A lot easier than rejecting a big nation but nice to see an dual national Aussie firmly stating he wants to play for us. Also with his injury I have been feeling that he shouldn't have been in that training session that he got injured. I don't know if it was a collision or a stress injury but I just feel he should have been with the first team or since he was not needed there he should have gone with the U22's (perhaps this happened before the camp started though).

Quote:
BVB Dortmund’s Mustafa Amini says no to Afghanistan

Afghan fans left dejected as BVB Dortmund’s Mustafa Amini says no to Afghanistan according to AFF (Afghanistan Football Federation). The 20 years old Australian-Afghan was picked in the 43 players squad for AFC Challenge Cup preparations camp in Qatar.

“I only want to play for Australia if I get the chance” Amini

According to the AFF, Mustafa Amini is unlikely to play for Afghanistan after he declared his interest in playing for Australia. The 20 years old midfielder, who was born to an Afghan father and Nicaraguan mother in Australia, was picked by Afghanistan in the 43 players squad for camp in Qatar aimed 2014 AFC Challenge Cup preparation.

As the players were announced, some exciting new players playing abroad, including Mustafa Amini, who plays for Borussia Dortmund II, excited the fans. Afghanistan had picked Amini a few weeks ago hoping the Australian-Afghan might opt to play for them. However, that option now looks to be out of the window.

An AFF statement read that the Dortmund midfielder denied Afghanistan national football team coach Yousuf Kargar’s statement (in Dari-Persian, translated as below) saying Amini to attend Afghanistan’s training camps.

“Mustafa Amini has completely denied Mr Kargar’s statement and said that” “I only want to play for Australia if I get the chance” read an AFF statement.

Who is Mustafa Amini?

Mustafa Amini was born in Sydney, Australia to an Afghan father and an Australian (Nicaraguan) mother. He played for the Central Coast Mariners in A-League in 2011 before joining the former German champions, Borussia Dortmund.

“Upon arrival the then 19-year-old met up with Mitch Langerak who tempted him with stories about BVB over dinner one night. Amini had already taken part in a trial in the summer of 2011 and shown the officials his talents which led to him signing a contract until 2015. He was then loaned back to his Australian team for a season before permanently joining the Black Yellows for the 2012-13 season.” Says a description on the BVB website.

Currently, the 20 years old Amini plays for Dortmund II in the German 3rd League to broom his talents for the future.

“Technically gifted midfielder: “We will give him the time and the patience that a young player requires.” said Dortmund’s Sporting director Michael Zorc in a BVB statement.

Can he be persuaded?

Mustafa Amini has not played for Australia for a long while now since he played for their junior teams. In the case of his current club Borussia Dortmund’s first eleven, he hasn’t put on the yellow-black stripped jersey this season yet.

Moreover, Australian national football team has plenty of classy players, particularly in midfield, that are ahead of Mustafa Amini in the pecking order. Most of these players play the first team football across the world’s major leagues such as the EPL (English Premier League), German Bundesliga, Eredivisie (Netherlands) etc and not to forget the Australian league itself.

Judging by the current scenario, Amini has a very little chance of playing for Australia in now. However, being only 20 years old, he has a good chance of representing the Socceroos in the future considering he plays well and for the first team in a major league.

Having said that, Amini can always switch back to Australia, if he wishes, in case of Afghanistan not playing at the highest levels and comply with the FIFA rules.

If he does decide to play for Afghanistan, Amini will cherish the chance for the rest of his life because he will be loved and admired as a national hero by the fanatic Afghan football fans. In contrast to this option, he would be just another Socceroo for Australia.

Practically, it would be sensible too. Amini would be joining the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) champions (unbeaten by the way) and 2013 Fifa Fair Play Award winners. Afghanistan has a good chance of qualifying for AFC Asia Cup Australia 2015. This would be ideal for Amini as he would, mostly, play regular football which is vital if he is to ever play for Dortmund’s first eleven.

AFF and Mustafa Amini have to hold face to face talks and discuss all the options thoroughly as it would be for the benefit of both parties. Otherwise, Afghanistan is already blessed with plenty of talented players that will do just as good a job, if not better, for their country as Amini.

From the Dortmund midfielder’s point of view, to be fair he has every right to say no to his father’s country of birth in order to try and achieve his ambitions in a quest of playing in a world cup etc. He genuinely sees this as a better option and some Afghans might be, rightly, disappointed not to see his talents on the field for Afghanistan, but many would respect his decision. He might even reconsider Afghanistan. You just never know what the future holds.

Afghanistan 43 men squad for camp in Qatar: Mansur Faqiryar (GK), Hamidullah Yousefzai, Jalaludin Shariathyar, Harun Fakhrudin, Faisal Sakhizada, Ali Ahmad Noor Muhammad, Muqadar Qazizada, Mustafa Hadid, Muhammad Yousef Masriqi, Arash Hatifi, Wadeedullah Nadim, Mustafa Azadzoy, Hameedullah Nisar Ahmad, Sanjar Ahmadi, Bilal Arzo, Amarudin, Farzad Ataee, Muhammad Maruf Jamhuri, Hashmatullah Barakzai, Mujtaba Faiz, Zainudin, Yousef Baharastani, Mustafa Amini, Mustafa Zazai, Mustaq Yaqubi, Faisal Shaesta, Hasan Amin, Zamir Daudi, Milad Salim, Kanishka Tahir, Zuhib Khan Muhammadi, Jani, Mustafa Rezaee, Shareef Muhammad, Masud Hashemi, Yousef Sherzai, Baktash Nekzai, and Iqbal Habibzai.

Brugge's other keeper has extended his contract, very good for Ryan

Quote:
Club Brugge will be even longer continue Vladan Kujovic. The second goalkeeper Monday extended his contract with Blue-Black to 2015. That the club itself reported on its website.

Kujovic went to Club Brugge in 2011 and was originally brought in as the second goalkeeper. Great news. Ryan is killing it. At 21 years of age he's played more senior games of football than most of our other older Socceroos.

I don't know if it was a collision or a stress injury but I just feel he should have been with the first team or since he was not needed there he should have gone with the U22's (perhaps this happened before the camp started though).

Totally missed Valeri signing and playing for Ternana last week. Hopefully he can go injury free and play well for the rest of the season

Was good in open play but made a couple of mistakes during set pieces and long throw ins that allowed the ball to squeeze past him (he wasn't alone though and the weather didn't help). Overall a solid enough debut and should improve with more game time and better understanding with team mates. Dundee United's coach might want to work on his defensive shape a bit though.

Good to see Valeri getting back into it after all this time. Subbed on overnight, 63'. Should be making starts soon.

Oar and Sarota play Ajax tonight. They badly need a result after a bad run of form.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Right wing forward in a 4-3-3. Kruse's position. Interesting leading up to World Cup.
