Getting slapped with a big fine for saying something which probably happened?
Kyrgios is the only reason I watch tennis these days. Entertainment +.

Nice to see Krgy get booed on & off court in his subsequent loss to John Isner. Thanks for the pre-game tweet. Maybe the nickname Crocodile Tears Krgy might stick?

I'm surprised there isn't more said about 30 year old Wawrinka being linked to 19 year old Vekic in the first place.

New relationship and both over 18. Really? How does any of that come in when Kyrgious has just slandered not only a friend of his but also someone who had absolutely nothing to do with the match he was playing. Actually, various reports have them seeing each other as early as 2013, clearly before she was 18. Try to imagine your 18 year old daughter bringing home a 30 year old boyfriend.

I'm not sure Kokkinakis has much to be upset about, I'd be pretty proud of myself if I'd banged Donna Vekic and would be more than happy for everyone to know about it. As for Vekic, it was her decision to bang another guy when she's in a relationship, no sympathy if that information gets made public.

Tennis is very beige. These guys are providing some much needed colour. It was a spectacular sledge and he should be receiving more admiration for his comic timing.

Unless Wawrinka was being an absolute douchebag (and saying similar stuff), it was below the belt and Kyrgios should never have said it.
He needs to think a bit more before he acts. At the minute, it seems like he just says/does whatever appears in his head. There's no filter.
But I gather he has apologised, at least.
Generally speaking, I like the colour that Kyrgios brings to the game. We need more Happy Gilmore kind of characters.

He apologised publicly and also said he apologised privately to Stan.

For me, it would depend on the girl in question for it to be truly below the belt.
Some things (particularly in the context of certain relationships and histories) are off-limits.
But for other girls, it's not that big a deal.
But unless you know otherwise, you should assume it's going to be highly offensive.
One of the lowest sledges I ever heard was from Shane Warne and Darren Berry at first slip and wicketkeeper.
As Michael Slater (their friend!) was waiting for the bowler, they said "tick, "tock", "tick", "tock". This was an allusion to Slater having mental illness and they were implying that he was a time bomb waiting to go off.

You can also tell how sexist the world is that they are reacting to this as though he made a racial slur, as though the idea a woman might want to have sex with more than one man is just simply unfathomable. As I've gotten older, I've enjoyed watching the world become more and more outraged by these incidents.

Safe to say a few other players will use this to their advantage in the future as well.

People only like Hewitt now he's older and has matured a lot. When he was younger he was very unpopular, and there's plenty of people he never won back after that period.

It pains me to see a player I really like keep doing such douchey things. He needs to learn a lesson from this.... You don't make those kind of sledges in tennis. And you have made things pretty unpleasant for two young tennis players who don't deserve it.

I'm glad he called him out.

I'm glad he called him out. Oh please, she's an adult. It's fine legally and, although it's pushing it, it's fine morally. Especially if they really like each other. If they're in a relationship at least it's better than a 30 year old man banging a teenage girl and then never talking to her again. Once she's in her early-mid 20s, no eyebrows would be raised anyway.

My thoughts exactly. During Wimbledon, I said that it doesn't really matter that there's animosity towards Kyrgios from the media and the public because he has loads of friends on the tour. It seemed as if basically all the other players got on really well with him. This taints that. Still, he has apologised. Hopefully he moves on and everybody else gets over it too.

Helloworld1992 wrote:I dont think the nature of the sledge should be point of discussion here. (I'm a firm believer that whatever is said on the court remains on-court.) Rather its the repercussions that Kyrgios will face in the future whether that be from tennis authorities, media and other players.
This incident alone gives his opponents ammunition/extra motivation added to this is the extra pressure from the nitpicking Aussie media.
Every action has its consequences and Krgios is facing it as we speak.
Edited by helloworld1992: 14/8/2015 06:15:52 PM He manufactured the ammunition. It's his own fault for sledging in a sport where you're not supposed to sledge. And it was a shocker of a sledge. He has to wear it. Simple as that. To his credit, he's contrite. And he has the backing of Tennis Australia, who want to beat GB in the Davis Cup :d

Whilst i don't condone what Nick said given he's only 20 but i'm more disappointed what he's brother Christos said about Stan after the match and about poor Donna Vekic, he has zero empathy whatsoever.
Very ignorant!
It seems it runs in the family too, even his mother had to defend him too.
