Not quite. Most people paying less or nil tax probably have no idea what negative gearing and CGT is.

Our tax system punishes earning a salary and significantly favours investment backed income.

In a nominal sense perhaps, but when you factor in inflation the effective tax rate for CGT disposals is frequently higher than personal income tax.

Negative gearing as it currently applies in Australia is a rort and one of, if not the major factor impacting housing affordability.

rich or not, but getting a massive free kick from the government.

big difference is welfare handouts have no return, they actually have massive social ramifications....on the other hand a few tax concessions are no drama when you consider they ARE paying tax, and the run on effect is huge, trades and services engaged during sale and purchase, insurances all who are paying tax and employing people....so to compare the two is just a joke

What was unpalatable about that was she was using it as an excuse to defend her poor performance and to silence her critics. The way she tried portray herself as this poor victim made her look thin skinned and pitiful. Most PMs are absolutely savaged by the media and when it came to be her turn she just dissolved and became this quasi feminist rather than national leader.

Looks like Turnbull has secured the legacy copper and HFC networks for no extra cost. Quite a coup, especially considering most skeptics theorised it would cost at least billions to acquire.

Oh and good to see NBN co securing those copper networks and the inevitable fix up, sell up. That isn't going to end in Telstra 2.0

Just point to out there is no reliable empirical data to suggest the Telstra copper network is completely fucked. i work for Telstra, i deal with many many customers every day, the vast majority of customers don't have a problem with their fixed lines and ADSL.

Rofl where are the customers you talking to?

A lot of the people I deal with in Townsville with their copper lines are fucked.

EDIT: Hell I even have a tech coming out today to check on our pits due to too much noise on our lines.

same place the people who work for a living goes, so they cancel each other out, BUT the investors and business generate employment and good and services.....and a multi level tax revenue, noy just a drain on the government.

really it isn't that hard to see.....just open your eyes......i have no problem with welfare for those who truly need it.....just to many bludgers out there.......people who know how to rort the system.....and the system doesn't fight back it just gets bigger and heavier and more entrenched....

It's not completely fucked but I know very few that are able to get ADSL2 at anything close to the maximum speed. That's a lot of times due to distance from the exchange which if designed properly will be mostly sorted via FTTN (there will still be marginal connections for sure). There's plenty though that have degraded copper that may give a slow but stable connection, that's not enough for many to complain in fact even if I myself had a connection like this I'd probably have accepted it because Telstra but it's not going to deliver much improvement in a FTTN world and they certainly won't get 100Mbps.

This government's handling of the NBN is one of the worst things they've done since being in power but because of its technical nature, hardly gets reported on.

i have had ADSL2+ for a number of years and it is delivered in a rural location over very average copper lines, it works to maximum speed and is very reliable.....

1. How far are you from the exchange?
2. Can you post a speedtest? http://www.speedtest.net/
3. What makes you say your copper lines are average? And by average do you mean that they are typical of what most people are on or that they aren't good?

Doesn't Keynes economic theory support the idea of budget surpluses and reigning in government debt? It some though Labor doesn't believe in surpluses anymore, or at least has no idea how to produce one.

OK so you ignored the rest but if you're getting max speed that's incredible seeming the theoretical limit for you is somewhere between 16 and 17Mbps.

Now I'm even more keen to see your speedtest results.

Here's my work one

The difference it makes to my job productivity-wise is significant. Under the proper NBN, we'd all have close to this to our homes.
