Sounds awesome. We've only done the Fit Test and the first Cardio Circuit, but obviously will go through everything the more we go on. We're definately a "do it well or don't do it all" kind of couple, so we're pushing ourselves. All the exercises are new atm, so we're basically just trying to learn how to properly do them all atm so I assume when they're all second nature to us we'll be able to push further

I've never really done these sorts of workouts before. Pretty much all my exercising has been football-based. So it'll be interesting to see how it eventuates.

The mrs has developed a personal hatred with one of the chicks on the screen who does it with you - the Asian chick Tanya. Her goal is to look and perform better than her now

Thats the spirit. for both of you. your partner will be driven by seeing her regularly.
The workouts could be improved if I am honest but at the same time they are pretty decent.

It is also good to workout together, I never really got that luck. My partner prefers to train alone and always has. She is currently doing the George St Pierre Rushfit series of dvd's and likes it quite a lot after her first week.

Keep it up and let us know how you go. Keep track of measurements, weights and photos. If you push yourself you will see amazing differences.

We already feel better about ourselves (but are majorly sore, and sleeping like logs as we do it just before dinner).

Yeah the mrs wouldn't have the drive or energy to do a thing like this on her own - she needs someone there.

We've only done three days of it but I'm noticing that my lower-ab V (is it external obliques, from my early physio days?) are more pronounced already. I assume this is mostly due to the amount of sweating I've been doing during the exercises (it's been freaking hot the last couple of days), but whatever it is I'm feeling better about myself already.

EDIT: quesiton PJ - after you finished Insanity, how would you rate your fitness for a football game? I mean, how football-specific is the fitness level you get out of it? If you can decipher what I'm attempting to ask.

The reason you usually notice more definition is due to less water retention, Are you drinking ,more water or cutting back on carbs?

I can understand your question. I was pretty fit before I started my first round of P90x (virtually the same thing, the reason I bring this up is I saw my best results from the first round of these programs being P90x) After the 90 days I was significantly fitter.

Especially when it comes to fitness recovery. I can't talk in football terms as I haven't played since I had a knee operation 10 years ago. But I noticed that when I did hill sprints with a mate I went from being able to do 20 X 10 second hill sprints to over 30 X 10 second hill sprints with 30 second brake in between.

So you should notice you recover much quicker after short but intense sprints.
If you understand what I am saying.

That is pretty fucking Epic. I struggle with squats and have my entire life, it wasn't until about 6 months ago I learnt that its my flexibility. I could never squat more than 50kg (really shit considering I can leg press 200kg+) (front squat I could do over 105kg).

After working with a physio and sorting out stretching routines and trigger point therapy I have gone from 50kg to 100kg in 2 months.

So take note everyone that has trouble squatting that flexibility in the Hips and ankles is more important than strength.

Drinking the same amount of water as usual. And same amount of carbs as usual. Haven't changed my diet at all. The only thing I'll say is we aren't sweating when we're doing the programs - we're fxxxing dripping.

If I get similar results to what you're saying, it should be really good then. I've always had a really good base level of fitness for football, but it's usually after my mission runs up the field (Ljubo Milicevic style), running hard for a period of time, that I'm buggered and need a break to recover. If I can shorten my recovery time, that'll help my immensely.

I'll keep you up to date on how we're going with it. We've done Fit Test, Cardio Circuit, and Cardio Power&Resistance so far - and last night the CPR one nearly made me throw up (not sure if it was something I ate, how I was feeling, the exercises, or I was just pushing myself beyond my means)

Fair enough, with sweat you will reduce sodium levels which helps make you look leaner. Keep it up.

no that vomit feeling is usually just a good indication you are pushing yourself in a lot of cases.
Like I said you get out what you put in. and you sound like your pushing yourself pretty hard.

Good work. and you will notice a significant improvement in your recovery with football. and you will see a big difference next season if you do another round of insanity asylum before your season starts.

