Apparently the cove got better things to do than to support women playing this beautiful game.
The guy who popped these flare today, hope they get copped $5500 per flare they set alight. Total Fire ban is there for a reason and the law is there to punish anyone who break it. Take a good look at Tassie, Victoria, Canberra, Engadine NSW. Fire is our worst enemy in this season.

Congrats to both WWSW and WSFC, exciting game. lots of quality play on the sideline. My first game i watch live, and for sure I will be back for some more.
Congrats Brisbane for the Premierhip.
Keep up the good work, Hoping we get to see World No.1 Matilda in the next Women World CUP!

Roar out for revenge against the Sky Blues

DateJanuary 19, 2013
Laine Clark

ALL but accused of being cheats by Sydney FC last season, Brisbane Roar will be out to exact revenge on the Sky Blues on Saturday in a bid to earn a more flattering moniker - champions.

The Roar head into their home semi-final against an Ellyse Perry-inspired Sydney FC full of confidence after an unbeaten seven-game streak helped them claim the minor premiership.

But a different emotion will be fuelling their quest to book a fifth straight grand final appearance - revenge. Roar defender Elise Kellond-Knight said Brisbane were still seething over Sydney FC coach Alen Stajcic's comments following last season's semi-final.

Brisbane scored a stoppage-time equaliser before emerging 4-3 penalty shoot-out winners as an irate Stajcic watched from the stands. Stajcic was given his marching orders after complaining about the Roar's equaliser, later accusing them of an ''immoral and unethical act of the highest order in football''.

Instead of passing the ball back to his team, the Sydney FC coach said the Roar re-started the game after a player-injury substitution in an attacking position before scoring the equaliser. Twelve months later, Stajcic's words still cut deep.

''There has never been any love lost between Sydney and Brisbane,'' Kellond-Knight said. ''What happened last season just adds more to the fire.''

Recovering from a knee reconstruction, Kellond-Knight watched last season's semi-final erupt from the stands. ''I saw their coach come off and he wasn't happy - he was a pretty big rage ball,'' she said. ''He will be out looking for revenge, definitely.''

The Roar cruised into the semis under new coach Belinda Wilson, despite being without injured Matildas Casey Dumont and Kim Carroll for the season.

In Sunday's semi-final in Perth, the Glory and Melbourne Victory will be vying for a maiden W-League final berth.

The Victory missed a chance to host the finals clash after last weekend's loss to lowly Newcastle, their first defeat in 10 games.

Last season's second-last outfit the Glory will be confident after welcoming back Lisa De Vanna from suspension alongside Golden Boot winner Katie Gill.

It was on penalties after a 1 all draw. Last penalty was retaken after the keeper moved off her line slightly early, and on the retaken penalty Victory got through.

ABC will be televising the game on Sunday and I don't think they'd alter the schedule.

Kerr on target in NWSL

21 April 2013-SBS

Sam Kerr opened her goalscoring account for Western New York Flash in the National Women's Soccer League, netting in a 1-1 draw against Washington Spirit.

Kerr put her side ahead with five minutes remaining at the Maryland Soccer Complex Stadium, getting on the end of an Abby Wambach header, but Diana Matheson converted a penalty just two minutes later to make it 1-1.

The result gave Kerr's side its first point of the season after starting with a 1-0 defeat to Sky Blue FC, while Washington sits second after its second draw in two games.

Kerr is joined by fellow Aussies Caitlin Foord, Lisa De Vanna (both Sky Blue FC) and Kyah Simon (Boston Breakers) in the newly-formed league.

Dear Westfield W-League...

Thursday, 14 February 2013 10:41 AM

Dear Westfield W-League,
My, haven’t you grown? You’re now five and you’ve really just blossomed.

It is admirable the way you have helped the game develop. You have created a path for us all to keep improving and discovering our abilities as footballers, as humans. You’ve allowed young girls to connect in ways like never before, there now lies a clear vision to reach the top. For any aspiring young girl to represent Australia, you are the integral stepping stone.

Looking back to your first season, you were so new to the world. There were sceptics amongst us, as to how you would mature through the earlier years.

Of course, without the support from all officials, volunteers, players, there would be no reason for you to exist. We must continue working together so the ground we’ve broken becomes our foundation to build. We must all continue to grow, strengthen and be that vessel for football to reach its full potential in this nation.

From an athlete’s perspective you’ve assisted in changing the face of women’s football in Australia, providing the opportunity for players to develop and prove themselves, in the eyes of the national team selectors.

You’ve provided the opportunity for our Aussie contingent to connect with the world. There is an international experience within every club, increasing international interest, further ensuring a strong player base for the national side for years to come.

You have evolved in to a serious, meaningful and senior domestic league that is now watched by an audience of a million people each season on the ABC.

Your most recent season saw six teams in the final rounds in contention for the remaining four places, highlighting that after five years of competition, there are no easy games.

You are now reaching great heights. We are in the top 10 ranked nations in the world, no. 3 in Asia, home to 55 per cent of the world’s population exist, not to mention Japan, the current world champions. Quite remarkable when you think about it like that, isn’t it?

Because of you existing we’ve identified players who would have never been discovered if it weren’t for the platform you provide. The international stars you’ve lured can only assist the games development. Australia is a unique country and football is on a very unique path.

Female participation now accounts for one in five of all participants under the FFA banner.

So my, haven’t we still got some growing to do. Maybe a full round of home and away is a good start...

Sal x

A bright future for Australian women's football

Friday, 1 February 2013 2:20 PM

The growth potential of women’s football in Australia was the central topic when officials from AFC and UEFA met with an FFA delegation in Sydney this week.

