just do what they do for motorcyclists and place a sign up in security sensitive area's that the head wear must be removed before entry.

That's the most sensible way to go, I think the issue is whether that's legal and/or constitutional to legislate. I still don't think it's a big enough deal but it keeps getting oxygen by people that have agendas other than security. If they just got it done, it's one less excuse to use.

As Tony Abbott said the other day, "Has anyone attempted to get into parliament with a niqab or burqa on before?"

Seems like the biggest non-issue ever.

I still wanna get my dick out at parliament house though.

does it need to be legislated?

i can understand for security purposes the removal of head wear and to be honest anyone who whinges about showing their face is just being difficult, any issues about religion or culture sensitivity can be ironed out through management practices........

When my son was in Afghanistan he was involved in an incident where they were attacked by what they thought was a woman with the full kit on, turned out to be a bloke with AK47 and strap on bombs, 3 were seriously injured and my son copped shrapnel to the chest & legs

I'm not sure if it does, I vaguely remember a court challenge in NSW about it but I may be getting confused with something else. Just saying if it does need legislating then they should get it over and done with.

I agree completely with what you're saying though. The security factor can be resolved with proper management. The other argument (not by you) about women being oppressed is also not a valid reason to ban it completely as it will do little to fix the actual problem.

Mainly the ones that just scream 'racist bogan' when someone speaks out about Islam or anything else etc. It's an issue that needs proper discussion.

I'm a fence sitter on the whole Burka thing btw, probably no point getting into it. I usually just pop in here for the lolz

That's because it's not about security issues. It's essentially about fear, once you've been conditioned long enough by the media on death cults every poor Arab pass starts looking like a terrorist threat. It really is a non issue. People should be free to wear what they want.

Why is it an issue. Can you point to any examples in the past when it has been a security issue in our parliament? Why are we having a national debate on hats when the government is busy eroding our freedoms? Why can't you respect their culture?

Way to trivialise the issue - why are you so intent on having a discussion about scarfs and hoods when the government is busy eroding our freedoms?

Why don't I respect their culture? I don't like it - but I respect their right to follow it as long as it doesn't interfere with us.

That's the thing it doesnt interfere with us at all yet we have the speaker of the house saying these people should be segregated. It's so completely wrong it's ment to stir up public debate so other issues are ignored.

It's a safety concern - I don't give a shit if a Muslim women wants to sit where everyone else sits, but double standards shouldn't be applied on the basis of religious/cultural reasons.

Should nuns be segregated lest they're hiding a suicide vest under their getup?

Probably according to the "security" argument.

Won't happen though will it bigot?

Why don't you admit you don't like sheilas wearing that gear instead of pretending it's a "security" issue.

It isn't and you know it isn't.

I'll admit I don't like them wearing it.

I still astounded that people want them banned . Again security already ask them to prove their identity in a private area . But people ignore that for their own purposes

I've already said I don't like it, but I respect their right to wear it.

However, religious/cultural reasons should not be a reason to apply double standards.

Where has the PM's budget emergency gone?

By GREG OATES
Oct. 13, 2014, midnight

On the one hand we have a budget emergency because we are supposedly paying $1 million a day interest on "Labor's" debts $365 million a year.

But when it comes to funding this war, he tells us the amounts sound big $250 million for six months or $500 million a year but that needs to be put into perspective compared with the size of our budget.

He went on to say out of a budget of $400 billion a year, the amount was insignificant.

So while his expenditure is greater than Labor's so-called debt and is on top of it, we still don't have to worry.

I feel compelled to ask: What was the emergency and where has it gone?

On the one hand we have a budget emergency because we are supposedly paying $1 million a day interest on "Labor's" debts $365 million a year.

But when it comes to funding this war, he tells us the amounts sound big $250 million for six months or $500 million a year but that needs to be put into perspective compared with the size of our budget.

He went on to say out of a budget of $400 billion a year, the amount was insignificant.

So while his expenditure is greater than Labor's so-called debt and is on top of it, we still don't have to worry.

I feel compelled to ask: What was the emergency and where has it gone?

Almost choked on my cereal this morning when i heard that Labor claimed they could return the budget to surplus faster than the Liberals. Their self delusion is staggering.

What a shame it isn't. (I was really hoping it was.)

Quality humour though. Imagine the uproar if The Chaser or someone else pulled a stunt like this, with that language, these days.
