd proved himself to be a complete and utter incompetent twat, and a terrible role model

The rules didn't say no notes.

I tried to find a "non-biased" article. I found one from the ABC website, which I assume if anything would be pro-current-party-biased.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-12/party-leaders-back-on-the-campaign-trail-after-election-debate/4879458

Quote:
According to the rules "the leaders may have a pen and paper on the lectern and no other documentation or props".

...

It was up to moderator David Speers to pull Mr Rudd up on the rule breach, but he failed to do that on the night.

News Limited has reported Mr Speers has apologised for not taking action at the time.

The Prime Minister insists he complied with the rules.

"The PM arrived at lectern in full view of the audience and the panel," a spokesperson for Mr Rudd said in a statement.

"There were no objections raised at any time. We have always believed this rule is aimed at preventing the use of props."

If anything it just seems Rudd's spokesperson is playing the "innocent until pointed out guilty" card. Plus the moderator admitted he should have pulled it up.

As I said - horrific role model. This opens a whole can of worms. I legit can't take pride in the bloke.

Pretty fucking big.

So instead of taxing the mining companies for shipping Australian resources and profits overseas we're giving them free money. Nice one, government.

yes this is correct.......Ross greenwood did a report on this and some companies are actually getting tax credits and instead of the Government collecting they are actually dropping huge chunks of revenue, not to mention the implementation costs of the tax...it is said they havent even gone close to recouping there cost's.....not surprising from this incompetent Government.....

This is a valid criticism of what happens in a hung parliament.

A policy comes through that makes fiscal sense, then those with vested interests whittle it down and whittle it down until it's a complete shadow of the original intent.

So if this is expected, and nearly predictable, wouldn't it make no fiscal sense and hence a ridiculous idea in the firsy place?

There are some issues with this assessment of the past 6 years of ALP governance.

In terms of party politics, yes it's been distasteful. The ALP made a huge mistake in knifing Rudd in 2010, and it's been a very strange and interesting time of internal turmoil ever since.

The LNP has succeeded by conflating internal politics with poor governance where the facts rarely align with the assertions made. While not perfect, the ALP has made several reforms that I believe will be looked back upon as good policy in the long run.

There are several examples of the things that Abbott and Hockey are saying, particularly about the economy, that have been proven false & inconsistent (see: http://youtu.be/Vn_YJj-U7Eo). There is a prima facie case here that the LNP are building up towards a period of Austerity if they win government, which is something that should be considered very scary for all Australians as the vast economic consensus shows that Austerity doesn't only not work, but tangibly makes things worse (see: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/the-age-of-austerity-is-over-why-it-doesnt-work-8586201.html).

As the debate showed last night, Abbott will be able to continue to mislead the public without the inconvenience of fact checking by the press. Left unchecked, we're on track to find out just how bad an Abbott led government will be. I believe that 433 is spot on with his assessment, wherever his allegiance lies.

Just my two cents, and its just and observation.

In this election, I think more so then most that have gone before, people won't necessarily be voting for the guy they like the most, rather from the choice they have, it will be the guy they dislike the least.

ALP gain power blow all the cash leave a mess....then get voted out
LNP gain power clean up the mess get the budget back on track and do all the hard yards
