I am laughing at those trying to put up the Universal Basic Income as some kind of "leftist conspiracy".

Leaving aside the validity of the policy itself, this was first popularised by the darling of the neoclassic economics - Milton Friedman.

The right like it because it would replace all other welfare programs - so govt bureaucracy would significantly reduce, and implementation would be very simple.

The left like it because Is guarantees everyone a minimal standard of income.

I personally think it is an interesting policy, worthy of more research.

Hasn't it been clarified that the Liberals aren't actually privatising Medicare?

That's if you believe what they are saying.

But, given the constant broken promises by both sides, I would argue their word has little credibility.

Libs policy on Medicare is analogous to ALP on asylum seekers. They claim their policy is the same as the other side, but they don't have credibility for people to believe them!

They also said they wouldn't cut ABC funding and a bunch of other things last election. I don't think they'd be able to privatise Medicare even if they tried but things like the GP co-payment and other unpalatable "tweaks" to Medicare are likely from them.

Libs aren't going to privatise Medicare. Outsourcing the payments system, IT, co payments, freezing rebates etc in no way amount privatisation. It's a cheap scare campaign run by a desperate opposition to win a few last gasp, hail mary votes.

Labor on the other hand have form when it comes to being soft and weak on borders, and saying one thing before an election and changing their tune following it. It's not that I don't believe Labor when they say they'll retain the governments policies, it's that people smugglers, UNHCR, Labor left and advocacy groups would pile so much pressure on them they'll eventually capitulate and open the gates. People smugglers know how weak Labor are on borders and will be champing at the bit for an opportunity to exploit their misguided compassion.

Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer on Wednesday was forced to issue a clarification after saying the Opposition's negative gearing policy would increase house prices, despite the Prime Minister saying home values would be smashed.

You're just nitpicking.

Has absolutely nothing on the Mediscare fiasco Labor are trotting out, which is without precedent and basically reveals the corrupt heart of Labor and desperation to say and do anything to win power. I get that sometimes parties spin their arguments but this "referendum on the privatisation of Medicare" is a blatant lie and crosses the line as to what is acceptable.

Just stop being a Labor stooge and admit the whole thing is a fucking farce. When Labor lose this election hopefully they'l they reflect long and hard on their twisted tactics and focus on developing better policy rather than hammering the phones calling vulnerable old people trying to frighten them into voting Labor.

Labor stooge, of course!

Just to clarify - my point was that both sides have a long history or hyperbole, and lying.

But if you want to talk unprecedented - how about creating a Royal Commission in order to target the other side of politics, headed by a guy who was guest speaker at a party function?

What the ALP are doing around Medicare is hyperbole and exaggeration for sure. But both parties are full of cr@p with this type of stuff. Your selective outrage to the bullsh#t of one side only is what I am arguing against.

Yes both sides have a history of spin and BS but Labor have taken it to a whole new level. Most election cycle spin doctoring has nuances of truth and is ambiguous enough to qualify as argument rather than pure lies.

But this is different.

Mediscare is just an outright lie, unprecedented in Australian politics, with no basis in fact whatsoever and the Labor are calling the election a referendum based on this outright lie. It would be like Liberals accusing of Labor of wanting to nationalise the financial sector based on their wanting to hold a royal commission into banks, or instituting socialism because they are curtailing negative gearing.

Now I don't buy that unions are beyond reproach, nor do I think the banks are beyond reproach, and therefore royal commissions into unions and banks while may be politically motivated may also good reasons for doing them and bring good outcomes. There's nothing good about malicious scare campaigns drenched in deceit and deliberate fear mongering to scare vulnerable elderely people into voting Labor.

We can argue all about who said this and who did that but Mediscare is just a whole another level of lies , flirting with corruption.

As a Labour voter I find the whole medicare thing ridiculous. They've just straight out made it up. It's pathetic.

Makes no difference anyway the Coalition is about $1.10 for the win and shortening everyday. Labour at $7.00.

A couple of days ago the Coalition was $1.30 or thereabouts. Would have been good to get on a few weeks ago when they were $2.00 or so.

So Russ calm down son. Uncle Mal will be back in by Church on Sunday and you can come on here and rag on everyone for the next 3 years unimpeded.

Well you made the claim so presumably there's a quote somewhere where she says 'hey everybody, just so you know I'm a communist.'

You see that would qualify as 'self-proclaimed'.

I want the union jack removed. Am I a communist?

Seeing you mentioned her I read up some of the stuff she's written for 'redflag'. Hardly a call to arms and an overthrow of capitalism.

Couple of articles about the matildas but nothing there super controversial. Have a read for yourself. https://redflag.org.au/author/roz-ward

Pretty much lukewarm stuff compared to your Tim Blair / Andrew Bolt types.

Lol
The Red Flag page has page links to Marxist sources all over the place...why are you so naive to think just because she hasn't said it herself it doesn't make her a communist.
She even remarked that her job was done with the safe schools and all there needs now is a commie flag in place of an Australian one over the union jack
It's like saying people who kill in the name of religion aren't true believers of their faith...well if you take away their religious books then where do they cite their motivations from?

you obviously don't think wolvEs in Sheeps clothing exists

You, YOU said she's a 'self-proclaimed' communist.

I've noticed you're big on claims, not so big on evidence.

I'm not naive champion she very well may be a communist, socialist more likely, but I'm not the one screaming that she's a "SELF PROCLAIMED COMMUNIST".

That's you.