Newly nominated FIFA Executive Committee candidate and AFC Vice President Moya Dodd, led an FFA delegation along with members of the AFC including Head of Development Kaita Sugihara, senior UEFA officials (Marketing and Strategy) and key national stakeholders in a conference on the growth potential of women’s football in Australia.

Australia is ranked 9th in the world for women’s football, have over 100,000 registered female participants and has just finished another hugely successful Westfield W-League season.

Women’s football is seen as a key driver in the overall growth of the game in this country. Some obvious yet crucial ingredients in the growth of the women’s game include Australia’s 50 per cent female population – a largely untapped market in Australian sport, a female Prime Minister and Sports Minister who have women’s sport firmly on the national agenda, a prominent broadcaster and five years of serious investment in the Westfield W-League.

Dodd, a former Matildas Vice-captain and now FFA Director, has seen the game already take massive strides in Australia and sees great potential in the women’s game in this country.

“Australia has worked hard on women’s football, with a fantastic blue-chip sponsor, strong national team, free-to-air television coverage and thriving domestic league,” Dodd said.

“With a joint effort by FFA and the AFC, and expertise from UEFA, there is a strong belief that Australia can provide a best practise model, which can lead the way in the development of Women’s Football in Asia.

“We have made great progress in five seasons of the Westfield W-League to date, we're now operationally strong and technically improving rapidly as we saw in last month’s spectacular finals series.

“In the next five years our aim is to unlock some of the dormant fan and commercial potential of elite women’s football in Australia. Our challenge is to be a world leader in women’s football by being among the first to operate a genuinely professional league for players and coaches.”

I usually get to a couple of games each season. I really hope the FFA get behind It and market the comp, I don't see any reason why the W-League can't perform similarly to the Netball and get 2-3k or more to each game.

German captain set to play in W-League

Friday, 12 July 2013 3:18 PM

Two time World Cup winner and current German captain Nadine Angerer has announced she will play in the Westfield W-League for the 2013/14 season.

The goalkeeper, who is currently leading Germany in the UEFA Women's Championship, declared via Twitter she would play in the upcoming season before relocating to the US for their National Women's Soccer League season.

Angerer did not reveal which club she had signed for, with the official unveiling set to take place next week. However, with Angerer playing a season with Brisbane Roar's Tameka Butt, at FFC Frankfurt, the 2012/13 Premiers appear the likely destination.

"Hello everyone, from September I will play for one season in Australia. For which club I will announce next week,” she said.

The 34-year-old will become the second German and World Cup winner to play for a Westfield W-League team, with compatriot Ariane Hingst having represented Newcastle Jets and Canberra United. Hingst has not yet confirmed whether she will be returning to Australia for another season.

The news is a massive coup for the Westfield W-League, as German players have traditionally been reluctant to play outside of their domestic league, the Frauen Bundesliga. Angerer joining the growing list of imports set to play in the upcoming eight team competition.

German public television broadcaster's 'sexist' women's soccer ad angers fans

From: AFP July 13, 2013

GERMAN public broadcaster ZDF has fallen offside with soccer fans over a controversial television advertisement to promote matches involving the national women's team at the European Championships in Sweden.

In the 22-second ad to promote Euro 2013, a female soccer player is seen juggling a dirty football with her feet before chipping it into a washing machine, which is set on "leather" mode.

Favourites Germany are bidding to win their sixth straight European title and have won seven of the 10 finals since the tournament was first held in 1984.

Fans in soccer-mad Germany have taken to Twitter to brand the advert "sexist and totally embarrassing", with one user assessing: "ZDF have scored an own goal with this Euro ad!".

Watch the controversial advertisement here.

ZDF's editor Peter Frey defended the advert, by saying: "Advertising is made to be noticed and to generate interest, so this advert was successful."

While ZDF can also point to their commitment to the women's game, having shown matches live for a number of years, the advert has not impressed Silvia Neid's side.

Midfielder Fatmire Bajramaj, who was voted world player of the year in 2010, said it had not gone down well within the German squad.

"The advert was not a good idea," said the 25-year-old.

"You'd like the advert to have something to do with women's football, not with a washing machine.

"They should change things for the next advert."

Germany were held to a goalless draw by the Netherlands on Thursday. The tournament started on Wednesday, with the final to be held on July 28 in Stockholm.

Brisbane nabs star keeper
0 Comments
6 September 2013-SBS

Brisbane Roar has made the most significant signing in the short history of the W-League with Europe’s best female footballer Nadine Angerer committing to the club for 2013-2014.

Germany goalkeeper Angerer, who won the inaugural UEFA Female European Player of the Year award in Switzerland, will arrive in Australia this month after a remarkable year of football.

Angerer captained her country to victory at the recent European Championships – her fifth triumph in the competition – also winning player of the tournament after saving two of Norway’s spot-kicks in the final’s penalty shootout.

Angerer has played more than 120 times for her country, played in two FIFA World Cups and won the best goalkeeper award in 2007 and collected three Olympic bronze medals.

Brisbane Roar coach Belinda Wilson was excited to have a player of Angerer’s pedigree playing in the ever-growing Australian competition.

“The signing of Nadine is not only huge for our club, but a significant step forward for women’s football in Australia,” Wilson said.

“Nadine has a proven track record of success both domestically and with her country and I look forward to seeing the experience and work ethic she will bring to the Brisbane Roar team.”

The 34-year-old goalkeeper said she was looking forward to the challenges in Australia both on and off the pitch.

She also emphasised her hunger for success with the two-time W-League premier and champion.

"After many successful years in the Bundesliga and in Sweden I want to tackle a new challenge in Brisbane," Angerer said.

"I've decided to switch because I even want to get to know a whole new continent, a new league, a new country and I am excited to wear the Brisbane jersey.

“I want to help the team win the championship.”

Angerer’s most recent club was Frankfurt, where she played alongside Roar foundation player Tameka Butt.