I'm really enjoying it. So is the mrs. After today we're finished our first week of it and we've pushed ourselves to the limit each day. We'll be really fit at the end of it all, we can tell.

88KG for the morning weigh in. Nothing in the belly. Just pure body weight. Taking today off though which sucks. Lack of sleep from last night will definitely affect todays performance so may as well use it as a day for recovery and hit it 13.67599999e times as hard for shoulders tomorrow.

What height did you say you were, 6'6 or something? 90kgs is nothing for someone that tall! I'm 6'2-6'3 and I always hover around triple digits - probably 97kg when playing semi pro football (ie in peak shape) and anywhere up to 101-102 since then

This just got me really interested, so did a quick google on some A-League characters of similar-esque height to compare weights.

Google MUST have their weight figures understated. Robbie Cornthwaite is 1.98m and weighs in at 90kg. Patrick Zwaanswijk is 1.90m and weighs in at 86kg. Ljubo Milicevic is 1.93 and weighs 88kg.

When I was in state league peak physical condition, I barely had a kilogram to lose. We didn't do body fat percentages and all that but I was lean as, not an inch of flab on me. And according to google, I should have been a similar weight to Zwaansvijk, which was 11kg lighter than I was.

Something isn't adding up here..

They are about right. I am 196cm and 86kg. I'm nowhere near their fitness condition but I imagine if I trained up to it I would be barely over 90kg after I put on the muscle needed.

That is awesome, keep it up.

The hardest thing I find is usually the 3rd week to the 5th week. You are starting to find it a bit easier and starting to get a bit bored. If you can push yourself during those weeks you will see massive results.

Because after the 5th week you know you only have 3 weeks left or so and can push yourself to the limit.

Just remember when it comes to body weight and height you have to take body shape into consideration. There are people out there that are tall with broad shoulders and those with narrower shoulders.
The players you mentioned are fairly light on in the top end. If you have slightly broader shoulders you will easily be 10kg heavier than them. But also around the same body fat %.

I'm exactly the same body shape as ljubo. I've met and compared myself to him countless times.

I remember about 1.5 years ago I got hospital-worthy sick for 2 weeks. Severe dehydration from a virus that prevented me from holding down any fluids at all. I looked gravely ill, and was. And the lowest I got weight wise was 94kg.

Then you are carrying more muscle mass than ljubo more than likely. Muscle doesn't take up as much room and weighs more than fat so I would put that as the reason that you weigh that much at that height compared to others.

Thanks all for your advice a few pages back about muscle soreness. I went and saw a physiotherapist a couple of days ago and he suggested pretty much the same thing you anonymous forumers did

Been on two runs since, resolving to stretch substantially before and after, also having a bath as soon as I get home. My legs feel much better, cheers guys.

Summer goal weight is 90kgs so I'm well on track.

This. I'm an ectomorph body frame to the tea. That and my weights are very incorrect. I will have an official weigh in at the blood bank on Sunday. This will be my official weight.

Body shape/style (endo, ecto, meso morph) play into the BMI thing.
BMI is complete bollocks and an athlete can be considered obese at certain weights.

So body styles makes a huge difference to height/weight ratios.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I was always overweight, or close to it, according to the BMI.

Still not sold that the weights given for those HAL players are correct, mostly because I've sized myself up against them and think I'm pretty similar, but anyway.

Insanity workouts still going strong PJ. We've now done a couple of exercises on repeat, but because they're different exercises each day we're not really realising we're doing the same thing as a few days beforehand. As in, we did the CPR one last night and didn't even remember we've done half of it before!

Diet is the most important factor though. Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise.

Yep. I'll never forget this borderline obese bird at the gym. After 12 months on the treadmill/bike she was about as fat as when she first started

Ritual miseducation is not a reason to laugh at someone.

Agreed. It's really hard work. It took me a whole year to understand what to do at the gym was wrong.

I don't think miseducation is a word btw ;)
