Aussie Centerbacks have been the new fad in Korean football though it is underestimating the type of work Centerbacks do in Korea. He is playing against quick and technically very good players that don't just rely physiciality. Therefore Wilkinson has had to be good at reading the play and understanding how to play it on the deck. His form warrants a call up considering who is getting picked for the National team in the same position. If it is good enough for the Korean national team it is definently good enough for the Australian. The way some people talk about other leagues and teams you would think the Socceroos are Spain and we are running the Bundesliga.

You just can't justify national selection based on a playing in a "technical" league like Korea, just because their players are speedy and have fancy skills and stuff. Not even the Korean NT picks defenders from its own league, it prefers its defenders from clubs like Al Shabab and Albirex Niigata. We're delving into serious levels of mediocrity raiding the Korean league for has been A league defenders to represent the national team, Wilkinson just isn't good enough period, he wasn't good while playing in the A league and playing in Korea isn't going to change that, no matter how zippy and speedy and skilly the players he plays against are. If you're going to ditch the captain at least make sure the guy who replaces him is worthy to don the jersey.

Yes you can. Of the most recent calls for the Korea National team 90 percent of those played in Korea, I can only think of two Korean defenders who play in Japan the 10 or so are in Korea. Whether you believe it or not their National team is better than ours. They also have more National team players playing in the domestic league. If an Australian player is a standout in a league like this and players in the same position play in leagues weaker than he deserves a call up. I could understand if you had a backline like Spain or Brazil who have players playing in Italy, England and Spain but I cannot understand it when you have players who are playing in the Middle East and China.

Because he isn't good enough. Just because you score team of the week in a crap league like Korea doesn't mean you're good enough to represent your country.

How do we know he isn't good enough to play for the Socceroos when he's never made a squad? He's a regular starter in a stronger league than what Ognenovski plays in, and until ~6 weeks ago Lucas didn't even have a club and still got picked ahead of Wilko.

Korea made the World Cup semi final with a squad that was 90% home based players. Should be good enough for us.

You forgot the asterisk on Korea's WC success:
*...and through controversial decisions made by a referee who would later be banned for match-fixing and sent to prison for drug-smuggling.

Hope he can get over it and the medicos help him well. I remember reading an article that mentioned that the medical team at AZ weren't sure what groin problem he was suffering from, along with there being a mention that OP isn't something that they see too often in Holland.

Excellent wrap up, however Dylan McGowan has been playing in defense, mostly at RB, but also at CB for Hearts.

And, from what I can gather, it seems like Irvine plays more as a CB than in midfield for Kilmarnock.

I always forget since Kehl hardly plays now (only 1 start this season) so Weindenfeller is pretty much Dortmunds captain on match-day and I wonder if this could have contributed to Langerak not getting the league game appearances between the last two CL games.

Also on McGowan I thought he was in a better position to get picked for the national team than Irvine. I figured they had a chance playing SPL week in week out but McGowan has played better and they play similar positions I think. McGowan can play RB, CB, CDM (RB mainly) and Irvine CB, CDM, CM (CM mainly) but could be wrong

He's been playing both, some games as a CB, some as a DM/CM (according to Kilmarnocks twitter anyway) :)

Only have watched one game live and he was CB. His most recent start was CM but a couple of the other games at CB according to the apps I use to follow which are not always 100%.

haven't seen anything specific about him but since he came in 5 games ago (because of injuries) they are equal 6th on form (with 2 other teams) picking up 8 points in 5 games while they picked up 6 in their first 6 games. he has also been playing longer when he does play. in the first two games he was a 74th and 53rd minute sub, then 90th, 45th and finally last game he played the full game. Now the half time sub possibly shows him playing badly but that was the one game the lost and they did worse after he went off on the scoreboard at least. In the lat game where he played the full 90 one of the injured players was back I think and he still got a full game.

So from what I can tell he is doing alright but the next few weeks might be interesting if the other midfielders come back from injury and if he can stay in the starting lineup

45th minute substitute could have been due to a minor knock or injury as well. Something that did not stop him playing the next game.

I wish there was a forum for bvb ii I haven't been able to find anything on him. I thought he was better than oar or leckie when he left so I suspect that within the next year or two he should be good enough to be a standout eredivisie player. Bvb first team is a huge ask on the other hand...

Well if he can get into the squad like Hoffmann did this year people will be calling for him at the Asian cup. Gundogan has a decent chance of leaving and Kehl is not really playing so if they turn him into a utility mid he might get close to the squad.

I really think Dortmund like Amini and they have plans for him. I reckon if he keeps working there he'll eventually crack the first team. He's still young. Also I think people here overestimate the importance of playing in the reserve team. Sometimes players over there will be training with the first team a lot and not playing in the reserves whilst another player will play every moment of reserves but never get a look into the first team. That's just how a lot of European teams work.

i have a gut feeling BVB are developing Amini more as a deep lying playmaker similar to the mould of a Gundogan that might suit his game more too given he's not the quickest on the field and he's short passing game is very good so he might be more suited in a deeper role.

To me this situation could be like how Culina was at Ajax in his younger days when he was playing for the reserves but couldn't crack through to the first team and eventually he had to leave for FC Twente and from there the rest is history so i hope Amini can go on to a similar path in the future, well he's hoping anyway.

If only Rogic choose a similar path like Amini... ](*,)

People forget amini is 20 and we want him for next world cup. If he breaks through at 22-23 we will be in awesome shape. Also I think because of Germany's population (compared to England) and that reserve teams are in the lower leagues the German 3rd division is not a bad place to be playing.

Re Amini; My view is that even if he doesn't crack the first eleven for Borussia Dortmund, his move there won't necessarily be a bad one, or a wrong one. The last game I saw him play was for the U20's against Holland, and I thought he was our best that day. He seemed to be developing his skills well. As long as he is training with the first XI and getting a few minutes for the reserves he will/should be improving.

It's his next club move which could be the vital one in terms of his career - if he moves to a decent league (Holland/Belgium/even Buli. 2) and gets consistent playing time I think he will start to reap the rewards
