So as the Wilfully Ignorant party instigates a leader that slides towards the left wing, the nutty policies are progressively (pun intended) removed

Let's see if you scrap your dud, 2nd rate NBN also, that will ultimately burden Australia with more debt that you self-proclaimed 'better economic managers' claim you try to reduce

In related news, Dyson Heydon last year made the comment that "anti-catholicism is the racism of the intellectuals"

The next person who links criticism of religion to racism is seriously going to be punched in the fucken head.

What I can't understand is how there isn't wayyyy more heat over the consistent failure to confirm what the plan is to roll out this service.

Either build it and build it fast or don't.

This stuffing about is only costing the tax payer more money.

This I agree with. The media are either owned by stakeholders (e.g. Rupert) who see high speed broadband as a threat to their existing business models (Optus taking the EPL rights a case in point) or government owned and have seemed petrified to ask Malcolm any tough questions on it. Couple that with older people's general lack of understanding of the technology and we have this mess.

Fibre was already linking the vast majority of exchanges. If you meant to say rolling fibre just to the distribution points (street corners), I'd agree with you too.
This would:
1. cut the most expensive part out of the roll out which is connecting premises.
2. Would mean that those that want/need to run fibre to their premises could at a reasonable cost (not the 10s of thousands it is with FTTN)
3. The copper runs would be short meaning better sync speeds using G.Fast and other future VDSL technologies.
4. Also would be easier/cheaper to remediate any faulty copper lines
