I suppose you think that New York Red Bulls are strangely athletic fizzy drinks too    FFS there's nothing wrong with having West in the name. In fact it will have lost whatever chance it had of being successful if the West bit is omitted.

Its the "Suburbs" part I was opposed to because it means nothing. And FFS New York Red Bulls clearly tells you where this team is from. So your example was extremely poor.

I agree with those two things. It would be kinda silly to call yourselves 'Athletic' without having any kind of affiliation with an athletic club or the establishment of one, which I don't see happening. Might as well use the name Real Sydney without receiving any kind of patronage to do so. You don't have to have an affiliation with an athletic club to call your self athletic. And the oldest existing club in NSW and Australia is Balgownie Rangers, founded in 1883, which still competes in the Illawarra regional league.

Well you did specify red and yellow and did not specify what colour shirt/shorts and socks eg colour combo u meant for it so i found this one a while back someone did.

I lived the first 40 years in my life in the west of Sydney and being labelled west or western by people not from the area was considered a derogatory term. Now things may have changed but there is still a couple of generations of fans that will have this view. In my opinion people not from the area should butt out of the discussion and let the people from the region decide what they like. Its just like all the peeps from the mainland who don't want a Tasmanian team to be Tasmania United. The people of any region are the only ones who understand the issues that go to choosing a suitable name for their team. Edited by gyfox: 15/3/2012 08:16:45 PM

Hey everyone. 400 petitions were sent to the FFA today. That's a great effort! Keep spreading the word. Send the link to all your friends, recreational sports buddies, fitness centres, school administration, work colleagues, McDonalds FFS! Tell the guy behind the bar on Friday night to go to the website & sign the petition. Tell the guy at the Qwik-e-mart, give the homeless guy some flyers with... a $5 note, talk loudly in the library about it, make your trivia team's name www.savegcu.com for the next two weeks. Buy a freakin ticket to the game & come & sing with us. Jerrad Tyson hats are made. Bad 80's songs will be sung. I can't wait to get back to the beach this Sunday! UNITED WE STAND!

Why Red and Black an Whiote colours. In Sydney these are associated traditionally with spporting teams from north of the harbour.
And falcons or hawks are not exactly common birds in western Sydney and never have been.
