I don't follow our youth sides that much but is there any chance of Chris Ikonomidis going to the under 20 world cup. He hasn't been in a squad as far as I can tell but he seems to be doing well at youth level helping Atalanta to win group B of Campionato Nazionale Primavera (also an under 20 comp) over the two Milan teams now going into the championship round. I think he plays pretty often as well

Chris Ikonomidis is born in 1995, and it seems likely he'll miss out on a place in the squad for this coming U20 World Cup. However, as he will be eligible for the following U20 World Cup, hopefully he'll get the call up then and won't have joined Greece. I agree that he's a gun and should merit a place in this squad (bare minimum), but at least he'll be eligible for the next one, so hopefully he gets picked eventually. I guess the thing is we actually have an abundance of talented midfielders, which isn't a bad problem to have.

Soo many Young Aussie boys featuring in the 'Under 21 Developmental league' in the higher tier UK leagues. We knew that'd be an almost revolutionary thing, when introduced not too long ago, given just how many of our boys in the UK are in that age range and in circumstances, at kinds of big clubs, where this level is where they'd play most regularly (Because Reserves can have a number of senior players, be scheduled less frequently or what not).
Seems to be working a treat - key Young Socceroos like Jamie McLaren and Tom King seeing football. Giancarlo Gallifuoco interests me, VoR he's a former Joey born 1994, surely he's a strong chance to make the squad, even as an emergency, despite our midfield depth? IIRC He was a taller, bigger, boy too and that was back when he was 16/17, so 'physically' he should be up to the task.

Whats happening with Cameron Edwards and Jarrod Kyle? They both came back to Australia and signed short term contracts with A League clubs but both have been let go. Simply a case of not good enough?

Any chance we will see a few youngsters given a run in the first team over the next few weeks as the season winds down?

Langerak should be starting against Dusseldorf tonight but Kruse is still 50,50 it seems. Imagine seeing 2 Aussies on the pitch at once.

Amini's suspended. Racked up too many yellows. Edited by playmaker11: 27/4/2013 10:22:46 PM
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Leckie's been pretty lively, creating a few issues on the counter with his speed. He had a great chance to score but scuffed his shot, just lacking that finishing touch at the moment.

Has he always taken corners? He's been putting in dangerous ones.

Wilkshire played a full game in a 3-1 win for Dynamo Moscow. That's a big worry about Kruse. Time for McDonald to be called up!

Very true and his club form has always been in good enough order for a call up but he never seems to crack it for Australia. I still feel he should be in the squad should Kruse miss out.

He also deosn't suit our formation, he's not an out and out striker, not quite a no 10, if we played a 442 or 3 at the back, then I would be willing to give him a go. I actually think a 352 / 361 as Neil as DM could work with what we have playerwise. But all in all, as an amc or striker, my oppinion is there are better players infront of him, with our 4231 formation.

2:0 BVB for most of the game until the 88min when Bodzek headed from a free kick from point blank past Langerak. Solid game from Langerak otherwise with a few good saves including a great take from a high cross in the 90th min and then a brilliant low save in the 91st ( this just happened while typing, amazing stuff). Kruse tried hard but lost the ball a lot or was fouled quickly. Ddorf woke up too late.2:1 BVB great game from Langerak.

Top save from Langers. Heart bleeds for Kruse, good player in a largely ineffective team. Hopefully they can stay up.

Yeah caught some of the end, thanks to you guys talking about it. Missed the last parts but overheard the commentators talking of the terrific save Langerak pulled off and how well he was doing generally, including 'good distribution for a goalkeeper' when he released Blatykovski (sp) and co for a late chance.
Langerak, with every appearance, albeit filling in, is more and more proving to be our leading young goalkeeper out there and challenging more and more as not only Schwarzer's successor, but as his #2, which is still an extremely competitive field, with Jones, Federici, Matt Ryan and others, also right up there.
And thanks you overseas based Aussie fans on here, like johnszasz, for your local perspective from your countries/regions. From watching games live over there or on local TV, to what the local newspapers and fans say. You rock! =d> \:d/

Edited by gloryperth: 28/4/2013 06:22:22 AM Having German Sky over here keeps me on top of all the Aussies in action. Amini I can find a bit on websites etc. Langerak would be number 2 for Australia now. He doesn't play so often but his recent performances prove that his training sessions have him match ready. Cahill scores 2 in Toronto http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-04-27-TOR-v-NY/highlights

I find it a little annoying that Fox will show every single EPL game and won't show the games of Aussies playing abroad.
