Thanks for the video! Brillante comes on and is involved instantly as a number 10, he replaced Aquilani, after all. Involved in the buildup for the winning goal, he takes the first pass in this gif, and is there at the goal line ready to poke home a deflection: He was a DM after a bunch of subs, but very mobile, at times the furthest back outfielder covering the CB's, and at times the furthest forward finding a run on the wings, showing a lot of intelligence and faith from his manager. I think this was him striking this rebounded corner: Hope we see much more of him in purple this season. Edited by paladisious: 17/8/2014 02:20:39 PM

Didn't watch the game but looking at reports and the forums it seems Pocognoli played pretty well. Some on the West Brom forums brought up Davidson suggesting it may be hard for him to break in and could be used as a more defensive winger, a role which I think he will be decent at. It is just the start of the season but I feel if he had ll of that contract shit sorted to begin with we would have a much better idea where he stands and he would have had a much better chance of starting this game.

RedKat wrote:So West Brom have a 38 game season (ignoring cup commitments). Davidson is one of two left backs in the squad and can also play CB or even as suggested a LWB. People thinking he wont get his shot are jumping the gun.
Edited by RedKat: 17/8/2014 07:39:56 PM Asian Cup works against him. May get cup appearances but don't see him being given a shot to start until after he gets back.

If Davidson is not fit and still on the bench this means one of two things. Either they have no depth (which would seem to be a fair assessment), or they rate him highly enough. I must say all the noise from Brom about him has been pretty positive. Not to mention that they went into a contract battle for him and stuck with it instead of just throwing him back, so they must see him as a future starter, even if he doesn't end up there. I think they also saw a young up and comer who was practically free and could earn them a transfer down the line if it works out, if it doesn't then the only cost was wages.

Currently watching AZ Alkmaar vs Ajax.
For our perspective Eli Babalj is not even on the bench, very concerning it seems he's not up to there standards. Let alone European standard.
I never rated him anyway...time for him to come back home?

Edited by Barca4life: 17/8/2014 08:54:19 PM Just give him the season I guess. Was ruined by injury last season, think he's scored a few goals for the reserve side this season so hopefully he stays fit, bangs a few in and gets a chance.

The thing is he's now 22 turning 23? and he should be playing first team football not reserve team football at that age and he should be at least be on the bench for them if he's good enough, ok early days but it doesn't look good, sadly. RE-EDIT: Don't know maybe they can loan the kid out to another Eredivisie club or a second club? seen the other guys there who are out of favour are all being loaned out, so maybe they can do the same thing with Babalj if it benefits he's development. Vidosic starting against Basel
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Basel lead 1 -0 after 20min Vidosic just had a decent headed of a lone range set piece , from behind the back post got the header into the turf but it bounced sharply over the crossbar at the far post, keeper beaten..

From the looks of the stream I'm watching it doesn't seem as though Sarota is starting. Can't find the team news anywhere

Hmmm pretty much on twitter that he's simply been replaced. No suggestion of injury and he hasn't played well the last two games.

Giannou seems back and ready for the start of the season starting a friendly and playing 65 minutes. It was a disappointing 1-1 draw. http://www.sport-fm.gr/article/emeine-me-tis-eukairies/781763Mrcela also got his first start. He played the full 90 as they lost 3-2, all 3 of the oppositions goals came in a 6 minute spell from the 51st to the 57th minute. Don't know what the keeper was doing for the second. The third it seems Mrcela is the one jockeying the opposition, giving him a little too much room and he is unable to block the shot. Sainsbury has had a good start to this season and was unfortunate with injury on the back end of the season before that. Davidson had a decent season last year. There are a few players who have made a good career for themselves in Holland. Of most recent memory, Culina, Emerton & Holman. If that is the benchmark, then plenty have failed to make the same impact thus far. Think Rukavitsya, Holland, Babalj, Zullo, Sarota et al.

To be fair Sarota is highly rated at Utrecht and was a consistent starter before he ACL injury. now he is on the comeback and still managing consistent squad selection, I’d say he has proven he is successful at this level (he's just had rotten luck in the past 12 months) Edited by toffee's_or_roar: 19/8/2014 01:16:30 PM
