Cameron Burgess starting against Motherwell. Very interesting.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Burgess has been with Fulham some time now, in their youth set up and playing with the U20s a bit too. Hopefully his promotion in pre-season actually means something. Though he's represented Scotland at youth level, I'm sure the young defender would be open to represent his country of upbringing, Australia, should we come calling? Born 1995, he's eligible for the coming Young Socceroos generation too! And, second apillay12's question! Edited by GloryPerth: 12/7/2014 11:39:46 PM

Fulham have made a few buys in defence but hopefully he can add a few Championship minutes to a good run in the U-21's this year.

Burgess also started against Rangers two days previous. On the Motherwell game, Magath said: "We also have high hopes for Cameron Burgess and the other boys from the Academy. Cameron played really well alongside Shaun, and not only did he score a goal, he also defended really well." All good signs

According to Fulham's official site he was at Celtic and Aberdeen youth academies before moving to Australia and was back in England by he was 18. Has played for Scotlands U19s but I suppose their matches are a lot more convenient that ours

Other friendly news. Sainsbury came on at half time in a 1-1 draw (0-0 in Sainsbury's half). Strangely came on for a defensive midfielder. I wonder if his team is looking at 3 at the back or they moved one of the defenders to midfield. Luongo came on in about the 35th minute and scored for Swindon. Coach on Luongo Quote:On Massimo Luongo... He looks like he hasn't been away. He came on for the last ten minutes of the first half and played at centre half then in the second half he played in midfield.
http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/news/article/cooperonfriendlywin-1745887.aspx#TAzFxoTIswIzOLjI.99 Cooper and Ascroft came on in VVV-Venlo's 1-0 win. The goal came after they were on Katsetis seems to have come at half time for Breda. Scored the 5th in a 7-0 win. Vidosic scored a Pen in a 2-1 comeback for Sion vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Sarota came on in the 60th minute and Zullo didn't play in a 5-0 win Leckie played the first half in a 2-2 draw wit Viktoria Plzen Kruse Missed Leverkusen's game but was back training with the team for the first time. Quote:Kruse returns to training Back in training with the Werkself: Robbie Kruse
Welcome back, Robbie! Robbie Kruse trained with his team-mates on Friday for the first time in six months after tearing a cruciate ligament. The 25-year-old Australian completed the warm-up routine and parts of the passing and game drills during the morning training session.
“We have organised a reduced training programme for him but he is well on the way to returning to full training soon,” said assistant coach Daniel Niedzkowski after the morning session on Friday: “I’m very very pleased for him. It’s something really special to be able to train with the rest of the squad.”

Kruse back in training with Leverkusen Sunday, 13 July 2014 - Staff writer Comments Socceroo winger Robbie Kruse has returned to training with Bayer Leverkusen nearly six months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during training. He was able to complete the warm-up routine and parts of the passing and game drills during his first competitive session since January. The injury ruled the 25-year-old out of Australia's World Cup campaign in Brazil but his club are confident he is close to returning to full training ahead of the start of the Bundesliga season next month. “We have organised a reduced training programme for him but he is well on the way to returning to full training soon,” assistant coach Daniel Niedzkowski was quoted as saying on Bayer Leverkusen's website. “I’m very very pleased for him. It’s something really special to be able to train with the rest of the squad.” One of the Socceroos' most consistent performers in recent years and a fan favourite at Leverkusen, Kruse's return is a welcome sight ahead of January's Asian Cup. The Socceroos' impressive showing in Brazil augers well for a successful Asian Cup campaign and a fit and firing Kruse will be an integral part of Ange Postecoglou's rejuvenated squad. http://www.socceroos.com.au/article/kruse-back-in-training-with-leverkusen/9mjsjr2qey8m1ha3uqqj91g0d

I wish the FFA would stop feeding us this. I know that you are saying that 0 points from 9 is a failure - but I suspect (though I wished otherwise) we were always going to get the same result. It's a good narrative as long as it is not overplayed. However, it will quickly fall flat though if the results don't quickly follow in the upcoming friendlies and the Asian Cup.

I'm all for positive outlook, but even in comparison to other nations that didn't have high hopes we got average results at very best. With the amount of money and resources available the last few years, we shouldn't be just going for positive vibes. But in regards to your article post, maybe Kruse can help change that.

Are people really still negative about our performance in brazil? this was the first time we have competed playing proactive football. Usa was very reactive and to some degree so was costa rica. In 2006 we were significantly more reactive. Reactive teams tend to get results early in competitions but rarely go very deep into the tournament. Playing proactively means you are going through the pain to eventually be a contender.
Of the first 6 goals 5 were due to organizational lapses. If our team had a bunch more games between them together we probably draw 1-1 with chile and win 2-0 against the dutch. Individual mistakes were at play too, but it would have taken exceptional individual skills to (unnecessarily) make up for dreadful organization
Ange and gumbao have taken over 3 (four including NT) teams between them and taught them posession football. Both teams had the following problems early
1. lots of passing not enough goals (cahill mitigated this somewhat). Over time the handling speed gets better and combinations form in the attacking 3rd meaning more chances came 2. lots of goals conceded due to organizational lapses including a. the offside trap being disorganized b. lack of players tracking back and pressing in front of the last line c. turnover in playing out from the back d. lack of communication in a player going back to cover when a defender comes forward (there should always be two players back behind) e. lines not straight 3. Fading in the last 20 minutes of a game (all our 3 games we were week in the last 20 minutes, probably even more so since cahill and bresc typically were off then)
In our experience all of these problems get fixed after enough games together even if some personell changes along the way and the team dominates.
People should put this world cup into context of how many games this team has played together under ange.

Katsetis is not getting a contract. Even though he has played quite well they are more focused of finding players in other positions. I think I mentioned this before but they are really short in defense but to be honest I still thought they would be get a few players all over the pitch. If the reports are true hopefully some other clubs may have taken notice of this trial and look at him and he is still at a good club even if it is on a youth contract. Quote:NAC Breda offers Paul Katsetis no contract. The 18-year-old Australian midfielder has trained more than a week with the Brabant and made a reasonable impression, but gives the club to have other priorities. "Paul is a good player, but strengthening the selection position is not a priority "says technical director Graeme Rutjes against BN De Stem . Katsetis played in the past for AEK Athens and Catania, though he is still waiting for his professional debut. NAC hopes center defender Aleksandar Damcevski or capture . Both sides have been discussing a collaboration. The 21-year-old Macedonian this month was a week on trial at the Pearl of the South . Last season played for Chernomorets Burgas in Bulgaria Damcevski. http://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/258803/nac-hoopt-damcevski-te-binden-katsetis-kan-gaan/Edited by moofa: 14/7/2014 07:15:50 AM

Ikonomidis got 27 minutes in Lazio's first friendly playing from half time to the 72nd minute. Can't tell how he played with no detailed match reports but 4 goals were scored when he was on (he didn't score). This was their most successful spell. the game ended 10 - 0
