I said I want West(ern) in the name. Its the "Suburbs" part I was opposed to because it means nothing.

And FFS New York Red Bulls clearly tells you where this team is from. So your example was extremely poor.

You don't have to have an affiliation with an athletic club to call your self athletic.

And the oldest existing club in NSW and Australia is Balgownie Rangers, founded in 1883, which still competes in the Illawarra regional league.

Well you did specify red and yellow and did not specify what colour shirt/shorts and socks eg colour combo u meant for it so i found this one a while back someone did.

What you read a little on Wikipedia and therefore it must be true?

sydney rangers sounds aweful. just stick with rovers, wanderers, warriors, wolves or athletic

No to Rangers as it will open up a can of worms with the Celtic fans not wanting to support the team due to there hatred overseas the Protestant/catholic crap they rave on about

i dont understand the leagues obsession with red. whats up with that?

I lived the first 40 years in my life in the west of Sydney and being labelled west or western by people not from the area was considered a derogatory term. Now things may have changed but there is still a couple of generations of fans that will have this view.

In my opinion people not from the area should butt out of the discussion and let the people from the region decide what they like. Its just like all the peeps from the mainland who don't want a Tasmanian team to be Tasmania United. The people of any region are the only ones who understand the issues that go to choosing a suitable name for their team.

Three teams currently have red as one of their colours. Hardly an obsession.

Most of the world's biggest clubs wear red - Man Utd, Barca (sort of), Bayern, AC Milan, Arsenal, Liverpool.....Middlesbrough

Why Red and Black an Whiote colours. In Sydney these are associated traditionally with spporting teams from north of the harbour.

And falcons or hawks are not exactly common birds in western Sydney and never have been.
