They got a bit too much credit for the "boat stopping" but I'll concede those 2 because there not enough to make him anything better than the worse Prime Minister in the history of the Commonwealth.

Quote:On five occasions, pollsters asked how respondents would vote if Malcolm Turnbull were prime minister, by way of contrast with the headline results. On each occasion, the two-party vote for the Coalition under Turnbull was substantially higher – by 4% in an Essential Research poll in June 2011; by 7% and 8% in ReachTEL and AMR Research polls shortly after Kevin Rudd resumed the prime ministership in July 2013; and by 6% and 9% in Galaxy and ReachTEL polls immediately after the first Liberal Party spill vote in Februaryhttp://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollbludger/2015/09/15/malcolm-turnbull-form-guide/ If the results from the February poll were translated to an election the Libs would comfortable retain government. Luckily, Malcolm will only get a 2 to 3 month polling honeymoon before it drops off

At the end of the day, it makes no difference, the Queen of England is still Australia's head of state, she's having a 'good ol yarn' for all this going on, all it does is 'please her'
Now, can we have a system where we can choose our leader/ head of state?

Hopefully this will be the end of the conservative faction wank stains in the LNP and we can actually see some progression in this country. I honestly cannot think of any great, ground breaking policies or legislation that has permanantly and dramatically improved this country since Medicare

Might be the only good thing if Turnbull wins the next election as he'd likely be turfed out if they lose and something as open for debate as this issue won't be raised before it.

Something for people that can string a few sentences together to form an argument for or against... I'd love to see this move split the conservative arm of the Liberal party much like the DLP of yore (probably well before most of us here's time) or though not in the same way the way the Greens have become a party of choice for progressive voters. Don't think it will actually happen but perhaps a few of the most crazy tories might...

I like that Malcom held back and took the job only when Tony had made it untenable beyond a doubt, where-as Gillards challenge seemed to not be inspired by anything other than ambition relying soley on the fact that the rest of the ALP thought Krudd had become a bullying cnut. Krudds approval ratings had dropped but not to anything that would be too worrying. And it showed when they asked him back to dethrone Gillard at the end. In reality Gillard holds a lot of responsibility for us enduring the worst Priministerial run with Tony at the helm.

Nationals seem a bit pissed the weren't consulted  As people said, it's not their party, but they're a coalition. The only reason they have government is because of said Coalition. They talk as if they're gonna split but that is simply political chest beating. No way either party would survive to hold Government ever again if they were to go it alone. -PB

Why does Abbott get credit for stopping the boats? The only thing he stopped was the flow of information to the media.

Great point by Richard Di Natale - funny how Abbott whinges in his speech about the media spreading lies and leaks to destabilise him, when he himself was against the reforms of the media.
